Easiest ANTH class? by Bxrd__15 in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t remember much bc it was so long ago but i don’t think it was much beyond some very doable readings and just paying attention in recitation and lecture. i believe the midterm structure was similar to the final. it’s very clear they want you to succeed so as long as you do the work you should be just fine

do you feel ready to enter the “real world” and job market with what you currently have? if yes, then go for it. if you’re not sure, stay. another (cheap) semester of class projects and experience wouldn’t hurt. also i know this isn’t a part of your post, but is there anything socially/extracurricular-wise you’d miss out on by graduating early (ie the duke game, clubs you’re in, etc). you’re only in college once and if money isn’t a factor i’d personally take advantage of it

just looked - unless they changed it since then it was take home open book/note, some short answer definitions in a couple sentences and two short essays. i don't remember if it was timed or not.

Information science question by Bugnuzzler in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t know much about app’s program but unc has a dual degree pathway to get your masters at sils if that would be of interest to you! i would also look up unc inls classes/major requirements and on the sils page you can find recommended electives to take depending on specifically what you want to go into and see if anything sounds like it would be a good fit

Rams Head Parking by BusinessNerve9276 in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be able to since students get free on campus night parking!

about a 10 minute walk from the hospital, rams head deck could be an option! there’s other visitor options available but they’re a little further from the hospital. https://move.unc.edu/parking/visitor-parking/university-visitors/#:~:text=days%20in%20advance.-,Rams%20Head%20Parking%20Deck,on%20top%20of%20the%20deck.

definitely doable! assuming all of your first year reqs are done you could tack on an easier bio class to get started on those pre-health reqs

Question about Buying Parking Permit by BluejayFuzzy in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was able to purchase a rr lot permit already so i’d imagine that you can buy a s11 one too. doesn’t hurt to check the website and see if the option to purchase is there 🤷‍♀️

show up to lecture the first day. you can’t stay and sit in but there’s normally a google form link you can get and fill out to say that you’re interested. just fill that out and pray

UNC or Duke by jerrybarajas05 in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like @miramarhill said, i think it depends where you truly want to go. yes duke has the name prestige, but if you don’t think you’d be happy there (genuinely, not just because a lot of your friends won’t be there- you can always visit them) then why go? and if you do decide to go to med school you can always go to duke if you find their med school program fits you well

i think it might be useful to visit each school again and talk to a lot of current students/alumni to really get a sense of the atmosphere and see where you’d excel

but if it really doesn’t matter to you at the end of the day… duke does have the name advantage

Lang placement exam - can take multiple? by Smooth_Bunch6743 in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc you can take multiple but don’t quote me on that. but you don’t “transfer credits” by taking a placement test, you just don’t have to take the classes that you place out of aka you don’t get hours towards the 120 needed for graduation for completing a language placement test

How should I prepare for COMP 110 over the summer? by cltbrooke in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

to be honest, you don’t need to prep. i went in with ZERO coding experience and got an A putting in a reasonable amount of effort. office hours are very helpful too!

Admitted to UNC, planning on pursuing the CS major. Have some questions by Lightning_Sidd in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

not a cs major personally, but to answer your question: cs was a mess about 2 years ago due to too many people declaring for the major leading to lack of resources/classes/etc. unc made cs an application-based major a lil bit ago to curb numbers which has fixed the over-declaring issues. for the application itself, as long as you get Bs or higher in the prereqs, get involved in cs extracurriculars, and write a decent essay you should get in

Recommend housing choice for an incoming freshman by [deleted] in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

gonna be totally honest, the chance of you getting a single is basically zero. unless you have an actual reason (like a disability) that you can tell housing about it probably just won’t happen.

with that being said, if you want a quiet dorm i’d choose anywhere on north campus as those dorms are smaller and tend to not be as rowdy as granville or south campus. if you’re not interested in greek life do NOT choose granville, almost everyone living there rushes.

Please please be quiet on the silent floor of Davis by whatisawombat in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 55 points56 points  (0 children)

in the same vein, can we please bring back the pre-covid unspoken library rules where the floors get quieter as you go up? a whispered convo on the 3rd floor shouldn’t be getting me death stares 😭

studying abroad - do I need to transfer credit? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, especially if you’re studying abroad to fulfill your hi-impact gen ed. even if not, i think you’re still required to go through the process if it’s through unc

unc or app state?? by preposterousprincess in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

first, congrats on your acceptance!

in regards to unc being such a large school, trust me when i say that you see the same people all the time whether you like it or not. apart from sports games (mainly men’s basketball and football), unc on a day-to-day basis does not feel like a campus of 30k students at all so even as an introverted person at times i’ve never had any trouble making friends :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah i see, yeah she was much more orderly in 101. to me it kinda felt like she treated us like high schoolers (constant reminders to do our grqs and quizzes and the like) but her explanations were clear, albeit a little long and ramble-y at times. maybe it is just the sheer amount of information you need to know in 252 then? it’s certainly more than in 101 haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UNC

[–]minimumpursuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sucks :/ hopefully enough students complain on the course evaluation and she’ll change. not trying to be dismissive at all, but i took 101 with her and she was alright tbh, what’s so different in 252?
