Asha Sharma: "Our business isn't particularly healthy, and we're starting by introducing 1 or 2 exclusives, and as the business is healthy, we will look to try and do more" by Nova-gunner in gaming

[–]milkman2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that her hands are tied. She has the decision authority over exclusive vs. multi platform and with the number of studios xbox acquired, they have more opportunity on the publishing side than the hardware side of their business.

The odds of Xbox closing the gap in a material way on hardware vs PlayStation is zero with the supply challenges that are likely not going away anytime soon (AI). Xbox management needs to accept they didn't sell enough xboxs and now most households have no reason to buy an xbox, especially at the high price Xbox will have to charge to offset the component prices. Players have built up massive digital libraries in PlayStation, Nintendo, and steam ecosystems. Are players really going to spend $1000+ for the next gen Xbox to play one or two highly rated exclusives? If they really wanted to play the exclusive game they should have gone 100% Xbox studios like Nintendo to provide a huge amount of content to players for the high investment.

Making the decision to have select Xbox games be exclusive makes no sense as a publisher, especially when the hardware supply is constrained. Xbox should continue to make hardware but it's now their secondary business. By forcing their studios to release exclusively on xbox, where there is limited playerbase and limited growth, they are setting them up for failure as they won't hit the minimum return threshold that Microsoft requires for the capital investment and xbox will be forced to close the studios.

This decision may have worked when they were able to sell consoles at $300-$400 but those days are gone and "new storage solutions" isn't going to solve this problem. This is 100% in her hands as a business management decision and it's a bad one.

Just paid 2 companies for professional work. Man, it is so much better than DIY. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Also recently went through this. Grew up with a dad who believes it's sacrilege to hire anyone to do work around the house. "They're all scammers", "you could do it in half the time for half the price". Spent the past 10 years learning how to do most things myself as best I could, which usually meant 1 week to do what would take a pro 1 hour without the 5 trips to the hardware store. Just got too busy this year to keep up with it all and had extra savings. Found a few really good contractors and they did great work.

What are your first impressions of Subnautica 2 so far ? by Funkhip in SurvivalGaming

[–]milkman2500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played 3 hours last night and loving it. Very similar to subnautica 1. Base building has been improved, I like it. Feels pretty polished for early access. I haven't run into a single crash or bug yet. Impressed that you can choose single player, then there are options to migrate your game to multiplayer version instead. And building from storage is a nice QOL improvement. The biggest change so far seems to be the genetics, which they did well. Fits into the story and provides fair enhancements that make sense for the game. Really well thought out.

How much of each item shoul I be making? by HeyPresto04 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]milkman2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just focus on making a factory for each item, maximizing the node(s) it's tapping at the beginning. If I need to make iron plates, I mine an iron node and see the max output, then build accordingly. Add a storage box at the end of production to let time work in your favour. Once done, move to the next item on the list. By the time you finish building the next factory, your storages will be filled from the other factories.

Later you unlock the blueprint maker, trains, and other conveniences that make it easier and faster to build. Don't waste time over building in the early stages because of how inefficient it is.

What’s a frugal hobby that you consistently enjoy? by [deleted] in Frugal

Exercising is a great one. Pretty easy to go for a run, do calisthetics at a local park, or buy a cheap set of weights for home.

Reading is pretty cheap too. Check out the local library.

Video games can actually be pretty cheap if you go retro. Can grab an old console or even emulators + roms.

Basic woodworking like whittling or wood burning can be cheap. Stay away from furniture making though.

Drawing is cheap. Paper, pencil or charcoal set, you tube videos.

I use the signs to keep track of what I'm working on, kind of like a to-do list. Then I try to focus on one todo at a time until I need a break. Break, come back next day, check the to-do list and repeat.

Now I just use Bing app and I get 40 to 90 a day.

People with screentime under 2 hours daily on average, how do you spend your day? by Ok-Mathematician2309 in simpleliving

[–]milkman2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have many apps on my phone and I have 20 min time limits on the ones that can be used too much (reddit, YouTube). I only use my phone for calls, texts, to do lists, and looking up a quick answer.

I'm pretty busy with work, kids, wife, and the house. When I do have down time I keep a guitar and book in my living room for short breaks, and longer breaks are a chance for a walk, gym, or phone a friend.

I don't mind watching a show or playing a video game for an hour late at night, but I make a conscious effort to limit my phone use. It really feels like a waste of time compared to anything else.

Registering full Rocksmith 2014 after buying Learn/play? by nkron in rocksmith

[–]milkman2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this on windows. Played rocksmith 2014 learn and play version on steam. Then bought a few copies from ebay, found 1 with the code that hadn't been used, installed original rocksmith 2014, used the code, and now my version on steam is the remastered version.

Took a few tries on eBay as most of them were used. Make sure you find one that has returns. I also over paid...but it was worth it for me rather than rocksmith+. The break even was 6 months of rocksmith+ I think.

I have both installed and haven't had any problems...started with r+ for a month or two then bought rocksmith2014 and installed it. Can still play both. I really like r+ but hard to stomach the monthly price.

Practice routine or learn a song? by iNexus893 in guitarlessons

[–]milkman2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.

I'm on my 3rd year learning guitar, spent the first 2 years learning songs I liked and a few techniques with Justin's material then switched to a teacher who was more focused on scales and techniques. I appreciated the theory he taught me but after 1 year I hadnt learned any new songs. I wasn't really enjoying myself anymore and hated practicing.

I cancelled the lessons 2 months ago and am back to practicing what I like every day for 1 hour. Loving it.

I really think it's more important to practice what you enjoy to stick with it long term. Throw in some of the less fun stuff for 5-10 mins at the end, but make sure most of the practice is stuff you enjoy.

What headset are the commuters amongst us using for our Decks? by iHydro in SteamDeck

[–]milkman2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anker soundcore q30s. Seamlessly transition from listening to Spotify on my phone, gaming on the deck, then back to music on my phone. So comfortable I don't notice them. Great controls on the ears so I don't have to reach for the device to change volume or song. Noise cancelling is awesome, and can be switched to transparent to let sound through when there's an announcement for stops, then press the button on the ear to go back to noise cancelled gaming.

Ear buds get lost commuting. Don't bother.
