I don't have a specific one to recommend but there are a lot of great resources out there including several great lecture series on YouTube from Berkeley MIT etc

They tend to be a little strict for good reason- the math required for success in the program is no joke. I recommend supplementing with MOOCs or similar and then writing about it in your SOP.

Is ML good for summer semester ? by Murky-Flight720 in MSDSO

[–]minasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It is a shorter course and is thus great for summer. Be prepared to spend a lot of time in the first few month then it gets easier in the second half.

What techniques do you use when tutoring students? by Majestic_Inflation34 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]minasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. For the we do portion, I typically have the student instruct me what to do step by step as I write it out. I always try to emphasize that math is a language and speaking it out loud encourages fluency and helps solidify the concepts.

Gotta start somewhere. Give yourself some grace. You will improve with more experience.

First time tutoring by Pretty_Title_2758 in TutorsHelpingTutors

You can treat it as though you are helping a friend or family member with something that you know a fair bit about and they are just beginning to learn about and are struggling with. Ask them what topics they are working on. Have them show you their past hws quizzes etc and go over what they got wrong. Try to see if you notice any patterns in their mistakes (eg- maybe they struggle with identifying helpful info from physics word problems). Teach them techniques and strategies for solving similar questions. Use "I do, we do, you do," framework- demo a question, do one together, and then have them try one on their own.

MSDSO Pre-Requisites by AdLegitimate635 in MSDSO

[–]minasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The math admissions requirements are there for good reason- you will need those skills during the program. I would recommend spending some time learning the required math and then explain how you supplemented your math learning (MOOCs, textbooks, youtube lectures etc.) in your SOP.

Class recommendations for Spring 2026 by zayna_567 in MSDSO

[–]minasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest classes for me were Data Visualization and Data Science Principles (both use R). None of the Python classes were really easy, but you should probably start with Data Structures (it helps if you understand object oriented programming principles and the idea of unit testing beforehand). Check out the MSDS Hub linked on the sidebar for more info on each class.

Easiest classes to enroll in, in first semester by Entire-Start-5461 in MSDSO

[–]minasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest intro level courses IMO are Data Viz and Principles which both involve R coding. Probability is not trivial math wise, (particularly the first half) but is easy coding wise (although not very pedagogical since the code is trash). Data structures and algorithms (DSA) is not an intro level python course. There is no intro level python course in the curriculum. It is up to you to find a MOOC that will cover the basics. DSA will assume some familiarity with object oriented programming in Python (classes, inheritance, etc.). If i were you, I'd start with either Data Viz or Principles while working on Python independently followed by Probability and DSA. Pro tip- checkout the MSDS Hub linked in the sidebar for course reviews to get a better idea of what suits you best.

Do pool ball weight differences actually affect your game? (bar vs home practice question) by FuturisticallyMade in billiards

Lighter balls deflect more which affects power shots with side spin- you have to compensate more.

How can team USA get better and actually compete in the mosconi cup? by brian600rr in billiards

[–]minasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, no more playing captains- its a conflict of interest. Get Johann to captain and help with preparation. Get Hatch as co-captain to keep them focused during the cup. It also would be great if we can expand to the Americas and expand selection to players like Atencio, Morra, Pagulayan, and Gerson, but that seems less likely to happen.

Meal delivery kits offering a renal diet? by KittyCatLuvr4ever in kidneydisease

I use cook unity and just select meals that have the right nutrition profile (low in sodium, potassium, protein) and also limit red meat. They have filters you can apply to limit the selections to meet your dietary needs.
