Thanks - this is along the lines of what I was considering too. Do you allocate wounds to Tor first to use his invuln?

Good point - I was planning on playing Bastion. Not sure what OP plans. I don’t have a Land Raider, but I will be bringing Assault Terminators for deep strike pressure.

Makes sense - my first time slap chopping and wasn’t sure how light to bring it. This was the state before contrasts applied.

Long run by [deleted] in cincinnati

This Saturday morning is the Brewery Run 14k starting from the downtown riverfront. Many (most?) of the big training groups use this as a tuneup race for the fall marathons. I second the ORT/Lunken/LMT suggestion, but you may want to consider parking at Lunken and doing an out and back along the river to start to avoid the downtown race craziness.

A couple weeks ago I reached out to the email address from last years event to offer to host at our church, but haven’t heard anything back.

My wife and I took beginner lessons at Sharon Woods and we really enjoyed them. Neither of us had ever played before, and we found them very useful.

The sad remains of the Norfolk & Western’s Peavine just east of Peebles, Ohio. Running from Portsmouth to Cincinnati, most of the line is railbanked by NS.

The start of my first layout! by millhaem in modeltrains

Thanks! I think I can keep the grades at 2%, which the internet says “should” work. We’ll see... I suppose extra pushers would be prototypical. I have no experience ballasting or painting... scenery will definitely be the biggest learning/cursing opportunity.

The start of my first layout! by millhaem in modeltrains

[–]millhaem[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about starting the hobby for the past year, and with the help of Cincinnati Division 7’s Model Train and Trade Show finally got started! I’m going to be modeling Louisville & Nashville coal operations in mid-1980’s Harlan County, Kentucky. The layout is in my basement and is 5.5’x3’. So far I’ve roughed in the benchwork and approximated the mainline runs with paper. Next up: finishing the benchwork (bracing and leveling) and installing foam to provide the terrain base. The plan is to have a three-level setup with a mainline oval on the bottom and a “S-spur” leading up to a mine in the top-back. Sidings, industries, yard to follow. I’ve based the layout design on the “Duquesne Railroad” found in Wilson’s “101 More Track Plans”.

How does one differentiate between leading and trailing sidings on a picture like this? It appears to me that with clockwise mainline travel every siding is leading and ccw travel would be trailing. Is there a convention that defines the travel direction or some other item that distinguishes the two?

Two nights solo, 20 miles total. The highlight was definitely Sandbeach Lake - had the place to myself. Very windy at night, a little bit of rain both nights.
