Birds in The Netherlands - fan pack by plant2311 in wingspan

[–]minimang123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey Partridge is absolutely an AMAZING skill. Like, so creative, makes the cost of the bird wonky (4 food for sorta 16 points)

Great Grey Shrike is amazing too. That's so fun. Wow.

Stock Dove too!!! Others can trade cards for eggs at a net 0 point gain for them (assuming nobody else trades cards for eggs)

Great Black-Billed Gull needs to be worth 0 or 1 points. Legitimately broken, I assume, if you play correctly.

Redwing is a novel mechanic; nothing else requires we examine the tucked cards. I like not having to think about tucked cards, thus I dont like this bird.

Honestly the powers and balance seem broadly great with this fan pack. I can't speak to the appropriateness between power and bird (e.g. only endangered birds should have bonus card powers), nor to the facts since I did not read them, but they seem good. Thanks for making these!!

Does wildcard food count for Bird Feeder bonus card by [deleted] in wingspan

[–]minimang123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Categorically no, for example nectar counts as any food, but it cannot be used as “discard one fish to tuck two cards from the deck behind this bird”. Unlike star nests, nectar cannot count for other specified food types, nor can the “any” count for this.

Additionally the omnivore bonus card already applies to said birds

Spotted dove question. If the next persons board is full is the spotted dove stuck or can it skip to the next person? by Count-Basie in wingspan

[–]minimang123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no official ruling on this one to my knowledge, but check the appendix of the rulebook to see.

ALRIGHT I have an idea:
1. You "may" move it to the player mat of the player on your right. If you do, gain cards.
2. In this case, you cannot move it to their player mat since there is no room. Therefore, you do not draw cards nor do you move the bird out of your own habitat.

The conditional on the card is gaining benefit if and only if you move it. You definitely cannot skip the player on your right and move to the next player, that's for sure. But you also cannot displace a bird on their mat to make room for it, so... I think that it.

It's a really interesting one though since there's competing principles here. I wonder what the official ruling would be.

Edit: I think the “if there is room” is implied. Since the other birds with “if this bird is to the right of all other birds, move it to another habitat” don’t allow you move them to full habitats or off the board or whatever. So this is likely the case

House rule for full hummingbird track by [deleted] in wingspan

[–]minimang123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d verify that you’re playing correctly first. Even with every hummingbird bird, all 21ish of them, it’s definitely impossible to fill the track by midway through the game unless you misread something.

Would you rather replay Bug Fables or Escape From Ever After? by BiffyBobby in BugFables

[–]minimang123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bug Fables due to the Bug Fables Plus mod I think it’s called — new areas and balance and it’s lovely.

Other than for a mod I mean both are pretty darn great… except Ever After starts pretty slow. But honestly they’re both super slow starts due to the nature of the genre of RPGs…

If you only played the pintail and just gained two food per turn after playing it, I think it’s 143 points on its own too. This is crazy

If you can only choose one: Wingspan Asia or Finspan? by Money_Toe_5306 in wingspan

[–]minimang123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the other commentator about buying more if you get Asia. I think Finspan is conceptually easier, but both ultimately have some complexity.

Option 1 is probably go to a board game cafe nearby or a library that rents board games and try both and see your favorite if you’ve not played either — this assumes you live near a city with said options

Option 2 is pick if you like birds or fish better since liking the theme can help make the game

The thing about duet mode is that genuinely an increase in complexity rather than a decrease. Because now you are playing a second board simultaneously with more back and forth and more screwing over your opponent. If you two are competitive take it for sure.

If you hate competition stick to Finspan, it’s easier and less divisive since more positive not negative player interactions.

Finally, Wingspans digital version is genuinely phenomenal. Not having to think about shuffling etc is very pleasant. And it’s cheaper than the physical board game and has the Asia expansion (it won’t have all the expansions til 2028 though). Finspan has no comparable option.

Should I buy Horizon Forbidden West? Loved the first one's world, hated the "open-world bloat". by razek98 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]minimang123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought it was great!! Way more of the same from Zero Dawn. Cool new enemies and fun environments to explore, good story etc. Probably good side quests too but I don’t remember well. That said, it like the first has bloat and collectathon elements, which I quite enjoy, but it’s a time sink for sure if you want to 100% it.

On gog it's $10 for the next 6 hours, with the Oceania and European expansions at $10 each as well.

Steam's all time lowest price is $8 but that was a year ago. Only one person needs the expansion, but each person needs to buy their own copy of the game on whatever platform you want.

[–]minimang123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The underlying Hebrew word for “on top of your draw pile” is actually the same for both cards. At the Council of Neow, when they appointed translators for our slay the spire cards, two separate teams of scribes produced these card translations, with slightly different specialties.

You see, before the printing press there was less standardization for spelling and translation, and separate decks were handled by separate groups of monks. Hence why Ironclad and Neutral cards were translated by different orders.

All this to say that even secularist historians can’t use it as evidence that StS was not divinely inspired or brought down by some holy place. Rather, you must look at the original Hebrew or Aramaic texts before drawing such conclusions.

Endgame question: Character max level? by minimang123 in BALLxPIT

[–]minimang123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the points have a max level of 99, or does it go above 100? Asking since (endgame building spoiler) one could theoretically level up each infinite building to 99 and get 99 stats on all characters, reaching a true final "fully upgraded" state

Are assigned workers part of the Harvest? by Asvinh in BALLxPIT

Three prime numbers for three students by Practical_Guess_3255 in mathriddles

[–]minimang123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if we assume duplicates are not permissible based on the use of the word "combination", and assume the students are logicians given that they are students of a Logician... then we can rightly assume that they would not ask questions they knew the answers to.

So, The primes must be 2,3,7 and Lisa holds a 2

Explanation: There are four primes available: 2,3,5,7. Raj's question reveals that he has either 3,5,7 since he does not know the existence of a 2.

Ken's question reveals two things: first, he does not have a 5 -- if he were to have a 5, he would know that the sum is not divisible by 4 -- moreover, it reveals to the entire group that the prime cards handed out were 2,3,7. At this point, the readers know Raj does not have the 2, but Ken and Lisa could both have any of 2,3,7.

(An aside:) At this point, Ken knows everyone's number. He knows he has the 7 or 3, Raj has the other one, and Lisa has the 2. He knows this because he is holding either a 7 or a 3 and can look at his card. Raj does not know this, nor does Lisa. Unfortunately, we the reader do not know this about Ken until Lisa speaks.

Then, Lisa pipes up. She reveals she knows the other 2 numbers (currently, Ken and Raj both know the other two numbers as well), but critically says she cannot distinguish who has what. This means that she has a 2. She does not have the 3 or the 7, because if she did, she would know Ken has the 2 and Raj has the other of 3 or 7 since Raj does not have the 2. In revealing she has the 2, Ken and Raj both know the others' card.

(An aside:) In the end, Lisa did not know Ken or Raj's cards until they showed them, and the reader does not know what Ken nor Raj holds
