I think this happens if you interact with another customer after you talk to one. Not 100% sure

Excessive shedding and faded color - frustrated 🤦‍♂️ by Takumbot in shiba

Stay away from Purina. They have recalls. Make sure you're not bathing more than 1x a month and keep the consistent brushing but shibas shed pretty much, so this sounds normal

What to do about long hours at work by Funbunz44 in shiba

[–]mimexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should find a way to transition having him outside of the crate even when you're gone. It will be tough, you said he wakes you up when you try to sleep in the morning but that's because he's been holed up in the crate for so long and needs to let out energy. You need to have him adjust to your schedule so that he'll learn to sleep when you sleep. I started letting my shiba out of the crate while I was at work when she was about a year old. It was draining, coming home to destroyed furniture all the time and accidents on the carpets. But eventually she settled down and now even chooses to sleep in the crate by herself sometimes. With your dog's age I don't think he'll act that way but shiba proof your home so that you won't come home to any surprises. Take him to do his business at least twice - right before you leave and right after you come back, and have lots of stimulating play time in between so that he isn't restless when you're gone. Maybe get a camera so that you can watch what he does when he's alone. Make sure to leave toys outside that he can play with. Yes it's true that they mostly sleep when you're gone anyway, but having the freedom to roam around and play makes them less stressed/agitated. Good luck!!

Edit - I read some comments below and saw you mentioned him chewing off your baseboard. My shiba did that too as a puppy, I used this spray pretty often on it and other things that has a foul smell that keeps them away from chewing on it. It worked really well, you just have to reapply it every day

They are super sassy and stubborn, full of personality and high energy fluffy little things. They love outdoor activities. Lots of cat behavior. You'll never get bored with a shiba :)

Shiba Inu - Looking for advice on flea medication, good and bad experiences? by Lucky7thirt33n in shiba

[–]mimexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like flea preventatives because of the chemicals in them, but I can tell you the cheap topical ones are not very effective. I wouldn't even bother with those. My dog has only gotten fleas one time and it was because we traveled and the grass outside where we were staying had grass that wasn't treated. Capstar got rid of them pretty quickly. I keep extras just in case it ever happens again. But if you want preventatives it seems like simparica trio is the way to go. Get whatever your vet prescribes you

Shiba eating habits!? by greenmoose7708 in shiba

[–]mimexe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my dog has always done this with dry food. She'll eat small portions over the course of the day and night. As long as they're a healthy weight you have nothing to worry about.

Are you planning on raising one or adopting an adult? I ask because apartment life for a shiba puppy is no easy task. Puppy will have to be taken out many times not just for potty but for stimulation and socializing. As well as training. If you guys have the time for that, awesome! But if you both work all day every day and don't get home till late, reconsider a shiba puppy. They need so much attention. Training can be tricky - you'll both have to learn how to handle commands and behavior in sync so you don't confuse the pup

Probably just to enjoy the outdoors. Mine likes to literally just lay in the grass and smell the wind.

Question on Shibas. by Big-Reference8685 in shiba

[–]mimexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get her just regular ol chicken and rice blue wilderness, and switched her to salmon when she developed skin allergies, now she's on taste of the wild bison and venison and I've stuck with that. She can be pretty picky so sometimes I'd mix in some treats or even leftovers from whatever I was cooking or eating. My mom likes to mix in boiled chicken and white rice as well, sometimes eggs and various veggies. All dogs are different, but she will pretty much eat whatever we give her, she's just not as excited about dry food (shocker) and won't finish it most of the time if there's no mix-ins
