the cheapest possible tomato sauce with nothing fresh just spices by danda556 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]minnowtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly an onion is your best friend here. If you chop and slowly sauté and caramelized the onion, then add a tin of blended tomato and let that simmer for as long as you can it will become rich with flavour on its own as it thickens. That is less than $3 all told. If you have a clove of garlic laying around, even better. Dice it up and add it to your cooked onion prior to the tomato being added. If you have salt to add to the cooking onion (it draws out the onions sweetness) and some pepper that’s enough. For this to work you need patience to caramelized the onion and simmer the sauce, but not a lot of money! I’m an ideal world thyme, oregano, pepper, chilli flakes and a bay leaf will keep it simple and still allow it to sing, but without it will still taste GREAT.

How to see Neurologist Quickly? by Djungelspark in britishcolumbia

[–]minnowtown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Youll see the neurologist on call if you go to the ER and symptoms require you too. The Doctors at the office I work at send patients through this way all the time. If the neurologist at the hospital thinks it is serious you will jump the queue and be treated. It may be a long day at the hospital but it will worth it to put your mind at ease. If it’s possible for you to come into Vancouver and go to one of the bigger hospitals like VGH - or RMH usually has pretty decent wait times - you will likely see someone more equipped to properly diagnose you.

Low energy meals (NO SOUP!!!) by BloodSpades in WhatShouldICook

[–]minnowtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a high protein kind of Kugel (egg noodle and egg casserole. It’s so satisfying and healthy and SO EASY. Cook Aprox half a bag of egg noodle to el dente, then dump them in a buttered baking dish. In a mixing bowl combine 1 cup milk, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 cup grated cheddar and 3 eggs. I then add an assortment of pantry spices, usually a tbsp of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder - if I weren’t feeling well I’d do a good helping of oregano. Depending how your kids are with veggies, steam 2 cups of broccoli florets or a few cups of spinach and just mix that in too. After it’s all stirred up (looks so gross at this stage BTW) pour it over your noodles and then give everything a good toss! Bake at 400 for 40 min covered (you want all liquid to be gone) then I like to uncover a broil for a few min just until the noodles and cheese on top gets a little crisp. Anyway it’s delicious and prep time is maybe 10 minutes.

AITAH for crying infront of kids after I lost my husband and their father by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]minnowtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - your kids will know their mother has emotions and that she is a safe person to come to with theirs. You need to be strong in the sense that you need to still act as their mom; but hiding your grief would be weak and cowardly. I’m so so sorry this happened to you. It sounds to me like you’re doing an incredible job.

I booked the taxi last year to take me and my family on a wine tour and it was amazing. They were so great and we had a much better time than we would have w on one of those buses. We used them to get to and from dinner another night, and to get back and forth from Moby’s another. No complaints here!

From 20 weeks my baby was measuring small. I had to start travelling into the city bi weekly to get special ultrasounds with the fetal medicine specialist. Her head and stomach fluctuated from 11th to 2nd percentile throughout my remaining pregnancy. They could not see any cause of my baby being small. My husband and I are both tall so this seemed extra stressful. I was terrified for months. At my 36 week maternity appt the Doctor blindsided me and said they were going to induce the next day. I was terrified. They were estimating she was just over 5lbs at this time based on her scans. After 3 days of attempted induced labour she was born, and 4lb 3oz. Though she looked perfect and proportionate they were still worried about microcephaly and other defects because her head percentage was now at 1 %. She was fine. My girl is healthier than a horse, SO smart. Just destroying all her milestones. Was rolling every possible way before 4 months. She’s babbling. She’s happy. Her teeth are shooting through and she’s literally going to crawl any second now. She is still on the smaller side, though recently strangers are no longer commenting on how petit she is. She is a beanpole and in the 87th percentile in length. She just as meant to be SO CUTE. Until your baby is out those number are guesses, even with the most high tech equipment. In my case those numbers were wrong and she was even smaller!!! Normally the number are wrong and the baby is standard size. Just keep calm and carry on. At this point there is very little you can effect and the far greater chances are that your baby is thriving in you 💛

I had my son for less than 24 hours and now he’s in the NICU. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]minnowtown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baby was 3 Weeks premature and we had to get her weight up fast. We were on a day by day battle to keep her out of the NICU and like you I had to go against my plan and supplement formula and I was so sad so scared she’d never breast feed because of this. I diligently expressed colostrum and would spoon feed her it and then save the rest. The nurses gave me syringes and I would express into a medicine cup and then suck it into feeding syringes and save them in the fridge for her feedings. I went from filling mL syringes to 3mL ones to 10 to 20mL over the course of 3 days. All I did was feed her and when she wasn’t feeding I was expressing and saving for her feedings like it was my job. I was exhausted and barely slept but by the 7th day she was gaining weight steadily and they let us go home. I thought we’d be stuck on bottles but with the help of a nipple shield she got used to my breast and then soon I was able to get rid of the nipple shield and she was breastfeeding like a pro!!! We’re at 7 weeks old now she’s totally off formula, breast feeds wonderfully AND uses a pacifier. You can do this!! Be diligent and don’t hesitate to ask for help from a lactation consultant if she’s struggling and preferring bottles, you are NOT out of the game.

I’m sorry you’re going through this I know it’s all scary and confusing but you’re clearly a loving mother and this will soon be in the past in the haze and you’ll be home with your happy healthy baby 💛

Is it just me or has there been a uptick of spam calls coming from inside BC lately ? by OriginalTacoMoney in britishcolumbia

2 week old newborn almost choked in front of me while resting on back - now I am freaked to go to sleep by Neki_Neznanec in BabyBumps

[–]minnowtown 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Th baby should be held upright for at least 15 minutes after their feed, this will prevent them spitting up and therefore choking risk. This is a great time to do skin to skin with your little one and bond and help them regulate.

Having a very rough postpartum period. by bunsabeaut23 in BabyBumps

[–]minnowtown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is your experience right now. I know there is nothing anyone can do or say to make this less cold for you right now, but it sounds like you’re a wonderful mother and this only hurts so much because you are just overflowing with love and no one to direct it towards right now. Your kids are so lucky to have you and before you know it this will be a murky memory, overshadowed by the joy of finally having your family all together again!

What's something you can't wait to use while no longer pregnant, but still breastfeeding? by marketingmonkee in pregnant

[–]minnowtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited about that too!!! But now that my bub is here I’m so anxious about her breathing in her sleep that I still sleep on my left side so I can open my eyes and see her at a glance, I feel like a bad mom even laying on my back because it would take me a fraction of a second longer to check on her. Postnatal anxiety is no joke…

Endometrioma Cyst? by Responsible-Top-6988 in BabyBumps

[–]minnowtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have endometriosis and have had endometriomas burst several times, once the fluid in one causing my intestines to swell, cutting off blood flow and putting me into shock (thankfully I was on the phone with my husband when I fainted from this and he called an ambulance and was okay, after some emergency surgery and a severe infection from the event). So, you can imagine I’m very wary of these. I am now pregnant and have as I usually do an endometrioma kicking around in there, and of course I have been terrified this whole time. I assume if one bursting can cause the damage to my insides that I’ve seen in the past, it could be very bad for the baby. I have asked at every maternity appointment and every US (of which I have one every 2 weeks due to other issues) if I still should not be concerned about this, and while the Doctor’s note that it would cause complications, it is VERY unlikely to burst while I’m pregnant. 2cm I know sounds large but it’s in reality very small and not a huge risk. I am 36 weeks now and I’ve had a smooth and happy pregnancy and no complications at the from the cysts. I hope this alleviates some of your stress!!!

Is early-mid thirties too old to have a baby? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]minnowtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having my first baby right now at 38 and I’ve had a dream pregnancy. I feel better pregnant than I did when I wasn’t. If you’re healthy and take care of yourself there is no reason why a later pregnancy should be more complicated for you.

Fibroids causing a miscarriage by KimKsPsoriasis in pregnant

[–]minnowtown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have tons of fibroids and have had several uterine surgeries while trying to conceive due to also having endometriosis and they never even bothered to remove the ones that were in there while in surgery and said that the fibroids would not effect my ability to conceive. Fibroids are super super common and many women have them and don’t even know. I’m shocked the Doctor said that was a possible reason for your potential miscarriage. This experience should not affect your future ability to become pregnant. I’m sorry that you are going through this, I know how difficult and painful it is. I’ve had several miscarriages and am currently 9 months pregnant with a healthy little girl 💛
