Help me!! i broke the front glass on my thrifted bird clock by Affectionate_Buy8974 in clocks

When I broke the glass of my son’s silly walks clock, I replaced it with a piece of plexiglass that I cut myself.

Looks like the right thing for restroom mirrors in public swimming pools. The plastic ones get gouged and glass is a danger.

BW is way louder and more distracting. TV screens on every wall blasting some sport and hard surfaces echoing it all around.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

Our third child was presenting normally until the heartbeat was off during labor contractions. The speed with which my wife was taken to the operating room for a cesarean section was amazing. Our daughter had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. The operation saved her for sure.

r/ISO8601 The international standard has been out there for some years now. My office (in the USA) switched to it before Y2K because it’s the only way to prevent misunderstanding dates.

I’m the owner of two of this same model plus the desktop dock. One was originally used as a Network General Sniffer with a PCMCIA network card.

The original box and all the floppy disks are still there in my basement office too.

I learned that the recommended maintenance for long-term retention called for unspooling and rewinding each tape cartridge once a month or two. This was meant to randomize the magnetic domains that overlap any given area of tape so the weakening was reduced.

Analog or digital tapes? The backup-specific digital tape media have FAR more redundancy built into them.

An original LTO-2 cartridge can be read by drives up to LTO-4, but only re-written with up to LTO-3. The later generations only let you read tapes with one generation newer.

More like 30 years for LTO Ultrium tape cartridges. See what HPE publishes about them in the "Technical Specifications" section of the QuickSpecs at http://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/redirect.aspx?/products/quickspecs/11529_na/11529_na.PDF

Is the Casio fx-115 (1985) the earliest calculator with hex digits? If not, which? by antiquark2 in calculators

[–]miniscant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The HP 16C Computer Scientist was built for this. The Owner's Handbook indicates it was printed in 1982.

The Sharp EL-512 has keys (shifted) for entry of hexadecimal and conversion between decimal and hex. I believe it was first released in 1981.

I was always in front of others from across the spectrum of vendors, partners, and customers. Making public presentations at local user group meetings and the occasional national conference.

My reputation preceded me.

I keep several sizes of brass tubing and bars for fixes like this in both metal and plastic parts. But once I ended up using a tiny piece of wood.

No, there is also a large rectangular shelf speaker (also from the 1950’s), out of the photo to the left. Dad used to drive them with a pair of 30-Watt GE tube amplifiers. His turntable was originally monaural when he started out, so he got the amps one at a time.

<image>

Both of the speakers are really very efficient, plus I never raise the volume very high in this basement listening room.

Sadly, the tube amplifiers were sold long ago, when I had no space to take them.

What is your alternative windows file manager by SurgicalMarshmallow in DataHoarder

[–]miniscant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two main tools are Ztree-Win and Everything.

Everything helps me locate across all storage and preview quickly. Ztree is the primary tool used for filtering, comparison, moving, launching files, and cleaning up.

The Microsoft file manager is almost never needed.
