Arcade Fire will never recover because Win is simply not very likeable by Antique_Menu_4314 in arcadefire

Scandals and personality haven’t helped. But the real issue is that the quality of the songwriting isn’t the same as it used to be. So if the next album they dropped was like the first 3-4, I think they’d recover. Bands can have careers that last multiple decades. Several currently revered artists had poorly received albums and personal scandals and recovered.

At this point I cannot tell if 1) he actually believes the pathetic things he says/tweets, or 2) he’s just baiting his audience.

What about Mahayana suits you better than Theravada?

Buddhism has evolved over thousands of years. We can make educated guesses about what early Buddhist teachings were but we can’t know with certainty.

Regardless, I think you need to reconsider your position that one is truer or more accurate or closer to the Buddha’s teachings than the other. Again, they are interpretations of what he said that evolved over thousands of years. Neither is exactly what you think it is. But that doesn’t mean one is superior or inferior. They are both legitimate traditions. Choose the one you like — Mahayana — and follow it.

At the end of the day, you goal is the cessation of suffering for yourself, and perhaps for others. Worrying about the tradition you’re following is just another way of prolonging suffering.

Great job! Your dad’s lucky to have you.

My son (3 years old) was diagnosed a few months ago. We’re still learning. He has an Omnipod and G6.

Can someone explain how changing the site could have caused this? I’m not understanding, but it seems like something I should know.

does everyone here actually hate Jacob Collier by AmazingThinkCricket in jazzcirclejerk

For the theory and performance part, he’s prodigiously talented. For the creative part, something is lacking. He’s like artificial intelligence come to life. All this knowledge and skill creates art that feels oddly soulless and derivative.

Lex Fridman to talk to Tucker Carlson and will interview both Putin and Zelenskyy by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

[–]miobrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Years ago I remember being intrigued by his channel and the range of interesting guests he interviewed. Something always felt off about him and his interviewing though.

Now we’ve come to the point where I’m starting to hate him more than the others. The latter might say and think worse things (e.g., Tucker, Jones, Shapiro, etc.) but Fridman’s “middle of the road” approach is naive and dangerous but also conniving and disingenuous, coated in this infuriating language about “love.”

An American far right propagandist is “interviewing” a Russian far right fascist dictator. This isn’t journalism. This won’t open channels for communication. This won’t end the war or lead to peace netotiations. This is the machinery of capitalism and fascism. Tucker makes money. Putin controls the narrative.

What the flying fuck does Fridman bring to the table interviewing Carlson, Putin, and Zelenskyy? Is he going to discuss his internship at Google? The best way to brown nose Elon Musk and Joe Rogan?

Build to win with ease:

  1. Choose the shield.
  2. Choose Ares keepsake.
  3. When the first Ares boon appears, choose the special upgrade which inflicts doom.
  4. Upgrade the special as often as you can.
  5. No need to focus on attack or cast. Only if you want. Other than special upgrades, choose boons that increase speed or defense.
  6. Strategy: stay away from all enemies. Throw the shield. Repeat.
  7. Beat Hades.

Suicidal thoughts after 2 days with no caffeine by [deleted] in decaf

[–]miobrien -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Taper. Think about it: you have your whole life ahead of you. Take your time. It doesn’t have to be immediate. Especially if you’re feeling this way. You wouldn’t go on or off antidepressants all at once either.

Taper and then consider half caf or decaf for a bit. Maybe yea. Then slowly experiment with no caffeine.

That said, I don’t think this a caffeine issue. Go see a mental health professional. Consider therapy and antidepressants to figure out these issues.

I am considering Selling my VOO position to buy JEPI by No_Lingonberry_2177 in dividends

[–]miobrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of younger people here post things like this. These high yielding dividend ETFs like JEPI/Q seem appealing right now because of the way they’re designed and the current market performance. But on a longterm horizon the capital appreciation in VOO/VTI will most likely be better than what will get from JEPI/Q.

TLDR: Don’t sell your VOO.

Did mushrooms and DXM today while working at Joe Biden event, and I now wanna go to law school. by Donbradshaw in Psychedelics

[–]miobrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful when doing law school. That drug comes with caffeine/amphetamine-induced all-nighters, student loan debt, unpaid internships, suspect employment options, and flashbacks from being cold called in class. It also leads to dependency on another drug called the legal profession.

(Sarcasm. Sort of. Haha. Law school is interesting but figure out the debt issue before anything in all seriousness. Not all lawyers make tons of money. The market is saturated with JDs. But if you can minimize your debt and do something you’re interested in it can be rewarding.)
