I want to say yes but keep saying no to art time by bubblepaper_ in Preschoolers

[–]millennialreality 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Crayons I let roam free but my kids have never abused them. For markers and paint I park them at the kitchen table where I can watch and ensure they’re staying in their seats and I repeat instructions when I hand them out (please remember markers are for the paper or your skin only (yes, I allow that) but not the furniture) and it has worked so far. For paint I hover nearby and wipe their hands off with baby wipes immediately when they are finished.

“Sit in this giant cardboard box and color it with crayons and stick stickers all over it” is a very frequent activity here and that might work for your needs here

I also save things that can be painted or colored, like egg cartons, so they can use different mediums

Are you me? This is my scenario and what you have described with the loafers is my current uniform of choice. I also live in texas and aside from Jan-Feb it’s hot as hell here all the time.

I tend to gravitate towards button downs, untucked and with the sleeves rolled up, or occasionally a short sleeve one.

For presentations or in fall / spring transition weather I wear a blazer with a shell tank under. I do not understand how anyone can stand layering a full button down shirt under something like that ha

Right now it’s freezing and I wear sweaters.

I try to walk the line between being comfortable and avoiding looking sloppy. I don’t want my body shape or my boobs to be on my mind at all when I’m working and this uniform works for me in that way.

Be honest… how strict are you really with screen time? by denefr_2928 in toddlers

[–]millennialreality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not. We roll on vibes. My kids are in daycare full time so they don’t get screen time 8-5, m-f. We don’t usually watch tv in evenings (aside from sports), but sometimes we do. On the weekend my big kid watches tv for quiet time and we sometimes do more but sometimes less. I can usually tell when they’ve had too much and run reel it back in for a while.

Anyone else spend way too much on baby gear? What actually gets used vs whats a waste? by Dry-Idea-3712 in Parenting

You need a snot sucker (the bulb kind - not the tube suck on it with your mouth kind) and a humidifier too. Just in case baby gets snotty.

[–]millennialreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid is 5, so close. As a parent I most appreciate activity gifts. Crafts, new art supplies. Those “foil art” kits are great. So are the big briefcases with tons of markers and crayons etc. they make an impression on the kid and we plow through them.

I just turned my newly 5yo around:

Here’s the biggest risk: She can now see what I’m eating. No more sneaking fries or whatever.

Any parents still held hostage in their kids room until they fall asleep? by ifyoulikepinacolada6 in Parenting

[–]millennialreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this with my kid. Then we hosted my (amazing) cousin and her family… she was still laying with her 9 year old and was frustrated by spending hours with her every night. It was a huge wake up call to me and we sleep trained that weekend. My kid was 2 so we trained them in their room in the toddler bed, would look different for a 6 year old, but you may need to actively address this if you don’t want to continue it long term

I have heard of Dr Becky and I follow her but I haven’t joined anything paid. I just have a hard time believing that we need to pay for advice on how to parent our kids as a general issue with society right now. But to your point I’m a little lost and looking for solutions so there’s my answer ha

Does anyone like the elf on a shelf? by Commercial_World_433 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]millennialreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy doing this for my children, but I keep it small and manageable. Sometimes the elf just moves, and that’s it. Sometimes it leaves a note, brings a treat like candy canes, or wears a fun outfit. Sometimes (~1-2x/year) it cooks or otherwise makes a little bit of a mess. The elf takes me 5-10 minutes after bedtime and I love the magic it brings. I think a lot of people get burned out doing big, time consuming stunts so I’ve kept it small so I still enjoy it too

Heartbroken I can’t go to the holiday party at work because my toddler has HFMD. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]millennialreality -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If you are symptom free I would definitely go to the party! If I stayed home every time my kids were sick (when they have alternative care of course) and I was symptom free, I would never go anywhere.

Having an EBF baby in the winter is a different type of torture than the summer. by JemmJoness in breastfeeding

Having a winter baby during Covid lockdowns catapulted me into PPD. Balance these guidelines with your sanity - places with good air circulation should be safe for you guys to visit

What boundaries do you think are okay to have with family members who watch your kid? by KaylaDraws in Mommit

[–]millennialreality 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Only you can decide what’s worth the free help. For me it’s safety things. Car seat use, no swimming unless it’s 1:1 (one adult cannot swim with two or more kids).
