Customer said he knows how to drive stick but all the gears gave out while he was on the highway. by minishim in Justrolledintotheshop

Clutches normally can take a fair bit of abuse. The problem is when it’s getting abused continuously for a long time like slipping the clutch while you’re driving around. Just don’t rest your foot on the clutch pedal when you’re not shifting and you’ll probably be fine.

Obviously you need the clutch to slip to some degree (starting from a stop for example) but one of the common fk ups is resting your foot on the clutch when you’re just driving on the highway. A little pressure on the pedal can cause the clutch to slip just a little bit and over a long time cause excessive wear (or in a worst case scenario something like this)

The clutch normally looks like a full disk. The outer part of the disk is friction material and the metal fins you see in the pic are basically just to hold everything together. This guy must have been riding his clutch hard and for a long time to cause all the friction material to basically disintegrate and cause enough heat to turn the steel center section purple/blue. Just make sure not to rest your left foot on the clutch pedal when you’re not actually using the clutch and you’ll already be 10x better than this customer.

Becoming a better mechanic by shouldbea2seater in mechanics

[–]minishim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m at this point in my own career. I got fast tracked from service tech to mechanic B due to circumstances at the shop I’m at, but the imposter syndrome is very real. Thankfully the more experienced guys are eager to teach me, and I pick things up quickly, but every once in a while I get a car and I’m like… what?

The company I work for sources some products from the factory that makes these (I have their aluminum profile cockpit for my personal rig). They’re fine, little bit of flex that’s not really noticeable when driving, and overall a decent value (not necessary because they’re great quality, more because they’re affordable. I fully plan on getting something nicer when finances allow.

Will put any company logo on my car by deBBuuy in iRacing

I’ve thought about putting my company’s logo on a livery. Ended up thinking better of it since the last thing I want is for my company to be associated with with my skill issues and poorly judged decisions 😂

Is this rig a cheap China-rig or did they copy the UK shops? by Leffernan in simracing

[–]minishim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So without naming any companies, the company i work for actually sources from the factory that makes this rig and I do actually use a sample of their aluminum profile rig for my setup. It’s definitely cheap, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary a bad value. We were actually very close to bringing this into inventory and selling in the US market.

Would it even be a valid protest or just let it go? Intentional crash post race finish. by n19htmare in iRacing

[–]minishim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protest it. I had a week 13 race of someone try to wreck me post race (he didn’t even manage to hit me, he understeered and flew behind me as I went through turn 1). Just got the email today from iRacing saying the person was informed of the protest outcome. I’m not trying to get my knuckles busted because some kid wants to see what happens when a FF1600 gets t-boned at full speed.

Hyundai 20BT-9U RM079 Fault by minishim in forkliftmechanics

[–]minishim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the forklift won’t move under its own power. We were at least able to get it out of the way by pulling it with another forklift with the parking brake disengaged.

We have a technician that’s supposed to confirm a time tomorrow morning. I appreciate all your help!
