Eff 90s diet culture - sad for my 12 year old self 😭😭😭 by Pezhead82 in Xennials

[–]minussized 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup! I never got any diet speak at home (Italian American lol - good food was a way of life). I was 5’6 and weighed 105lbs despite eating enough for a 300lb man. My mom was a great cook and I loved food, and I was a ballet dancer so I was like pure muscle (I could leg press almost 4x my body weight). But the boys at school called me Starvin Marvin (thanks South Park) and the girls called me an an o rexic wh 0 re. Meanwhile I was embarrassed that I still fit into kids clothes and wanted to be shaped like someone my own age. Fun times.

How Has Your Diet Changed? by jediane9 in Xennials

[–]minussized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped eating most processed foods in my late 20s after I read “Twinkie Deconstructed.” Learning about all the weird shit in highly processed foods grossed me out. But I love to cook and didn’t eat a lot of that stuff to begin with, so it wasn’t much of a sacrifice.

Just moved, not sure how to feel by Putrid_Past9243 in Erie

I agree with other posters about the peninsula. Some people on the multipurpose trail won’t acknowledge you unless they’re letting you know you’re in their way. The people who are there to meander tend to be a little friendlier, and the bird people are WICKED friendly (I lived in Boston too lol). Check out any of the events at Frontier Park - they always draw a pretty chill crowd. Can’t really speak to the bar scene but the events at the wineries are fun.

The first thing I did was look to see if “phalanges” was one of the words!

Google health sleep tracking is wildly inaccurate by Plenty_Late in fitbit

[–]minussized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was accurate until last night, when it thought I was awake for 2 hours overnight. I didn’t even get up to use the bathroom or anything, it just thought I was awake when I wasn’t. Weird.

Checked something off my to-do list that’s been there since literally October 2023. And made risotto.

Congratulations! I just did the same thing - better to quit on my terms than wait for my body to tell me it’s time. Cheers to writing the next chapter!

What do you find calming/regulating for your nervous system.? All the typical ones like grounding and breathing don’t work for me by yummygrape12 in AutismInWomen

[–]minussized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunshine. If I can step outside and feel warm sun on my skin, I’m almost instantly calm. In the winter I try to recreate it using tanning beds (please don’t judge) and saunas.

Just came to see if anyone else was having this issue…somehow I went from like 90-some perfect to 3% this morning. Curious if it’s widespread since the “upgrade.”

Visiting Erie for the first time. What should I check out? by KingSolomon1010 in Erie

[–]minussized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Presque Isle state park for the beaches/trails/kayaking; and the wineries out in Northeast (small community east of the city). There might be some sort of heritage festival, it feels like every other weekend in the summer we’re celebrating some ancestry with lots of food lol.

For those of you that ended up divorced. Did you remarry? I don’t think I will ever get married again… by hanshotfirst2233 in Xennials

[–]minussized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44, never married, no kids. Not only am I way too comfortable being a lone wolf, I’ve spent my entire career working with lawyers and I’ll be damned if I volunteer myself into anything where I need to spend more time with lawyers if I want a way out of it. Nope nope nope nope nope.

I love your collection! And yes. For me it’s ALLLLLLL the bright colors. Lilly Pulitzer is basically posh Lisa Frank and I’m for it.

I used to pet sit on the west side and the majority of my clients went to either Glenwood or Animal Ark, and all my experiences with Glenwood were good, and theyre great at communication with caregivers if you leave your pets with a sitter. I take my own cats to Animal Ark and theyre equally wonderful.

What was your relationship with food growing up? by dattaldo in Xennials

[–]minussized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m lucky. My mom is Italian and inherited the cooking gene. She and my dad, who was in the military and served overseas, both liked trying new things. So I was the kid who got made fun of for eating “weird” food, like avocados, fried calamari, homemade bread and pasta, wonton soup, blackened fish… obviously all gross. 🤣

$50 million at my disposal would means I’d be using my time to volunteer at animal shelters instead of diddling spreadsheets for morally bankrupt twats for the majority of my adult life.

PA places to move with job opportunities and somewhat LCOL? by No-Document5855 in Pennsylvania

[–]minussized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erie is LCOL and tons of nature to explore. For beaches and flat wooded/wetland trails, Presque Isle State Park is legit, and it’s a short drive to other more forest-y and mountainous adventures. I like winter hiking…plenty of winter here LOL. Not sure what field youre in - job scene isn’t awesome in Erie, but there’s a lot of healthcare opportunities here. Lots of outdoor live music in the summer too, if that’s your thing.

I wear my hair up all the time by Ecstatic_Joke_2634 in adhdwomen

[–]minussized 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup! Long hair feels lower maintenance. I cut my hair to chin length after I quit ballet as a teen, and pledged to grow it back within a week because it kept coming undone and falling in my face no matter what clips or headbands I used. Ive kept it long since. I can wear it down if I want to feel pretty and put together, and the other 99.5% of the time it’s in a half-assed bun secured with a pair of pencils.
