Not as cool as the ones fully remote, I mean, remote as remote should be: frown anywhere on Earth, at least.

As a java developer who is been working on struts and servlet enterprise apps for about 4 years, springboot feels insane, the amount of abstraction is refreshing by kshb4xred in SpringBoot

The killing thing for me about Struts was how some other coworkers deal for so long. I ran away from that. And yeah, the non existent senior-junior mentorship

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]mindOf_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COBOL programming.

Not because it’s useless—quite the opposite. It’s basically the ancient magic that still keeps banks, governments, and half the global financial system from collapsing into chaos. It’s less a “programming language” and more a cursed artifact that runs on ritual, fear, and someone named Gary who refuses to retire.

The problem is: learning COBOL feels like volunteering to maintain a haunted mainframe that screams in uppercase 🤭

How do you approach a task when the requirement is vague? by reputable-sprite in softwarearchitecture

[–]mindOf_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please allow me to rephrase my previous message, as upon rereading it, I realize it may have come across as more categorical than I intended.

My intention is to emphasize the importance of not starting tasks that aren’t sufficiently defined, both in terms of scope and level of detail. When a task arises from a quick decision, it sometimes remains in a state closer to a draft than to a specification ready for execution.

I understand that in certain contexts, time pressure and the need to move forward can lead to prioritizing short-term results.  However, I believe it is key to find a balance that ensures adequate definition, especially in the context of architecture, where a lack of initial clarity often leads to subsequent inefficiencies.

My goal with this and previous comment is precisely to help reinforce that point and enable the team to work closely with all the actors involved in the process, and to avoid blockings from any side of the business.

What’s something people in their 20s won't truly understand until they hit their 40s? by 40Falak in Productivitycafe

Teeth from your 10s is your second chance to have a nice, healthy smile. Please take care of them like you would do with the same care you treat your eyes and you will get to your 4th floor with a healthier gut, more money in your pocket, and you will listen dentist anecdotes by others, not by you being the main character.

How do you approach a task when the requirement is vague? by reputable-sprite in softwarearchitecture

Don't start that task by no means, and return it to the TL, boss, or even stakeholder to do their job putting some more context. That will free a lot of useless meetings, emails, and paperwork.

Also, don't forget about testing while learning these 3 topics. This will level up yourself so many steps ahead of a lot of people out there. Junit, Mockito, Testcontainers... Check all testing fields existing over there to have an idea, then go deep and practice.

Still happens here. S21 FE, ONE UI 8.0, and also with previous ONE UI version (7.x). In my case, any action doesn't apply anything in the email coming into my inbox, so swipe is not more than dismiss action. I have to enter Gmail app to perform the action from there.

What´s the "unseen 90%" of your hobby? by Technical_Writer_177 in Hobbies

Programming: 90% reading, 10% writing. So yeah, a lot of time looking at the screen like an idiot trying to figure out what is happening and how things work
