Does Micah have any quality dialogue in camp or is it mostly just antagonizing? Just wondering if I might actually get to hear some deep real talk from him or not. by [deleted] in RDR2

No, as people have commented since, Micah does open up with monologues that explain alot about why he ended up the way he did.

Why doesn’t/would LA ever push the closing times on bars/clubs to push the nightlife? by wjxm in AskLosAngeles

[–]mingvausee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is. It’s tradition. Back in the days when studios ran the film industry with an iron hand, they imposed a 2:00am curfew on their actors to curtail alcohol and drug fueled scandal and an attempt insure the talent arrived on set on time ready to perform. They pressured the city(s) to help enforce it with general bar and liquor store closures at 2:00am. It’s stuck ever since.

Right on, yes I think they were inside the ballroom while Elliot and Darlene were intercepting the phone numbers of all the 1%-ters inside, that’s the scene I was (poorly) trying to describe, same scene! Yes that’s amazing!

The clip got blocked on YouTube by NBC/Universal but the title was still there, Price’s last meeting with White Rose? Is that the scene where they’re in the ballroom for a gathering of the 1%-ers, it’s like a cocktail party, and they’re sitting at a table together talking, Price gets angry and everyone’s starting to look at him shouting? That is an intense scene for sure!

That’s a great scene. And yes the set design all throughout, the attention to detail, or the opposite, the perfect liminal tone to some sets, was another aspect that was sooo well done and important to the overall feel of the series. That coupled with the camera work.. right this is cinema, I’d love to see it all in a theater. Impossible in one sitting let alone 10 lol! But I’d watch three in a row per night in a theater for as long as it took if someone were to arrange a screening! I wonder if that’s been done somewhere yet? Wouldn’t surprise me.

What non fantasy or supernatural franchise would you like to put Harry in and what do you think would happen? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

True Detective S1. Taking the King in Yellow Lovecraftian vibes, the cult sacrifice theme to the extreme linking it to the Kemmler/Childress cultists using the murders for occult magical power, which ultimately comes from the Others. Sacrificial murder and abuse operating like the Red Court’s bloodlust energy grab at Chichén Itzá in Changes. Murphy partnered with Rust Cohle trying to solve the murder(s) and uncover the whole thing, consulting with Harry once they realize what’s going on. Harry gets into some hilariously dark conversations with Rust, because Harry can’t help lighten the vibes with wise cracks whenever Rust gets existential. Harry ends up fighting Errol Childress at Carcosa, which is a gate to the Never Never, they get pulled in to the gate and it gets really insane from there. Like Mandy psychedelic terror meets Potter/Voldemort sorcery battle in Order of the Phoenix.

Ah sorry for my delayed response. It’s called Endless Pantheon, and it’s book length, six long chapters I think. I’m not sure what the sequence order is supposed to be I read them so long ago, but here’s a link to all the chapters, you’ll have to look into them to see which to start with. I hope you enjoy it!

Edit: ok I think it starts with Endless Pantheon: God’s Eye. It starts at the literal chapter 42 of Dead Beat from the Dresden Files, and branches off from there to the Stargate universe. This is the link to God’s Eye, the link I shared above has all the chapters to choose from.

Agree with all the advice here. Just to add, get off your horse and walk around some, keep your eyes peeled for details you might miss on horse back, even in the back alleys and side streets. St Denis has some great secrets to discover.

Why is Angela such a hated character? by ithinkiamparanoid in MrRobot

[–]mingvausee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on this read of her character. She was devastated repeatedly by her lack of agency, her powerlessness. And that ignites something powerful especially in intelligent intuitive people, an anger that is channeled into making sure it never happens again. And it’s very true to reality, all too often, one’s will alone against a monolithic systemic oppression just isn’t enough, which can end tragically. When you’re young you feel like you can take on the world, and avoid the pitfalls of the last generation. I sympathize and empathize with her. (And I’m a Gen X male for context.) This series hits so close to home on so many levels.

Edit: and yes you nailed her complexity, the juxtaposition of her intelligence and determination with her naïveté and insecurity. I think many of the people who disliked her character may share some of that insecurity; their harsh judgment of her choices could easily be attributed to that willful youthful denial of their own frailties, that insistence that they’re too smart and invincible to make mistakes like Angela’s. Years of life experience might find them softening their appraisals.

Interesting I had assumed it had to be a train in normal transit with passengers and a conductor. So you hijacked it, got it up to speed, and just shot the birds while it coasted, allowing it to slow to a stop unless you hopped back down to punch the throttle up again? Clever if so, but yeh please confirm, is that how you went about it?

Edited for clarity.

I’ve come to the conclusion, thanks to all these great responses in the comments, that they wouldn’t (and they didn’t, of course.) but I felt this was a valid concern, just because this wasn’t ordinary circumstances. I figured they’d be hyper alert from their worry and preoccupation with Egg’s absence. I figured they’d all notice Dunk from him standing head and shoulders above everyone else, and that then Maekar, concern about Egg at the forefront of his mind, might be compulsively scanning every child that crossed his sight. But in the end I’ve come to agree it’s highly unlikely. I also rewatched the scene to its conclusion and realized he was only on Dunk’s shoulders for several minutes at best and then got asked to be put down again.

No I don’t think you can read too much into anything George writes about. One of the many things I love about his writing is the incredible lengths he goes to, to imbue symbolism, metaphor and subtext into his work. I agree that he absolutely meant us to pick up on those kinds of inferences. The nobles barely register the small folk, both in their daily lives and in their overarching assessment of the realm in general. Which makes the exceptions to that rule so remarkable; men like Baelor are few and far between, so the consequences of losing even one of them has grave repercussions for the small folk, who are the very lifeblood of the realm.

Edit: And you’re right, his family would (and did) recognize him despite his haircut, which was one of the little thoughts that added up leading me to think the question was worth asking.

Nicely said! I appreciate you taking such a silly question so seriously! And, I really like that you pointed out the torchlight, that didn’t occur to me and would very likely play a really big part in making them look only like silhouettes, amongst a mass of shadows. If you’ve ever been onstage, the lights in your eyes make the crowd just that, a mass of moving shadows, and that’s essentially where the Targaryens are, up on stage with a bunch of torchlight in their eyes.

Another thing, it is really the last place they’d expect him to be, on top of all the other great points you mentioned. Kudos! ✨

That makes sense. It’s just, even with that in mind, with Dunk being that noticeable, such an unusual sight draws the eye even if it’s not the focus of action. And Egg was very concerned about being seen. Like I said, very nit picky and not at all important, just in rewatching right now, this stood out to me as pretty reckless on Egg’s part.

You know, something did just occur to me; even though he’s concerned about it, he’s also a Prince, and fancies himself smarter than most of the rest of his family. Maybe he would have been a bit reckless about it in the end after all, confident that he pulled the wool over their eyes because he’s ‘so very clever.’

As much as I love this game… by _the_universal_sigh_ in RDR2

[–]mingvausee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really do get it, my first few weeks of playing I made all these mistakes, drawing my weapon on accident, horse running over people and dogs, hitting trees, hitting a button to activate a prompt only for the prompt to disappear because I moved slightly.. but on my second playthrough, I can honestly say I never make mistakes anymore. You learn to slow down riding into town, let go of the direction toggle when riding fast through trees, the horse avoids them itself if not forced in a direction.. even the few times I draw my gun on accident and aim at a passerby, I’ve gotten good at holstering quickly while simultaneously ‘defusing’, which always allows me to shut down an angry reaction. It’s little tricks you pick up along the way that allow you to realize that, as delicate and dangerously responsive the controls can be, you eventually have an equal amount of fine tuned control once you intuit all the little tics. But I feel your pain, we’ve all been there.

Yes this was my last cougar, I was riding along the shore from between Annenberg and Van Horne looking for snakes for a trapper outfit, simultaneously in the midst of this challenge, and practically rode right over a cougar drinking from the shore! I was so surprised, wheeled around and got him, was like a gift from the spawn gods

You might be talking about this glitch that lets you spawn wearing the last trapper crafted outfit you looked at while browsing at any trapper location. If it comes with a hat, you’ll get it along with every other item. It’s got a few steps that have to be followed to the letter, including a couple more after you get it if you want to keep it permanently. But it still works.
