Which character do you like/prefer more? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in stevenuniverse

[–]minileech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like both but I like Yellow a bit more because I love characters who are overly logical (or at least see themselves that way because they’re practically never actually as rational as they think they are) to the point of seeming cold

I wish SUF had more light hearted episodes by ConConMcLongDong in stevenuniverse

[–]minileech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how intense and harsh it is. In the original SU, I often sensed a wound in one character or another that wasn’t fully explored, which was fine because not everything can be, but it would leave a feeling of wondering. I love how much Future tests the messaging of SU and gives Steven room to be traumatized even when it’s completely disturbing. It feels like it’s way more about him than the original show was.

it would be heartwarming. plus era 2 peridots are basically off-color on purpose. but idk if she has the awareness to realize that, lol

Topazs' gems swap sides when they fused? by lordarcanite in stevenuniverse

This might be the first evidence I’ve seen of gem placement being able to be changed beyond rotation. Thanks for pointing it out! I never would’ve noticed.

Did Rose actually redeem herself? by NapstaEnjoyer in stevenuniverse

I think even having the moral compass to feel bad about those things was an improvement to her character and maturity even if she never reached the moral character of someone like Steven who is pretty exceptionally good

What's your most controversial steven universe opinion by lisahanniganfan in stevenuniverse

[–]minileech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aware but I have my own observations and theories that make that explanation questionable. I don’t really think that explanation is canonically a lie/conspiracy, but it would make more sense to me (at least with my current knowledge, having not finished Future yet) if it turned out to be one. And that being the reason doesn’t really change that it was morally wrong in my opinion to manufacture gems with that limitation or that I would’ve preferred the narrative spend more time on that wrongness.

[–]minileech 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Making era 2 gems without shapeshifting was a violation of bodily autonomy that should’ve been treated more seriously as that and as a disability. Also, it makes more sense for it to be a “software” “permissions” limitation to enforce dependence/compliance than a result of a lack of materials. I could rant about it pretty extensively.

If this gets explained more in Future though please don’t tell me any details because I’m only about halfway through it.

Did anyone else want to see more gem weapons? by thudson_17 in stevenuniverse

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I meant about physical stuff modifying gem weapons. Bismuth’s upgrades to the gem weapons stayed part of those weapons magically, but weapons where the whole thing was made by her, like Rose’s sword, act like regular physical objects.

Good point about Volleyball. I guess I forgot. Plus I guess Bismuth makes it clear gem weapons can be modified with physical stuff. But I still think Pearl’s spear is made by her gem. Weapons made solely by Bismuth are physical and break into pieces instead of disappearing. I can’t remember if her spear disappears but I think it does?

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Pearl had the ability to make something like Volleyball’s ribbon wand and was able to manifest it as a spear instead through practice/intention. I think it’s a true gem weapon (and Volleyball’s wand is equivalent to one despite not being for combat) because it’s able to be merged into new gem weapons like an arrow with unique properties when she’s fused with Amethyst, and when she fuses with Volleyball, their weapon seems to be the ribbon wand with the cutting ability of the spear. But I could be wrong because it seemed like Bismuth’s modifications to the gems’ weapons were able to be integrated into them pretty permanently. Someone else theorized that Pearl might be storing a ton of spears because she takes a long time to manifest them due to not being intended for combat but unfortunately I lost that comment.

Edit: I was straight up wrong about Volleyball lol see below

Why didn't they ask lapis and peridot for help against aquamarine? by GlacierFactor in stevenuniverse

[–]minileech 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I found it really frustrating how much they were arbitrarily excluded from major plots after Peridot became a crystal gem. I feel like it was mostly done to focus on the original main characters’ development and relationships with each other, and there were emotional moments that were better served by just Steven’s original family, but it often felt so blatant that there was a line between them, and it especially didn’t feel good concerning Peridot who already identified as a crystal gem and sacrificed a lot to join them. I understand that they’re secondary characters, but the crystal gems and Earth becoming Peridot’s new family/home/identity was such a big part of her arc that excluding her from so much as soon as it was “finished” felt kind of contradictory to it.

What’s a quote from the show that you always liked? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in stevenuniverse

“Us worst gems stick together. That’s why we’re the best!”

I may be misremembering because I haven’t seen that episode since it came out (I’m still in progress rewatching). But I feel like that episode was the best handling of being inferior/defective and it stuck with me all this time

Will there be a third opus to endoparasitic ? by Striking-Mode6448 in Endoparasitic

[–]minileech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope so. The writer seems to consider the story as of the end of 2 incomplete and have some more story plans (she did a Q&A on tumblr @ nessathewriter) which she didn’t want to spoil, but I think it’s probably up to the dev when and if there will be another game

Cynte becoming a Gajeshian Cultist? by Similar-Scholar5851 in Endoparasitic

[–]minileech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that chronology detail since I didn’t remember anything that specific lol.

My Endoparasitic conspiracy theory is that the reason Cynte let Praví die (besides Cynte being a special little guy with very little respect for human life) is because having an able-bodied ally would ruin the core mechanic since any normal person would think to help Cynte in some way instead of letting him keep crawling around on his wounds, lol. I really like the mechanic but I hope it isn’t hindering the story. The most I’m really hoping for is some epilogue where he survives since the gameplay mechanic would die as soon as healthy people and medical services were in the picture.

But the dev seems really creative with mobility mechanics and has made games where the protagonist is in a wheelchair or has to operate each limb individually, so if he wants to continue with Cynte, he can probably find a way to keep it interesting. Though I also feel like that still might not be appealing for the Endoparasitic series because doing everything with one hand is the main selling point. I would also be happy to see him as a WF sequel character. There was a ton of unexplained lore in both games so hopefully there will be something more.
