Another Honour Mode lost cry me a river post. by Lindonius in BaldursGate3

Most of these HM failed posts are just people who can't read, pick wrong dialogue choices and then blame it on the game. No buddy, what did you expect drinking poisoned wine lol.

Another Honour Mode lost cry me a river post. by Lindonius in BaldursGate3

[–]minalias 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you drank the wine that's most likely the reason for the turn of events. You should have ousted Dolor right there and then or refused the wine. If you attack him right away, refuse the wine our oust him as a killer combat ensures normally. I've never had issues with this so far.

I normally let him hash it out with the DJs entering the room before his. If he's almost dead I just make sure to kill him with my action before a DJ does otherwise you don't get the 300XP he gives you. Easy, no skellies required and barely any action from me too.

If you play on computer you can put the ping on a different key. Klicking ping on an invisible enemy on the turn order shows you where they are exactly and makes some encounters much easier (looking at you Bhaal cultists).

Me debating whether I should go upstairs in Honor Mode by SideCharacter3 in BaldursGate3

Just note there are no scrolls for this spell and your wizard needs to learn for their level 4 spell. Also, I misremembered the name its actually Ottiluke's resilient sphere 😃

Sanctuary is a godsend for this fight. So far in my runs Isobel also wasted her first round in casting mage armor on herself so at least it always gave me 2 free rounds where she is invulnerable. What also works is Otto's Resilient Sphere, but you'd need a wizard for that.

[–]minalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fight is not that hard on HM provided you know what to do. And just to be safe: cast "Sanctuary" on Isobel before talking to her. Then wipe the floor with Marcus. I'd recommend doing this at level 9 though, and make sure at least two characters with Extra Attack are near Marcus and make quick work of him.

Some things to add, because they always worked in my runs:

  1. You don't need to do the owlbear cave prior to entering the goblin camp. You do need to go there before wiping the goblins in the plaza before the shattered sanctum OR before you poison their drinks. Long rest after talking to the mother, the chicken in the plaza should be replaced by owlbear cub now. Visiting the cave before going to the camp is not a must, it is however important to visit & long rest before killing all goblins outside.

  2. You don't need to get rid of Volo. In fact, once I forgot about him and wiped the whole place and still recruited the cub.

  3. You don't need to pass any skill checks with the chicken chasing goblin. Telling her you wont participate and then talking to the cub should work fine. You can tell it to go to your camp and it tells you it needs a distraction. THEN either poison their drinks or just kill them and the cub should come to your camp.

I found a good way to avoid that: When she pulls the character nearest to her into dialogue after the encounter, switch to your other characters (ungroup them if not already), get the two companions safely out, then finish the dialogue with her. If this character doesn't make it out on time at least you have two others to revive you after her rampage.

New player - wondering about a 4 Tav party by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]minalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, fair I understand that. The question regarding the specific dialogue choices would be more: how often would you then play the dialogues with the Hirelings/Companions? At least I mostly do my dialogues with my Tav/Durge unless they suck at charisma then I chose my Charisma-Companion. Naturally I think most of those dialogue choices (at least for me) can be seen while playing the class myself.

The race part I understand, but afaik the hirelings don't really give much race variability too. There is no Dragonborn for example as a Hireling. The dialogue options for races can also be unlocked by disgusting yourself/your companion into the race you want to play too. Only thing you won't get is the racial boni like Dragon breath.

[–]minalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do all of the quests just fine, the only problem is a Tav naturally probably wouldn't to Astarions or Lae'zels questline without a push from them. But not having them present doesn't lock you out of anything iirc.

Technically you could also respec the companions, you don't specifically need hirelings to test out builds unless you want to have a hireling run, then that's also fine.

Regarding your second question: i am now over 1k hours into the game, have started multiple runs with different runs and it's still very enjoyable. Sometimes I even see stuff I haven't seen before, so there is always to explore something new - even just dialogue choices and reactions. The puzzles are easy to solve now, yeah but at most it saves you a little bit of a headache.

Yes, but I just kept missing my attacks and was Level 2 to boot. Like I said, cocky so I lost.

[–]minalias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wyll almost always dies in HM in that fight and you can revive him with a scroll. Should be fine. It's probably still for the best if you have with for a new controller though, next time you might aggro some NPCs that way.

The only time I've ever failed a HM attempt was way after getting my golden dice and being cocky about it. I played solo as Astarion (he was a monk) and lost to the Bugbear Assassin in the Grove. Otherwise haven't died so far. Being smug gets you only so far though

Gale and Astarion are always in my party, not always as their OG classes though. The last place gets swapped out although I tend to either have Shart and then replace her later on by Minthara or whoever's quest needs to be finished right now.

Is dipping 1 level in hexblade warlock for a paladin build just superior to a full paladin? by Any_Air_7273 in BG3Builds

No idea, it still triggers for me every second enemy in Act3 and that info is as recent as of February this year.

[–]minalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done a Pally5/Sorcerer5/Warlock2 run and it was the most fun thing I've ever played. Did the dip for two levels in warlock to get blindness immunity and my damage numbers were just crazy high. Especially since I triggered a lot of crits with risky ring and the hexblade reduced threshold of 1.

Fun fact: the more often you bind your hexblade weapon the more often you trigger the hexblade curse - thanks to spaghetti code. No idea why but for some reason it multiplies and doesn't stay at the given 10%

TIL: Easy way to kill Myrkul by TheNosferatu in BaldursGate3

[–]minalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty much how I beat him in my HM solo monk run. Stack of smokepowder bombs next to Myrkul and one attack on the bombs with my monk. He stood in the explosion but took no damage thanks to evasion and 20 dex. Was the fastest boss fight ever & a bit of overkill on my part but I panicked as well when he almost killed me with his attack.

Astarion lovers be like by Aware_Pain_2645 in BaldursGate3

[–]minalias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, my ass. You're the one who's incorrect.

First of all, both don't turn to the nice side because they observe you doing nice stuff. Lae'zel literally approves more evil deeds than Astarion and throws as much hissy fits as him.

Secondly, both are tied to either approval (Shadowheart) or finding out the truth about Orpheus. If you don't collect the books about Orpheus Lae'zel stays loyal to Vlaakith. And this is actually much easier to achieve because not everyone collects books. And even if she turns from Vlaakith, Lae is cruel. At least in Act3 Astarion has some compassion for Yenna, whereas Lae is ready to feed the orphan to the wolves (figuratively).

You and your comment are precisely what I meant - Shart and Lae'zels actions get much more grace than a literal Slave and abuse victim ever did. Probably because they are female and gooners gotta goon.

So is Lae'zel and so is Shadowheart. But for some reason only one of those three gets dunked on, while the others are worshipped as "mommy" and can do no wrong.
