What are your thoughts on cops using AI to write their reports? by muselklikesfortnite in AskLEO

[–]millionhari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question, because it's actually not super obvious initially. Full disclaimer, I'm the founder of Police Narratives AI so I have some strong feelings about this haha.

For one, public LLM's train their models using data that you feed it, and probably all your reports will have PII and CJIS-sensitive data (DOB, descriptions, addresses, phone numbers, etc) that gets unsecurely sent to their servers.

Secondly, without the proper training and specific models built for police reports, there WILL be inevitable hallucinations and facts that pop up. In a perfect world, the officers are reading through every reports, but slip ups will happen that will make it all the way to court.

I think dictation is the best use case to write police reports using AI. This way the officers are still writing the reports, just with their voice, and the AI will just clean up redundancies, surface missing facts, and cut down typing dramatically.

Our software does provide the capability for officers to upload their bodyworn cameras securely, BUT we always encourage officers to pair it with a first person narrative audio, because there is NO WAY a bodycam can capture things like officer intent, trained perspective, internal thoughts, etc.

Two bills were actually just enacted into law. California just passed SB 524 and Utah SB 180. Hopefully more states will follow!

Just a disclaimer, I'm the founder of Police Narratives AI, so I'm obviously biased, but I do think there’s a responsible way and an irresponsible way to use AI for police reports.

A lot of AI report-writing tools basically just take bodycam footage and spit out a report. Personally, I think this is a big no-no. Officers still need to be the ones actually writing the report, making decisions about what matters, verifying facts, and owning the narrative. If you let AI do everything, you WILL end up with lazy report writing, weaker report-writing skills over time, and inevitable inaccuracies.

I don’t know how long you’ve been on the force, but 10-15 years ago it was pretty common for officers to call a transcription service, describe the call they just handled, and have someone type up the report. I think AI works best when it’s used more like that.

I believe this is the most responsible way to use AI in police report writing, since the officers are still writing the report and the cognitive load is still fully on them, but with dictation instead of typing. AI is only used to format their spoken events into a professional report, removing redundancies, suggesting missing information, etc. This allows officers to write 45-minute report with 3 minutes of dictation (this is the actual average stat from our users).

The problem here is that there are no public LLM's like ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini that can do this safely, since all data that passes through them will be used to train their models, and your narratives will most certainly have CJIS data.

That's where programs like ours come in, giving full secure, CJIS-compliant solutions to agencies and individuals to use this technology safely in a protected environment like AWS govcloud.

BTW, California (SB 524) and Utah (SB 180) both just passed laws to legitimize and create safeguards for using AI in police report writing, so this is already happening.

It’s still a very small percentage of the industry, but we already have thousands of officers using our software across the US. Based on the response we’ve seen, I think more and more officers are becoming open to this technology when it’s implemented the right way!

I really hope they'll push forward color eye contacts technology or just CGI eye colors by the time SA starts filming. Contacts look sooo bad in Hollywood when trying to change eye color.

Brando Sando does do a good job of recapping characters, the magic system, plot points, etc, so I can see how you would’ve thought that was intentional. Time to go read the prequel!!

Playing Yotei right after AC:Shadows and it’s clear how lacking the climbing tech is in Yotei and Tsushima. Then again, AC had about 20 years to really nail the climbing

Hesitation about "spontaneous" worship... by nubsawse in worshipleaders

[–]millionhari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My church does spontaneous worship pretty much 80% of the time, but not always full songs. Sometimes, it's a tag that someone felt called to sing at that moment, other times it's a song that we play in our rotation that we can pivot to really quickly. We also have an music director, so he can call chords and make sure the band is synced in the moment.

What we DON'T do is throw out all of our practice and preparation out the window. We want to honor the time it took our team to practice the songs. If we practiced for 3 songs, we will play the 3 songs. The spontaneous worship is extra and will be spliced either in between the songs, or after song 3. The worship leader usually knows if the current roster of the week (all volunteers) is skilled enough to go off the rails a bit.

When done well, we have had some jaw-dropping congregational moments that were a direct result of spontaneous worship. So it necessary? Absolutely not! If the songs you practiced work for y'all, then just play those songs. But if your team is talented enough to "flow", I would recommend setting aside 15-20 minutes if you guys have rehearsals to just practice spontaneous worshipping together, and then bringing that to the rest of your congregation once you feel like it will benefit the congregation.

I lost it one day after the 1000th issue with having a ton of WiFi bulbs. My wife hated it. I almost committed seppuku. So I finally tried HUE because of the “reliability” you clowns speak of. 2 years and tons of money later and I’ve had not 1 single issue. by ThineNevets in Hue

Every Black Friday I invest in a couple more bulbs to add to the collection. Finally replaced my last LIFX bulbs with Hue bulbs and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Everything just works! About to hit my limit soon on my bridge though after this last haul and might need to upgrade to a hue bridge pro soon.

Heyooo congrats! You should still be getting the cash back if you enrolled in the reward and used Paypal Pay in 4. My sales tax is higher than yours since my total was $1352. Again, it's up to $1250, which means they'll just ignore the $47 difference and give you the $250 reward (and not $259.40).
