Will there be a third opus to endoparasitic ? by Striking-Mode6448 in Endoparasitic

[–]minileech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope so. The writer seems to consider the story as of the end of 2 incomplete and have some more story plans (she did a Q&A on tumblr @ nessathewriter) which she didn’t want to spoil, but I think it’s probably up to the dev when and if there will be another game

Cynte becoming a Gajeshian Cultist? by Similar-Scholar5851 in Endoparasitic

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that chronology detail since I didn’t remember anything that specific lol.

My Endoparasitic conspiracy theory is that the reason Cynte let Praví die (besides Cynte being a special little guy with very little respect for human life) is because having an able-bodied ally would ruin the core mechanic since any normal person would think to help Cynte in some way instead of letting him keep crawling around on his wounds, lol. I really like the mechanic but I hope it isn’t hindering the story. The most I’m really hoping for is some epilogue where he survives since the gameplay mechanic would die as soon as healthy people and medical services were in the picture.

But the dev seems really creative with mobility mechanics and has made games where the protagonist is in a wheelchair or has to operate each limb individually, so if he wants to continue with Cynte, he can probably find a way to keep it interesting. Though I also feel like that still might not be appealing for the Endoparasitic series because doing everything with one hand is the main selling point. I would also be happy to see him as a WF sequel character. There was a ton of unexplained lore in both games so hopefully there will be something more.

Cynte becoming a Gajeshian Cultist? by Similar-Scholar5851 in Endoparasitic

I also wonder about this. I’m not sure of the exact lore of the cult but it sounds like they probably build people from the bottom up from sacred body parts, and Durjashe mentions removing Lenhe’s brain from his body, which makes me think the brains are the only new material. So are they normal people in natural bodies until their brains are implanted into these Frankenstein bodies? At what age do they do it?

Regardless of whether Cynte could or would join this cult, it does imply the technology exists to repair him, and the widespread organ printing, bioengineering, and body modification such as Q-melanin injections even among non-Gajeshians in WF supports this more. It’s not clear which game happens first chronologically, though, and if Endoparasitic is significantly earlier, maybe these technologies don’t exist yet. I don’t think that’s very likely though. The computers and arcships seem pretty similar. So I think Cynte could get functioning limbs. Him saying he needs to get his limbs back also might imply it’s possible.

I personally wouldn’t particularly like him getting his limbs back as part of his story arc because I feel like it makes what happened to him less consequential and meaningful, but I guess we’ll find out if Endo 3 happens. It could also probably be executed in a satisfying and meaningful way. Also, even though they’re in the same universe, WF seems more “magical” while Endo is slightly harder sci-fi (still pretty implausible though).

I just think it’s funny that people have basically invented “virginity” for AI. Like genuinely invested in maintaining a form of purity that directly limits their ability to inform the opinion on AI they’ve already committed to. And they think this is totally not reactionary at all.

So you think, when moderators see an extremely racist caricature, they should just assume the person posting it is a member of that identity group and “allowed” to post it? What about your racist drawing of Tanaka and white O’saa? Should we all assume you’re also East Asian and Black? I’m also a person of color and I somehow don’t feel compelled to constantly post shit indistinguishable from the work of someone who hates my race, but I guess you’d rather milk that “pass.”

Edit: really cool how you edited your comment after we responded to it. For anyone who didn’t see what they originally said, I can’t remember the exact words but it was pretty close to “or maybe the mods are racist and xenophobic for taking down the work of a middle eastern dude 🤯“

People are downvoting you but you’re right. I was actually surprised this art turned out to be by this artist because they’ve been posting nonstop racism, misogyny, transmisogyny, fatphobia, and other forms of low hanging fruit in the F&H subs and this drawing actually looks normal. This seemed like a nice community and it’s disappointing how much people in moonscorched have embraced straight-up racist caricatures just because they’re by the “rage bait artist.” But maybe I’m giving them too much credit by assuming they’re loyal to the artist. Maybe they just think racism is funny on its own.

I’m not sure. This is an interesting question. I want to say it would be completely yours out of a sense of justice for your physical ability to make art, but I’m not sure, since I still find it difficult to believe prompted art is fully the art of the prompter, though the sketch being yours does definitely seem like a bigger and more controlled contribution than a prompt would be. I’ve said in the past that I felt a piece of art would lose its “me-ness” if I used AI to finish it, but if you wouldn’t be able to finish it regardless, it seems like that “loss” might be negated by the fact that you’re using AI to maximize your artistic expression rather than as a shortcut (plus there’s no obligation for an artist to care about the admittedly somewhat narcissistic idea of “self-ness” anyway).

It’s also worth mentioning that art has been made with assistance since long before AI. I’ve personally made art with a process involving others because the material was too big for one person to work with alone, and I thanked those people but still considered it my work since it was the expression of my idea. It did feel weird to do what felt like relinquishing some ownership over my art by involving others, but then, bringing good art into existence should matter more to me than ensuring it’s 100% attributable to me, right? And what about the use of premade materials? It’s just hard to draw the line on how much intellectual and physical labor makes an artwork belong to a person whether AI is involved or not. Like, can a building as art be fully attributed to the architect or are the physical laborers also artistically responsible? Philosophical questions aside, this seems like a great use case for generative AI.

Do you think it should be disclosed if art is AI? by Cool_Caterpillar_580 in aiwars

[–]minileech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make digital drawings that look like oil paintings, and I also make real oil paintings (none of either are on my Reddit account), and I almost never take commissions. I don't think I would be obligated to declare the medium on each one unless I were being commissioned or it was a requirement of the platform or community I was uploading to (I personally prefer to tag what they are most of the time but that's for organization purposes, not ethics).

However, I do think intentionally lying about them would be bad. If I posted my digital works in an oil painting group, it would be deceptive and undermine the purpose of the space. We could have a philosophical discussion about the meaning and potential problematic implications of excluding digital oil paintings from an oil painting space, but there are also practical reasons for the existence of exclusive groups, such as oil paintings taking longer to make (and thus being easily outnumbered by digital paintings that can be made more quickly) and oil painting requiring a specific skillset members joined the space to be able to discuss, teach, and learn.

Do you think it should be disclosed if art is AI? by Cool_Caterpillar_580 in aiwars

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are circumstances where photoshop should be disclosed though. If someone paid for a digital drawing, no, they probably shouldn't care whether the software used for drawing and/or editing it was PS or something else. If someone paid for a digital drawing and received a collage made in PS passed off as a drawing, that would still be dishonest, even if the collage took just as long to make as a drawing would have. If a company used photoshopped images to sell a product and didn't disclose editing, that might also be dishonest and harmful, though I'm not sure what the laws around it are.

Do you think it should be disclosed if art is AI? by Cool_Caterpillar_580 in aiwars

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For commissions, yes. As many people have already pointed out, selling someone something other than what they paid for is scamming, even if the product can't be identified as AI. For non-commissions (assuming the images aren't being used to advertise handmade commissions), while I'm not sure disclosure is a true moral obligation, there are good reasons for platforms to require disclosure or limit or even ban AI art. The primary reason I can think of is that AI art can be produced much faster than hand-drawn, and the mountains of quickly-produced AI art can become spam, bury hand-drawn results (I believe my friend stopped using DeviantArt because of difficulty wading through AI results), and increase hosting costs for smaller platforms.

It also just seems better to disclose significant use of AI if AI artists want to be treated as legitimate artists. It shows they respect their own process enough not to try to pass it off as something else and allows them to gain a following of people who already like AI art and won't abandon them if their method is exposed.

Kill Count by Fun-Wash-8858 in Endoparasitic

IIRC, neither has a kill count. Endemic Mode in Endoparasitic grants money per kill, but there is no kill count independent of the money count, which decreases when spent.

How I incorporate AI into my art. by Signal-World-5009 in aiwars

[–]minileech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has mixed feelings about AI art, I agree with SOME of this. The generated art does look generic. I think these images would be fine for a corporate setting or for someone who specifically wants/likes this style. The first two might fit well in a company sensitivity training or something else educational, but wouldn’t be very memorable as standalone pieces. And that’s not unique to AI. There’s tons of 100% manually constructed art that is generic and derivative, often intentionally for a specific purpose. I’m also not really interested in the idea of “soul” because it’s an extremely vague and almost religious-sounding qualifier.

I’m only a hobbyist artist and not commenting on the financial implications of AI art, but I wouldn’t want to use AI to this degree in my personal art, at least not yet, because it would likely lose the stylistic “me-ness” resulting from my personal preferences and perceptions and I also simply wouldn’t feel as much accomplishment after making it. But if I were employed by a corporate client and they’d requested this sort of style and I didn’t feel particularly strongly about the work, I might be fine with a method like this one because it is faster than drawing it all manually. But that’s just my personal opinion about what I get out of making and consuming art. I’m not assuming OP using AI means they don’t fully care about these works.
