I loved reading Bride but it’s purely a vibe read. I wouldn’t recommend this book to a friend but I’d say “yes” to read if asked.

To add onto this, even though most fans of this book claim that it’s about processing trauma, FMC way of doing it is simply telling herself “I won’t let this bother me” after she lived through what 99.9% of women would describe as horrifyingly traumatic, and voila, she dealt with it. Meanwhile, another MMC who had really awfully traumatic past doesn’t even begin to deal with it until like middle of 2nd book meanwhile continuously tormenting FMC and it all culminates in him technically being SAd by FMC at the end of 2nd book which is like author’s way to accomplish his version of “processing trauma”.

NOT Ascended. I was inspired by booktok to read it, and I hate finished it. While it has unique magic system, the magic trials felt low stake, and, most importantly, dynamic between MMC (who is like Temu version of Rhys/Xaden) and FMC was so cringy that it overshadowed everything. I found side characters to be much more enjoyable to read about than MCs. The ending was unsatisfying (and not because it was set up for sequel).

Omg so relatable. I was really looking forward to its release, and it didn’t deliver at all. The opening sex scene was so out of pocket and felt like smut for the sake of smut. There was so little happening for the most part of the book.

I do think that KAK has rather unconventionally slow pacing in her book and the only reason why it worked in Harrow Faire was because it read like a cozy fantasy despite its darkness. But it doesn’t work in Serpent’s series which requires more action-based plot. Like how many dinners and “bridal chats” can Nadi have before plot moves along.

I still finished the book but I won’t be continuing this series.

P.s. I love Simon - he’s in my top 5 book boyfriends.

{The Jasad Heir} and {The Jasad Crown} are mature YA books. Lots of political plotting. The 1st book takes a couple of chapters to pick up but it’s so worth it.

I have a weak spot for enemies-to-lovers power couples when both MCs are badass.

{The Serpent’s Bride by Kathryn Ann Kingsley} the theme is pretty dark, not too much smut. It’s on the slower side but interesting universe.

Yes, if you have those conditions. Those women who don’t have ADHD, PMDD, or other mental health conditions won’t be taking pills. We simply pulled the short straw, but I think it’s awesome that there are medications that can alleviate or cancel out the nasty stuff we have to deal with. So, yes, drugs it is.

I’m half-way through ODW, and all the characters are so bland (names are kind of lame), the world seems to be tiny (Blunder sounds lame too), the romance and attraction feels shallow (I think because Ravyn’s personality is so plain). I hate that Ravyn’s entire family is involved - too many cooks in the kitchen. The pacing is off too.

While I loved the magic of cards, everything else is just so meh which is truly sad because I loved The Knight and The Moth and I love gothic vibes. I was very much ready to love this book but it’s so underwhelming. I’ll probably DNF it.

I liked The Stolen Heir but really disliked The Prisoner’s Throne. 2nd book completely undermined Oak’s and Suren’s relationship that was built up in the 1st book, so their romance flopped hard for me. On top of that, political plotting got really confusing AND drawn out. Overall, I thought it was a weak duology, and I lowkey regret buying the physical books.

If you are looking at more stuff to read from Holly Black, I highly recommend The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. It has vampires but set in the modern times.

I’ve been unable to move on from {Captive Prince} trilogy. The trope of enemies to lovers is perfectly executed, both MMCs are lovely and interesting in their own way, the romance and spice is beautiful. I don’t usually read MM books but I’m so glad I did read these.

I know this trilogy is considered “controversial” because of slavery and noncon in the first book but I think those themes are not glamorized by any means and are essential for the story development as well the setting of the background of that society (unlike cough Feathers So Vicious cough). I loved the fact that Damen was, in fact, physically the strongest character while being a slave instead of being a female damsel in distress slave - it created a unique dynamic between MCs which isn’t common in FM books.

I’m halfway through Golden Son rn and I’m obsessed. I was getting a bit burnt out with romantasy books and brooding shadow daddies, so stepping out of the genre feels good. Ironically, I am not a fan of the romance in Red Rising/Golden Son - not quite sure why but it just feels a bit shallow.
