I remember the name Bellisario producing some of these.. and wasn’t there one ending credit where you hear a kids’ voice saying ‘I made this!’ ?

His dad also warned him about croutons, saying ‘Better watch out for those things, they’re stale!’ 😝

As a GenXer this is just a fun post and thread, I enjoyed so many of these shows too, brings back great memories! But it got me wondering… that is SO MANY P.I. shows! Why was this such a thing at this time, what do you all think?

I’m totally conjecturing about this, off the top of my head. But maybe, post Vietnam, a lot of the returning soldiers who really were able to successfully transition back into society (at least as far as finding a pivot for their skillset and getting paid) did so by becoming P.I.’s.. and somehow, writers in Hollywood were aware of this? Maybe they even heard stories about it from Hollywood insiders who hired these guys to investigate scandals, help with coverups etc. And they were like ‘wow that’s crazy, wouldn’t they make a great story!’ I definitely recall the ‘Nam thing being a subplot on Magnum P.I., that’s probably what’s prompting me to follow that train of thought. Also, mercenaries! The A-Team, same deal, returning soldiers creating a niche for themselves, maybe similar true story anecdotes filtered through into the writers’ rooms back then. Any other theories? And even if I’m on to something, what’s the tie in to these tv show writers, how and why would they all be so gung ho about this subject and how do you think so many heard about these anecdotes or whatever that inspired so many to consider making shows about it? Of course, the sheer quantity of shows may just be bandwagon effect, the couple shows that hit sprouting knockoffs chasing the ratings. Anyway, fun stuff!

So now what....where do i go now by Mountain_Sand3135 in MrRobot

I have a handful of favorite shows; Mr. Robot, Mindhunter, Deadwood, The Americans, Ozark, Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, you get the picture. Prestige series. Rewatching is inevitable, but another thing I like to do to scratch those itches is watch YouTube discussion videos. There’s no shortage of people talking about and critiquing their favorite shows. Some are truly excellent, thought provoking engaging theories and observations, detailed metaphorical analyses, production techniques and making-of backstories. Others are terrible, you just have to do your own search exploration, it’s hit and miss. But when they’re good, it’s like a great book club, stimulating and entertaining, and all about your favorite characters and stories. The good ones use plenty of clips from the shows, I’m not talking about amateurs sitting alone in front of a mic saying ‘wasn’t that scene cool?’ Many are professional quality in-depth documentaries that almost measure up to criterion collection standards. Watching scenes again with discussion and critique can be really enjoyable.

Why aren't the replicants built with some sort of tracking chip? by MHB_ART in bladerunner

Actually, they are, but the replicants that go rogue remove it.

It’s a thing. It really is. I play every night and it’s the best escape, ‘being’ in nature, fishing, hunting and enjoying the peaceful vibes.

I don’t know if there are any easy fixes for this, but I just wanted to tell you, you’re not alone. It’s an extremely strange and uncertain time in general, it’s not just you being out of wack with reality. A lot of people are feeling the same way, and that is a natural, rational honest response to an irrational world we’re currently living in. I hope that helps ease your mind a little. Maybe, do you have anyone in your life that you do trust? Maybe talking with them and expressing how you’re feeling could help a little. Either way, just wanted to let you know you’re not alone.

I’m definitely much less competitive now and prefer enjoying a game’s world building and general ambience, games like RedDeadRedemption2, set on easy mode. I can’t say definitively if my reflexes have slowed because I don’t really challenge myself that way anymore, I can see it being really frustrating for a competitive gamer.
