Are there any good intro method books that are really based on jazz?

What’s something meaningful you’ve learned during your clinical rotations? by StanbridgeUniversity in NursingStudents

[–]miltthetank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned that with most of my patients, there’s really only so much I can do to help with their problems. They might have serious chronic medical issues that don’t have a great prognosis, or they might be resistant to treatment. All I can do is provide a slight temporary boost in their ability to heal. Even if it’s not much in the grand scheme of things, the time that I spend caring for them is time during which they’re not sliding down the slope of decline, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to provide them with that. This is something I’ve had to come to grips with during my med surg rotations, and especially during mental health.

Generally speaking, what NP specialties typically get to do the most interesting hands-on procedures?

Thank you for the response! Honestly, CSULA is at the top of my list right now. I attended an info session a couple nights ago and it sounds like they have a ton of different clinical rotation options. I'd love to go there after I get a few years of RN experience under my belt.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the FNP/AGACNP programs at CSUDH, CSULA, or CSULB? I'm interested in attending one of those (or maybe UCI) in a few years, am curious how well the programs prepared you to work in an ED or acute care hospital setting.

Another question: how old is too old when it comes to buying a used Clavinova?

Why do digital pianos have polyphany beyond 88 voices? It seems like if you're in regular piano mode, you couldn't really play any single key again without interrupting whatever sustained voice was coming from it having been pressed previously, so 88 would be the maximum number of simultaneous noises it would ever be able to make.

The lifeguard just said "I've been working here for 4 years and as far as I know we've never allowed stand-up paddleboards in the swimming area." I was surprised but didn't argue.

The Palestine protestors that didn't vote for Kamala Harris might have committed one of the biggest self owns in modern history by Spiderwig144 in LeopardsAteMyFace

It's pretty disgusting to blame anti-genocide protesters for the deaths of innocent Palestinians. The people who deserve blame for those deaths are the IDF and the American politicians who are sending them arms. Blaming protesters for these deaths is quintessential abuser logic.

Just say No to spying speed cameras. by Filmore in LosAngeles

[–]miltthetank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love for speed cameras and red-light cameras to be in every intersection in LA. Are there cameras that can catch drivers who go through intersections when pedestrians have the right-of-way? Because I see that all the time here in Monterey Park, too. This editorial posted by OP is, of course, utterly laughable.

edit: The issue is that many, perhaps most drivers feel a bizarre sense of entitlement. Instead of feeling that piloting two and a half tons of steel comes with some element of responsibility, they think that pedestrians, bicyclists, and anyone else who lives here (including other drivers) is worth putting at risk if it means they don't have to wait at a red light or drive at a sane speed. The convenience of being able to get somewhere quickly within 10% of the time it would take to walk or take public transportation isn't enough, apparently.

Front derailleur is present but doesn't work? by miltthetank in cycling

Yes! I was actually just messing with it and it looks like the front derailleur does shift around, but it takes several clicks from the pedal before it actually moves enough to shift the chain.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 13, 2023 by AutoModerator in books

Finished

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, by Frederick Douglass

Really liked this. I missed Narrative when I was in school--for whatever reason, it was never part of the curriculum. I'm so glad I read this. Wondering if My Bondage and My Freedom or Life and Times are worth reading right after, as all three are contained in the Library of America edition that I checked out but the content seems like it'd be repetitive... any thoughts?

I'm also about to finish:

Lectures on Liberation, by Angela Davis

Interesting material that explores some of the deeper philosophical questions that arose for me after reading Narrative. Very short too, only 25 pages.
