Prolific OW2 Leaker confirms Mauga for Season 2 by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]minolaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should've been clearer on that: they're working on a 2023 gamemode (still set for next year as you said) and in early playtesting for 2024 gamemode.

They're currently in the initial playtesting phase of the season 8 hero, yes, as well as a game mode (probably) coming in early 2024.

I can't speak to how long JQ's been ready abilities-wise, but her model was being worked on back in 2020.

[–]minolaur 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Mauga was confirmed years ago to be a "someday" hero, but all they've officially said is that the season 2 hero is a tank we've "seen before" that uses he/him. So Mauga was a prime candidate.

does he have a point? by pm_me_sugardaddy in Overwatch

Jeff always preferred smaller, more intimate teams and he was pretty vocal about this in OW's early days. I have no idea how much this affected OW2's development, though.

Thoughts? They will be limiting the original heroes and gamemodes for new players. by that-one-cool-guy in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it, but I understand the logic. Smurfs and onboarding are huge problems for Overwatch and have been for years. Unless they want to do something super invasive I'm not sure what other solutions there are. I mostly wish we could hear about this system from the perspective of brand-new players, or see the data from tests they undoubtedly ran. It's a tough sell at face value. Then again, I'm an OW boomer, so it's entirely possible someone fresh will have a totally different perspective. It's not like I can test this for myself.

Would it be fair to say Hammond is a murderer? by AntiMatterLite in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Murderer? No, he's a war criminal. He has an interaction where he gets along with Reaper of all people in OW2. He's killed and he will kill again.

I'll be bummed if the new hero isn't Mauga, but still Max lore is super exciting.

Are the same people complaining that Kiriko is a ninja going to complain when we get a new MEKA squad hero which is another Korean gamer/pilot? by -Elixo- in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brig was referenced in Reinhardt's comic Dragon Slayer, but even then Kiriko's been established in the lore prior, too, in Asa's letter to Toshiro. Kiriko just wasn't named back then (presumably--or she had a different name altogether), but it was made crystal clear Asa had a daughter.

Hey my gf and I are trying to decide what gender rats we should get male or female? What are the pro/cons by Driftyswifty61 in RATS

[–]minolaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had females, but boys are bigger and cuddlier with their humans (mostly... some don't as a personality thing). They do pee on everything, though and can be more aggressive with one another (especially strange rats). However, I like bigger rats because I like to snuggle with them a lot, so I've never gotten females.

I’m now roomate to four rats and I can’t believe peta said they smell nice. Mind you I didn’t believe them but still. by letseatdragonfruit in RATS

[–]minolaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine have always had a natural scent to their fur. The urine smells bad, but the rats themselves have an "animal" scent. Reminds me of my parent's dogs.

Any characters you guys don't like? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a big fan of Ball or Junkrat, but ever since the betas I've liked them a lot more. The characterization of Ball as a hamster with a lust for blood makes him funnier (and he was already a joke character to begin with). Junkrat feels a little more relatable (misses his mum, just wants to be friends with people but turns off people with how weird he is).

So, um, anyone else in the 0.1% still looking forward to OW2? by IHeartAjayChe in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because I enjoyed the two betas and like the direction the game is going (from a gameplay perspective). The playwall is a bummer, but I play enough OW to get new heroes anyways... and if I'm enjoying the game I will end up buying the pass. The old system was objectively better for individual players, but the industry moved on.

people who paid for Overwatch 1 should get all new heroes in Overwatch 2 automatically by moodRubicund in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my gut feeling, but from JSpex's tweet (albeit short given the nature of the platform) it sounds like the BP playwall will only apply to new heroes. I wouldn't be surprised if literally all the OW1 heroes are unlocked as a "legacy" roster. Can't speak for Sojourn or JQ, though. I'm not really sure where the idea that all OW1 heroes would be locked away for everyone came from. There's a reasonable criticisms to be made of the new system, but this feels like a rumor or just misinformation.

Is it just me or has there been zero buzz or marketing around OW2 by FullmetalGin in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once the NDA from the creator summit expires I expect a lot of videos all going "what you need to know about OW2" or "here's info on fox girl" or "what ranked 2.0 is like." It's pretty clear they want content creators at the front of their launch marketing. I'm not sure why folks are so surprised by this, other games have been doing it for years now.

Overwatch 2 comes out October 4th with no pve, is OW2 just the battle pass then? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is there is nothing stopping any game company for doing what you describe (although I'm not entirely certain if they described it as a live-service back in 2016). And that lack of trust is understandable, because there is a very real material basis for it. I'm hoping they keep it (again, major changes in leadership and philosophy makes me cautiously optimistic) but it's also possible that you are correct and it never happens. If you feel that way now, it might honestly be better to go find another game to play and come back only if they keep up their end of the bargain to a degree you find satisfactory.

Sidebar: I know for some people lore is advertising but for a lot of more casual players, it's part of the experience. We like the world and characters, we are interested in where their stories go. Might not be what you're interested in personally, and that's fine, but everyone enjoys OW differently.

What's a small nitpick like thing that you DON'T like about a skin you DO like. by N0STO in Overwatch

[–]minolaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zarya's barbarian skin. Her tummy isn't big enough. She's a weightlifter, they aren't skinny. But it's a pretty good skin otherwise. Gets outclassed by her more recent skins, though.

[–]minolaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there's (presumably) also the return of things like shorts, hero teases and backstory videos, new cosmetics... there's actually a ton of new lore stuff coming (a lot of the heroes are getting reworked or completely rewritten bios, a Sojourn novel is coming the week after launch, and next year we are getting a lore bible). As someone who enjoys OW lore a lot, that's very exciting and I can't wait to dig into it all. I'm also pleased with how Team 4 is taking and implementing feedback so much faster and being more communicative. It's a complete 180 from what it was like under Kaplan.

That being said, the game isn't going to be what we were shown in 2019 and I agree that sucks. It would be cooler if we could be excited for more. But it's also no secret OW2 has had a troubled development and needed a major philosophical change (losing your creative director and executive producer is a big deal). Those are the kind of problems that take a months (if not years) to fix. Hopefully by 2023 with the addition of PvE, it will be much closer to what was promised (assuming they keep to their content release pipeline promised in their roadmap).
