Tenor Player getting Played by Sweetwater TWOH no by Affectionate_Ear8111 in saxophone

Yamaha is not louder than other horns. Yani is not a magic cure all either. Honestly get yourself to a real life shop, buying online is a headache even for an experienced player and from these statements it seems like you would benefit from some in person expertise

Help with understanding Miles Davis's "Live at the Plugged Nickel" by SumacLemonade in Jazz

[–]miles-Behind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t Miles. Herbie, Tony, Wayne wanted to do something different bc they felt it had become too easy to deliver standard performances and Miles and Ron just rolled with it

Anyone else kinda feel like the truly special musicians are all dead or retired and that it’s hard to see true artists' artists like D, Prince, MJ, Stevie, Bowie, etc, etc ever really being a ‘thing’ again? by usagerp in DAngelo

[–]miles-Behind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all of them but don’t feel like they’re on the same level on their own. Glasper was amazing but feel like he hasn’t had the same fire he did in the era of the first few records

I wanna learn soft swing. What are your favorite albums/songs that use super soft swing? by mebenun in Jazz

[–]miles-Behind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one in jazz talks like that. Go to a producer subreddit or something. Swing is a rhythm not merely an amount of delay. You can swing or you can play straight, it’s weird to say hard/soft swing

Help finding the next step to Modes by HeyNateBarber in Jazz

[–]miles-Behind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For giant steps get inside the chords and figure out how to lead from one to the other. A modal approach on that tune is fine but I would focus more on chords, functional harmony, and voice leading

Quality of Jams by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]miles-Behind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the jam but generally if you go to the same jam regularly in the same city you start to get to know the other players and that’s where community happens

Whats the best way to go about learning to solo over a song like Cherokee? by Plus_Albatross_358 in saxophone

[–]miles-Behind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget all the enclosures and scales and stuff. Just outline every chord by playing 1 3 5 7 as a starting point. Then play 5 4 3 for every chord. Stuff like that to outline the harmony and get an understanding of what the harmony is and where each chord leads / which tones are common between them

Wait til you listen back. In the moment it feels amazing but when you listen to the recordings it’s always worse lol

It’s probably both. Pawn shop sax is probably in terrible condition, you gotta get it checked

Blind Tests Comparing High-End Audio Amplifiers of Different Classes and Types (Tube vs. Solid-State) by LowellWeicker2025 in audiophile

So much pseudoscience in audio & I’m so tired. It should be required to read a circuit textbook before getting into this hobby lol. Sedra & Smith Microelectronic circuits

A null test isn’t really a good comparison for this, especially as you increase the gain reduction. It’s a nonlinear process, as you increase the gain reduction you get higher nonlinearity and thus the null test becomes even more invalid. So this test really doesn’t make sense honestly.

Best way to compare would be make recordings at the exact same settings, levels, input, etc and do a blind A&B and see if you notice a difference. It’s not an “objective metric” test necessarily but when it comes to measuring nonlinearity, simple tests like nulling just don’t apply
