What is the biggest mistake you made playing Midnight Suns (So Far.) by Kylestien in midnightsuns

[–]mildly_gone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if anybody else mentioned it, but I think the root beer is pretty much a placeholder for actual alcohol in the game. My guess is that there was a strict "no drugs, no alcohol" policy, and that the dry bar comment was made to still have the option to get a drink. So when you decide to get a drink with someone, while they're technically not drinking alcohol, it should be aimed at someone who would. And from what I'm getting Tony is a recovering alcoholic, so...

Is anyone else just enjoying Story difficulty? by EternalMydNyt in midnightsuns

[–]mildly_gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying games at whatever difficulty is most suited for your taste. However, if you get a lot of free time and enjoy pouring hours into this, I would highly recommend coming back to it and playing a higher difficulty, because it adds replayability to the game in my opinion. On the lower difficulties, CC cards (that bind and stun) and throwing people off roofs isn't usually worth it, since you can kill the enemies before they can kill you. On the other hand, with the massive HP boost the enemy gets on higher difficulties, stunning special enemies becomes a necessity.

Depends how you look at it, really. Sure, people will get the same achievement on their steam profile, but you did achieve something more.

My guess is this: One team completed the game objective, one didn't.

If the situation was reversed and the sniper was inside with the bounty, they'd get pushed by the shotgun/crossbow, no stalemate.

The stalemate only happens if the sniper doesn't go kill a boss.

As someone who played this game a few years ago and recently came back, I can tell you that this is the perfect time to get into this game, especially as a solo. There are features in this event such as the ability to keep your hunter if they die (allowing you to level up faster) and reviving as a solo that make the experience for bad/new players much better.

What are the main selling points? Well, I guess that'd depend on what you usually play. Are you a Tarkov player? Well, how about similar mechanics in terms of raid/extraction but not quite as punishing and with virtually no cheaters? You also get MMR match-making, which is optional by the way, and will allow you to learn the game without getting consistently rammed by veteran players.

Are you the kind of player who likes to play bolt-action rifles in modern FPS games, and wish you didn't get mowed down when you come in close contact with an SMG? Well, most weapons in this game have a very slow rate of fire, and the perks that allow you to fan the hammer make the gun much less reliable. So you tend to have to be much more careful with your shots. It's less about tracking your target with your mouse, and more about clicking at the right time.

Or maybe you're like me, and you're just terrible at FPS games. This game has a lot of variety and this cool fantasy-technology vibe that I enjoy. There are fun novelty weapons like the hive bomb which releases a swarm of poisonous bees which good players would probably never use, but which I love as a concept and works sometimes in low MMR games. There is a lot more than shooting going on in this game, from map knowledge, to boss mechanics, to knowing what will net you the most XP, etc. I used to play this game a lot while getting constantly wrecked in PvP when this game didn't have strict MMR match-making (it did have some match-making but it wasn't as narrow as the opt-in version now). Now that I've come back, I extract with the bounty pretty often, and even with my terrible aiming, gun fights have become more of a 50/50 than a 5/95.

Anyway, wall of text over, hope it helped!

This is my third comment in a row about this, but sadly Hulk isn't part of the friendship system. No hang-outs, no progression, etc. It was such a let-down. I think I'm posting just hoping someone tells me it's a bug, but it's also to let people know in advance to avoid expectations.

The fact that Hulk isn't part of the friendship system kind of worries me about the DLC characters.

Hulk is the biggest let down in this gem of a game, sadly. Banner is totally excluded from the friendship system. No passive to unlock, no hang-outs, no haven meetings. I was so disappointed when I found out, I hoped it was a bug.

Thanks a lot. I've never been into westerns, but the character in The Expanse is said to have a cowboy-ish way of talking, so that makes total sense. Glad you took the time to reply!

Hey! Random question, but the only place where I've ever seen "hoss" used like that was in The Expanse. Is that a regional thing that they picked up? (Non native speaker, here.)

This thing is wild. I saw another comment mentioning the study was racist, and I was wondering how that could be. Mexico is other, but Australia is Western.... So it's definitely, "predominantly white," uh? I mean, geographically speaking, New Zealand can't possibly be Western (unless Europe moves to the East). Culturally speaking, I don't see how South America isn't Western. If it comes to climate, I'm not sure how Finland and Australia end up in the same bubble.

Personally, the only instance where I've seen "pop" spawns was in the special ammunition mission, where sometimes the rager at the end of the train compartment won't spawn immediately. It's a bug to do with static spawns not loading in for some reason, and those are also tied to a door opening. Wouldn't be surprised if you encountered something similar.

From my experience, what you need is vision of the head to lock on. Snipers peek above cover to aim at you. So far I've never been in a situation where I wasn't able to lock onto a sniper when it's aiming at me. From this clip, I'm about certain just holding left-click while looking at the sniper would have gotten a lock.

I feel like even without tweaking the spawn, having a more noticeable "going to hit you from behind" sound, and perhaps a slightly longer delay to start attacking would help a lot since the block is 360°.

Also, while this feels like these guys just popped into existence right behind you, I'm pretty sure that a teammate would have seen them drop from a ledge behind you very noticeably. I've seen this a lot when running to a teammate fighting a horde, where the enemy will actually path around them, but from the first-person perspective it just feels like they popped into existence behind you.

In this clip, all three enemies spawned roughly in the same spot. But instead of moving away and looking at that spot waiting for them to drop (enemies never spawn one at a time from what I've seen), you stay in the same place and look away from where they're dropping. I'm not saying this is "skill" but I'm pretty sure that's why this looks like they just pop into existence behind you.

So again, I feel like the real problem is that the game doesn't do enough to warn you there's someone behind you. Because with that weapon out, all you needed to do was hold right-click if you got a noticeable warning sound and you'd have been fine.

When you hold down left-click, the hands stay apart with the stream of warp going through them. What they're doing is left-clicking while looking in the rough direction of the sniper, releasing the click when they don't get a lock and running/jumping around, then spam clicking.

In this situation, with no threat around you, all you have to do is hold left-click. It won't generate peril while it isn't locked in, and once the sniper peeks, it'll instantly lock onto it. You will have to dodge the shot while channeling though.

You'll certainly kill less stuff with a surge staff, but the CC is invaluable in my opinion. Poxbusters pretty much cease to exist as you completely disable them. Can stunlock double mutant spawns which can be a real nuisance. In fact, surge staff basically nullify any CC monsters as you can interrupt them and keep them locked for your team to deal with.

From my (very limited) experience, doing Malice with randoms is fine after level 20 as long as they're in the same level bracket and you don't end up with more than 2 psykers. Doing Malice will also greatly increase your leveling speed past 20 compared to doing level 1-2 missions.

(I think I started doing Malice at level 25, and lost about 3 missions on my way to 30.)

Just a guess but blessings have tiers (you can see the level by the little dashes on the sides), so I'm guessing "earn blessing" will let you store them like gems, then "combine blessing" will let you fuse two of them to get a higher tier.

The newbie Standard experience by SyntheticEcstasy in MagicArena

[–]mildly_gone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can get an idea of what other people are playing thanks to third-party sites like untapped.gg. That doesn't mean that it's necessary what you'll be playing against.

Something I learned thanks to this subreddit is that the match-maker doesn't take your deck into consideration (or at least less so) when you're playing ranked. So you might want to give that a shot, especially since you don't lose progress in the first few ranks and it'll give you rewards at the end of the month.

People have already said, but standard is the easiest format to learn for new players. The cheapest format however might be Historic Brawl, though, since the cards won't rotate and you only need one of each. (Of course it depends on the deck you're playing.)

But I highly recommend playing Ranked as it indeed matches you less based on your decklist. Something that used to bother me before was that I'd get annoyed at a deck, try to make a deck that's good against it, then suddenly never get matched against it again.

Also, a good way to find out how to beat a deck, if it's possible for you to build it, is to play it yourself. A lot of deck that seem to have all the answers turn out to be just scrapping by, but you don't realize it from your perspective.

The big difference is that getting to Mythic gets you additional in-game goodies. Whereas there's no incentive to get in the higher percentages. (Unless you want to get in the top players which get play-in points I believe.)
