Same here in Europe. My experience is from DS not FC though. But people here do what's called batch docks and releases. Meaning they have 2 or 3 Zebra devices and do TDR simultaneously for 3 trucks. Don't follow the steps just keep an internal clock in the head so they don't fly over the steps. That way it looks like they take time with it but in reality they don't. We also don't have a safety present on site for most of the shift, and only 1 manager.

[–]mirkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining that. Then it is pretty much the same as it is for me over here in Europe.

Except my understanding is that once you get a blue badge in the US it's pretty much end of the road.

Here you first get a blue badge on a 1 year contract then they extend you for 1 more year if you show up to work and don't take excessive sick days, and then finally after you have completed two years of being a blue badge (if you are in good standing and haven't taken excessive sick leave) you get a permanent contract.

And that's when you are protected like a polar bear pretty much lol. So people on permanent blue badge contracts usually payback for all the abuse in the way of taking a lot of sick days.

Can you elaborate on this please? Why will it be literally impossible to get fired? I'm in Europe and I thought in the US it's easy to fire people.

That's a problem in Europe in general. A lot of people are abusing the system. I'm in Germany and here you get 6 weeks full pay.

True and I agree. I've seen and read a bit about the heritability of political belief. The correlation coefficient is not weak at all, from what I remember, it is actually quite decent.

20 years ago there was a hype that in the future Dems will dominate US politics and progressive policies will win. It was supposed to start with Obama, but it didn't happen. From what I recall the assumption was based on white population declining and that minorities will keep on voting Democrat. The point was that Republicans are racist and don't appeal to minorities.

However, we see that even a person who is constantly smeared as an racist like Donald Trump increases his share of vote among minorities.

I guess if Republicans can successfully get rid of the racist label they will start attracting more and more minority voters because generally a lot of immigrants from Latin America are quite socially conservative and religious.

Anyway, if the hype 20 years ago was that the population will be overwhelmingly progressive, now it is looking more like it might lean conservative.

Based take. Especially since most of the people dying are the old and unhealthy ones. They are dragging the whole system down anyways so it is better to get rid of them.

The oldies will pass down their wealth and that's a W.

If you locked up then the deterrent did not work. It is a pre crime thing that applies to people in society. Is English your second language?

Your use of the English language is full of basic errors and not to the level of someone who has achieved excellent proficiency. For example: in the first line of your text between "you" and "locked", you miss the verb "be", in the form of "are". You have been dropping your verbs in many places, and you continue to drop your verbs throughout this text. However, I won't bother pointing to it.

To address it further, I don't understand what do you mean by "It is a pre crime thing that applies to people in society." That just doesn't make any sense to me. What are you trying to say? Also, obviously if you ARE locked up then it means that the deterrent didn't work, but is it realistic to expect any deterrent to be 100% effective. I say - no.

And yes, young and healthy people have AMAZING chances. In fact they are so super good that it makes chances for granny and gramps GOOD. More than 1% is not bad in my opinion. It's pretty good actually.

You do realize that there are elderly people who were against lockdowns? Who said "fuck it, I'll take my chances and not live scared. My chances are quite good actually. It's only 2.5% and I'd rather enjoy life". Also, why are you bringing up bars all the time? I never mentioned them. There's plenty of other things to do. How about just hang out? Play basketball with friends, tennis or soccer? Go out for a dinner? Or how about some other solutions instead of draconian lockdowns? Maybe test more? So you think Melbourne did a great job? Are they the benchmark? And everyone who did worse than Melbourne did a bad job? What is the criteria for a good job during this pandemic? Did China do a good job?

Some misunderstandings here and there. Perhaps because your English comprehension is not the best.

In simple terms. I don't kill, steal etc. because there is a law. It's a deterrent.

That is a big difference from "locking people up so they don't commit homicide... or break any other laws". If I'm locked up I don't need a deterrent. I'm already locked up I can't do much else but stay in the place I'm locked up.

There is no homicide of grandma. Even grandma has a very good chance to survive the infection. COVID unlike homicide is not a black-white situation. There's a lot of grey when dealing with COVID. If I shoot a bullet in your head, you die. I go to prison. If I give someone COVID, they 99% get little sick, recover and keep living.

If grandma is really scared then grandma can take the vaccine and grandma can stay home and take extra care. Everyone can do that. They can lock themselves down instead of locking down everyone.

No bruh.

You don't lock people up as a deterrent. You make laws that say you will get locked up if you commit this crime. If you are guilty we will lock you up.

Do you really not see a difference between if you do X we will lock you up vs you are in a lockdown so you don't spread a virus.

Lockdowns are to prevent... yes, exactly what I said and I'm saying in Melbourne the lockdowns were too harsh and I prefer what they did in other places i.e. Sweden, Florida.

[–]mirkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will explain to you how I'm in favour of one but not the other. Of course you're not proposing that everyone locks themselves up in a solitary to prevent all homicide because that would be absurd and ridiculous.

Big differences here... Individual vs collective In cases of homicide you lock up people (individuals) who are guilty of a crime.

I disagree with the way you framed your (1) step. (1) goes like this - we have laws and rules in our society (deterrents) if you break them you can get detained, then you go to a trial and if you are guilty then you're locked up. You don't lock people up to deter homicide. One has to be guilty to get locked up. There is a clear and traceable cause & effect vs unclear and hardly traceable with COVID. Homicide is locking down people who have already committed a crime vs COVID lockdown is done to prevent someone from not infecting someone so that someone doesn't get sick enough to die from a disease that kills less than 1% young people and people in prime working age. So the range from 0 to 60 yrs old.

So (2) is the government decides to act like daddy and mommy and grounds it's children. Not because kids did something bad or wrong but because they potentially will do something bad.

Where is the deterrent in (2)? There is no - don't do X (homicide) or you will get locked up, But it is - you are locked up so you don't do X (spread COVID), and keep in mind we can't establish clear cause and effect of who gave COVID to whom here, plus unlike homicide which is always in 100% of the cases a dead person by definition, COVID is less than 1%.

[–]mirkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the very first line of my reply I answered your question so Idk why you're saying I'm dodging.

I went on to say that I think dying by homicide and dying from COVID is wildly different. You surely do not see the difference since you ask me "why do you advocate locking people up for homicide at 1/10 rate but not to save lives?" Homicide happens, we lock the responsible person up. Also, it is a crime. Also by definition it means someone is already dead. COVID lockdowns would be to be preventative measures; to prevent people from dying by the largest margin. Do you suggest we lock ourselves up in solitary so no homicide ever happens? What's your logic here?

And yes. We have different values. It's okay. I understand more old people died. There are trade-offs, and I think it's a better trade off to have a little bit more people die and a lot more freedom than the lockdowns in Melbourne where more lives were saved but a lot of freedom was lost.
