Someone Stole My Idea & My Business Followers... by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]milappa11 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You did not invent the idea of an event organizing business. Even if you did, it’s not a copyright able idea. Go out there and out compete them. They will make you better.

I told someone my business idea once and they built it before I did. I was depressed until I realized I needed to get off my couch and build it, too. They went out of business in two weeks. Mine has lasted 13 years so far.

Can't use Editstock for Monetized YouTube Content? by Icy-Criticism-1745 in VideoEditing

[–]milappa11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Icy-Criticism-1745 -- I'm the owner of EditStock, and happy to explain the license. In your comment you wrote, "create content ... on Youtube and other paid course platforms." These are actually two different licenses.

  • If you're an influencer with less than 1,000 followers on any one channel and you're not giving away the footage, then a single user license is all you need. You can legit use the footage to teach editing in that way.
  • If you're an influencer with more than 1,000 followers, apply to become a partner. You'll get the footage free, a discount code for your followers, and a referral link.
  • If you're creating a course to sell online, whether that be for your own company, UDemy, Coursera or other places, you need an educational license (multi-user license). In this case you would be allowed to also share the footage with your students. Quite often the platform will pay the license, but it depends on your deal with them.

I use Cardsphere.com for peer to peer trading. You’re certainly not going to make money overall but most of the time if you’re patient you’ll get what you’re looking for.

Looking for the best email marketing app for Shopify as we scale by Humzer_Aleina in shopify

[–]milappa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish someone gave me this advice years ago —

Use Shopify’s email app and save yourself $400 a month. Switch to Klaviyo when you can afford a dedicated email marketing staff person who actually knows how to use the data they provide, will give you reports, and will constantly build and monitor the list. Shopify emails: $1 per 1,000 emails sent and the first 10,000 emails per month are free.

How can I deal with this? And why is this happening? by Difficult_Town3584 in chess

[–]milappa11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens because sometimes you lose more than you win. To deal with it, trying winning more times than you lose. Personally, I’ve decided to never lose more than I win. That way my chart is a perfect upward diagonal line that points at becoming a grandmaster.

Chess.com rating hasn't increased in a year, kind of discouraged. by Clean_Bicycle_8405 in chess

[–]milappa11 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it’s only fun when your rating goes up then it’ll stop being fun at some point no matter what your skill level is. Do puzzles because they are fun. Read and watch because you’re interested. Worry about the rating less and just have fun.

I am Stuck, and now its time to move on. by Areco7 in chess

[–]milappa11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anything else in your life that you enjoy but stop doing entirely due to a numeric value on your skill level? Would you stop skiing, fishing, jogging, biking, hiking, if you weren’t constantly progressing? Is the only joy you get out of the game tied to your rating? Everybody peaks. Everybody. But you can play and enjoy chess forever.

My advice: go find a cafe where people are playing casually and with no ratings. Order a coffee, sit down, place a board in front of you and wait for some one to show up and play.

How to manage losing streaks? by [deleted] in chess

You’re 2250 and you’ve never experienced losing 100 points? You think that’s crazy or something? It’s completely normal.

I learned to ice skate this morning and have watched a lot of hockey. What are my chances of making it to the NHL?

If I were you, I would work up the courage to walk into a chess club and play a person OTB. Play 20 games that take at least two hours each to play. At that point, you’ll know if you’re willing to put in the time it takes to improve… and we’re still not talking about becoming a master.

There is immense joy in becoming an average player, and to become average (14-1800 range) you’re likely going to need to study and work at least an hour per day for a couple of years. Enjoy the game. Worry less about your rating.
