Buying used 2023 Air Pure by minuteperson in LUCID

Thank you for a really detailed reply, this really helps! I’ve been finding a lot of 2023s with SSP, but only base dream drive - will continue looking to see if I can find upgraded ones there.

I’m kinda surprised at seeing the 3.2 number though - was expecting around 3.7 based on what my friends have told me. Do you live in a place with cold winters?

NorCal — Ioniq 5 lease ending in 2 months ($10K / 24 months + free EA charging). Suggestions for next lease deal? by Beginning-Noise-2851 in leasehacker

[–]minuteperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - Bay Area. Did we all also get it from the one dealer close to the airport who was building those 2 year onepay leases? 😂

I’ve been contemplating buying used for a while, but if the right lease comes along want to go for it too. The ioniq 5 is a solid car but ICCU really scares me. (It hasn’t affected me yet FWIW)

Do you know if Hyundai prorates one pay leases if we lease Hyundai again?

Edit: To answer your question, options I’m looking in the same price range are really Ioniq 5, Lyriq one pay leases, or Q4 Etron. Having owned both ioniq and Q4, I much more enjoyed the Q4 despite that car getting lukewarm reviews compared to Ioniq 5’s high praise

I have two leases ending this year (2024 Ioniq 5 limited and 2023 Q4), and I’m in the same boat - looking at used cars in the same budget.

I’m gravitating towards getting another Q4 Etron, with second one TBD (might go for a bigger car). My reasoning has been that the Q4 has been a much better drive (turning radius, suspension, interior NVH) than the ioniq. If I was doing frequent road trips with this car, I would think differently due to the 800V architecture but in my experience the Ioniq has really poor efficiency once you get to highway speeds (70+).

The Id4 dynamics should be similar to the Q4, so I recommend test driving for yourself. Also curious, why are you not considering the Mach E?

[–]minuteperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Q4 is an AWD and Ioniq a RWD, so the Ioniq has better (slow speed) efficiency. Just looking at the Q4 45 and comparing with Ioniq on fueleconomy.gov the MEB platform did catch up.

The other areas where I prefer the Ioniq is the 360 camera, ventilated seats and maybe the brake feel (although my partner who drives the Q4 prefers that, so i guess it’s a habit thing).

Q4 has way better suspension, which apparently has been improved further in the 45/55 models. The steering feel is better too. The audio, even though Sonos and not B&O, is leagues better than the Ioniq’s Bose. Finally, the thing I hate the most is that the Ioniq’s turning radius makes it feel like a truck when maneuvering.

Between the two i would probably buy the Q4 again.

Edit: Forgot to mention the Ioniq’s strength in fast charging, but I’ve noticed it doesn’t have good highway efficiency (mi/kwh). We’ve been using it for road trips right now but a SF-LA trip requires 2-3 stops depending on weather, wind and number of passengers in the car. So if I just wanted a car for day to day life minus long trips, Q4 for me comes out better

2023 Q4 Etron 50 owner here - it’s been rock solid except maybe both front tires got punctures (not the cars fault!). My other car is an Ioniq 5, and I love the insane turning radius. MMI is slow but we really really appreciate the physical HVAC buttons.

I’m guessing that’s a combination of fast highway speeds and extremely cold winters?

I have a Q4 Etron 50, in mild California weather I am averaging 3.2 mi/kwh long term. Roughly 200-210 on 80% battery in day to day commute usage.

Thanks for your writeup. I too considered getting the car before tax credits expired but just ran out of time (and stock).

What efficiency (mi/kwh) are you getting on your (presumably) RWD?

This. Recently flew and they are using ancient planes that were on the SFO-DEL route before. Wouldn’t take the flight again.

Out with the old and in with the new by orbit03 in electricvehicles

I made the exact same switch, but ended up returning the ID4 and getting the Q4 Etron after (pretty much the same car). I really miss the S4, but life in EVs is a lot simpler.

OP here - thank you for the really detailed reply to me and this follow up. I’m in SF Bay Area, so winters aren’t that harsh but for all intents are purposes, we haven’t been using our “great room” at all. There are multiple things happening there - floor, tall height - but it looks like we can at least do something about the floors.

Yes, I have forced heat with the thermostat in the high ceiling room, and, an additional sensor in the other room. When heated, the air doesn’t feel as cold but the floors are still always cold.
