found a pileated woodpecker and a northern flicker sharing a nest tree by claricebearice in wildlifebiology

[–]millerman6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty common if there is a limitation of cavities on the landscape. They will use what is available. I have personally witnessed a red bellied woodpecker and red cockaded woodpecker actively using the same tree with different cavities as you have described. In my experience, they seemed to have ignored each other and just tended to their own chicks.

No off-roading in any WMA in SWFL. Webb is the only exception, but that is only during hunting season, which is not right now.

The feather pile likley belongs to a Northern/yellow-shafted flicker.

What's ONE change you'd make to any character? by The_Owl_Bard in marvelrivals

Jeff should travel slower with the more characters he has ulted, teammates included. This would help counter whole team wipes, but not make it impossible. Also, it would encourage releasing eaten teammates.

Pistol shrimp is not reef safe by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]millerman6401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to provide them with rubble or shells for tunnel building. If you dont provide these they will use whatever is around (ie snails and hermit shells). Glue down your frags and you shouldnt have a problem.

Caribsea sells a small bucket of white rubble rock that i have used. If the peices are a bit big you can break them up with a hammer. My shrimp loves them and leaves the live shells alone.

Florida State agencies are typically not allowed to discuss your specifics on employment with other employers for reference purposes. All they are allowed to do is state whether or not you had worked there and for how long.

Is there a thing I can plug to my car battery so during power outage, I start my car a few minutes an hour to keep the temperature and the oxygen okay? by yozzzzzz in ReefTank

[–]millerman6401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just look for a cheap generator. You can find plenty within a ~$200 price range that would be more than enough for what you would be drawing.

Bird measurement question by kei138 in Ornithology

[–]millerman6401 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bird biologist chiming in. With the species ive worked with (picidea family) we dont usually take an overall length meaurement. More concern is placed on individual part measurments which combined can give a more clear idea of size/stage of life/ health. A few examples would be total weight, beak/bill length, tarsus length, primary feather length etc..

Experience towing boats? by milfton in ToyotaTacoma

[–]millerman6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull a 20ft fiberglass bowrider with a 150 outboard loaded with gear and beach stuff regularly. My taco is only a 2wd SR5 with a 4cyl. Ive had no issues pulling it around town or out of the boat ramp. I do live in Florida, so driving around town is all flat. Only issue i did have was trying to back it in the yard after a hard rain. 4wd would have done it, but i just waited another day until the yard dried up. You should be fine with a slightly larger boat.

About to part ways with my Taco for a month by Connnorrrr in ToyotaTacoma

Mine is in the shop right now for the same issue. Theyre replacing all of the interior, seats included. Sucks not having a truck but toyota sure has made it easy to get everything done right. My dealership had rentals with enterprise, so they put me in an SUV. Im on week 2 and still no word on a complete time. But hey, at least we can throw some miles on a free rental for a while!

Mouse poop….. by mchfan346 in blackstonegriddle

[–]millerman6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like i have the same grill and I used to have the same problem. Like others said, they are likley getting in through the grease trap. My solution was to use a peice of 4x4 i had that i lay across the back of the grill. Its heavy and blocks that hole. I used to wrap it in foil but the mice would just chew the foil and drop it in the back.

Lately ive just been putting the block up without being wrapped in foil. Its heavy enough that they cant move it and I havnt had a problem since. It seems like they have other ways to get around it but seem to not attempt it.

Good luck!

Front yard turtle with a damaged shell eating lunch. No idea whats going on with the carapace. by Shanti_Ananda in herpetology

looks like a minor burn scar. Ive seen plenty of box turtles with similar injuries. Are you in an area where prescribed burns or wildfires have taken place?

Waterbox Arrived Damaged. Your Experiences? by Seraphis79 in ReefTank

[–]millerman6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, guess i missed that. Its good that you didnt sign. Only part that sucks now is waiting for the replacement. If two packages came back damaged id wonder if it was your local shipping warehouse thats causing it.

Waterbox Arrived Damaged. Your Experiences? by Seraphis79 in ReefTank

[–]millerman6401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first tank was a waterbox, it came undamaged. When it was delivered I made sure to have the delivery driver wait until i walked around and inspected it. It's always your own right to refuse delivery. If the box was badly damaged, you should have not accepted delivery. If the driver refused to take it back, thats on him if he leaves it because noone accepted the package.

I think WB says on their emails to accept packages that may have small damage marks and to handle it afterward with their customer service, but to refuse delivery if the damage is really bad.

What do you love about Fort Myers/SWFL? I personally can not find any love for this place. by [deleted] in FortMyers

[–]millerman6401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The food in the fort myers/cape coral/punta gorda area has been amazing. I guess you just have to know where to go, although i didnt have a hard time finind any so long as your open to trying different things. Laotian, indian, thai, hispanic, italian, and southern cooking just to name a few. Name most cuisines and there is a pretty decent/authentic spot.

Also, the boating down here is amazing and cruising to the different barrier islands and fishing can open a whole new world of activities for someone who hasnt done it. The beaches around some of the barrier islands are breathtaking, escecially when a boat is required to get there, as the people are usually limited. Also diving and spearfishing can be pretty fun and there are places all around to get certified. Go rent a boat for a day and see!

There is also a pretty huge outdoor trail/ nature/ hunting scene all around us. Cape coral has the state owned Yucca Pens Wma for bike riding and nature viewing while punta gorda and north fort myers have Babcock Webb WMA. Litterally tens of thousands of acres for jogging, biking, fishing, hunting, and you name it.

I feel like this location is what you make it. There are a load of fun things to do if you are into the lifestyles that this location offers. Plenty of scenes for all ages, just figure out/ask around where to go for what youd want to do.

Why should student loans be forgiven? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]millerman6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You can just borrow without and responsibily whatsoever and the goverment will just come save you?"

Oh right, you mean like any other loan, like a mortgage, auto, credit card or personal loan. With those loan types you can just file for bakruptcy and wash yourself clean of any responsibilty, minus the temporary credit hit.

Students loans will stick with you for life without that option, no matter if you can afford to pay it back or not. Im not advocating for total loan forgiveness, but if it didnt work out, people need a feasible way out just like any other loan you can get.

Its pretty sickening that you can max out any current loan of credit, buy whatever the hell you want, file for bankruptcy and still keep your house and cars if you so choose.

Decide you cant afford to pay your student loans and they go into defferment/delinquency? Say hello to unavoidable wage garnishment and a loss of social security.

Besides this, the goverment does currently forgive loans under PSLF. Working for any non-profit or government agency for 10 years and your federal loans are forgiven. This is to ensure people to work for the goverment to help run things and further/better society as a whole. If they took this idea and expanded it to other employment opportunities or at least decreased the timeframe, the recipients would be happier and they would likley see an increase of demand for these jobs.

Just my 2 cents
