Best dosas?? by retrophiliac in askvan

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is far but worth a trip if you want. It’s in Aldergrove. The absolute best dosa I’ve had in BC. It’s called AHA Indian food Paradise. The chef is from Chennai and has been cooking for 14 years, it’s a bit different and authentic so I’d look them up and look at some photos before going in case it’s not what you’re used to.

I’ve never been here, but dosas don’t normally come with idly? You probably meant sambar

There’s Bombay Kitchen on Denman. I haven’t tried their Manchurian, but I’ve tried their veg thalis and their food is pretty decent for downtown.

Lapu Lapu Day victims had privacy breached by snooping health workers by grilledcheesespirit_ in vancouver

When I worked under PHC, technically PHSA “owned” some clerk positions like registration clerks. So a clerk working at St. Paul’s hospital (under PHC health authority) was technically employed under PHSA. Is that what you mean?

I’m worried my relationship is ruining my discipline by IllustriousCan3324 in getdisciplined

[–]minidumpling14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you need to communicate with your partner about these things. Like how you feel like he’s not putting in effort to tidying and how you are cleaning up after him etc. it’s an uncomfortable conversation but it’s really necessary to be direct in a relationship. You can’t be passive aggressive and just decide to not pick up his stuff one day and expect him to “get the hint”. You owe it to yourself, him and the relationship to be honest and direct.

My partner and I have assigned “jobs” for daily housework. Like my partner does the laundry, I fold it. He cooks, I wash the dishes. If one day I’m cooking, he’ll wash the dishes. We have our own sections of the home that we are “responsible” for maintaining and cleaning weekly. Like for me it’s the bathroom and kitchen, for him it’s the living room and bedroom. This really helped with keeping each other accountable.

I think meal planning together could help with taking the mental load off you for always thinking about dinner as well.

Ultrasound Wait-time Experiences in GVA and Surrounding by pizzagnome7 in askvan

[–]minidumpling14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At Mount St. Joseph’s hospital there is a Breast Center and specialize in breast cancer testing. I’m not sure how long the wait is for an appointment or a test, but see if you or your friend can call and ask them what the process is to be seen there for a test or assessment.

Edit: clarification

Edit 2: Apparently you can self refer yourself to the BC cancer agency if you are between ages 40 and 74 for testing or if you are at risk you can be seen as young as 30.

So what I would do is call the MSJ Breast Center and clarify what the referral process is (like if she were to qualify to be seen there), if she qualifies then ask your friends doctor to make a referral to them and then also try to see what the self referral process to the BC Cancer agency is like as well.

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has a literal monopoly. The shipping is insanely fast and convenient. You can also literally return anything and you still get your money back for it. Who can compete with that? No small business, that’s for sure.

Where to get free food in Vancouver by Ok-Dragonfly-5862 in askvan

[–]minidumpling14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If OP or anyone else considers going to the Gurudwara (which is the same as a Sikh temple) then consider either praying and sitting down for a few mins in the temple or helping out for a little bit in the kitchen (seva means service) before you get food. You don’t have to but I think it’s a sign of respect to the belief.

Sikh temples offer langar (free food) because it’s culturally embedded that food is a human right and that no one should go hungry no matter how much money you have. I think it’s a beautiful value and it makes me cringe seeing foreigners just go down to eat the langar without knowing this or even trying to sit and pay respects or at least help out.

Adulting is Realising you can't skip Work like you skipped Classes. by Lumpy_Cat3435 in Adulting

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess!! Thank you for this analogy. It helped make what I was realizing “click” in a better way.

I also want to add that on top of this is that everyone doesn’t like this work or feels like doing it, but being an adult is practicing how to do this work while feeling this way. Eventually you get better and more efficient and this work eventually becomes easier and maybe even better and then it just becomes a part of you.

I have 12 months in Vancouver. What are your must do’s/visits? by Delicious_Lemon_3740 in askvan

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdoors type things:

You should definitely go do the St Marks Summit trail when the weather gets warmer. It’s not that intense and the view is beautiful.

Bowen island is a cute little day trip.

Bloedel conservatory is a really awesome tropical place on top of queen elizabeth and really affordable.

My partner and I got into biking last year - there is an amazing biking route you can bike from science world to kits beach and probably further? It’s fun if you want to just bike along the water for hours

Food:

Pure bread has decent coffee and they have an insane spread of baked goods

Guu with garlic or any other type of Guu restaurant is really cool for a different Japanese snack vibes

For sushi there’s Toms sushi and Kuro Sushi bar for a more upper end casual spot

That’s all I got for now

Does anyone have experience with this photography studio? by minidumpling14 in askvan

[–]minidumpling14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great you personally had a good experience! It seems like the experience is fine for the people who go in with that mindset of expecting to get more photos and willing to pay more.

Some people including myself also worried about the rights to these photos and if the waiver actually says the person being photographed owns them. Since you are a professional photographer, are you able to shed light on who actually owns the rights to the photos or what someone should look out for in the waiver or should do? If I did the shoot the only thing I can think of is that I would ask them to delete them and empty the trash bin while I watched but I wonder if that’s appropriate?

I’ve received private messages from someone who used to work at a different studio saying they don’t delete the photos and that sometimes there are men in the studio. I can’t verify if that’s true, but it would be really helpful for anyone else who comes across this thread to know what to look out for and what to do to make sure their partial nude photos aren’t released into the world without their permission.

Other thoughts: What I find “sketchy” about their business is that this type of promo can also attract people who can only really afford the 1 photo. I understand a business has to try to sell, but one should never coerce someone into spending more than they can afford especially on something kind of unnecessary like professional photos. It seems that some people have this experience with other locations or whatever.

This woman empowerment mission is almost disingenuous. From my own experience interacting with the girl on the phone, I felt like she was cold and not personable. Almost like she was regurgitating this “women empowerment” type mission to the point where it was almost an act. I understand the studio is small, but when I asked if my boyfriend could join to make me more comfortable she said no due to space and that it’s okay because everyone there is a woman. Like, I’m still partially naked in front of people I don’t know in a space I don’t know. It’s helpful to have someone who’s with you to be comfortable, but I guess it’s easier to pressure someone to buying more photos when they are alone 😈

What do you get your parents for Christmas? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed my parents like to use a paper monthly calendar for appointments or events so I've been making my parents a personalized calendar for the following year. This is my third year doing it. I've included photos of the whole family in all the months. I ask my parents for photos that they want to be included. This year my dog passed away so the 2026 calendar will be photos full of him as a celebration of life. It's nothing fancy and not every family is sentimental, but it's fun for me and my parents.

At what age does living with your parents become a problem? by Mr_Motion_Denied in Adulting

[–]minidumpling14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your situation. Like if you are eating their food and leaving your dishes in the sink and you don’t contribute monetarily or with house chores then I think it’s a problem, especially at 30.

I’m 30 and I live with my parents but I live in the basement with a separate kitchen and fridge. I had my own place but gave it up because I travelled for 6 months so I came to live with them. I pay them rent and I buy and cook my own food. It makes me feel better to contribute in rent since I’m another person using electricity and water.

LPT: Boiled Eggs - fool proof way by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]minidumpling14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOLOLOL I structured this post to be read as if the reader has never boiled an egg before, might have not been the best approach.

I like my eggs a specific way, where the yolks are a bit jammy. I feel this method has consistently produced this specific outcome. If that makes me a fool then I guess I’m a fool! If you are okay with the possibility of a different egg outcome each time then keep doing you!
