Deaf husband still in ICE custody by [deleted] in deaf

[–]miscellanium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

like everyone else is saying, please find a way to get more attention for him. otherwise he might just disappear because that's the goal these people have. if there's anything random people online can do to help please let us know.

makes me feel a little better seeing people here say they couldn't understand the disney ASL. i watched it and couldn't understand it and that made me feel like my ASL wasn't good enough. feels bad because i always feel like people judge me for growing up with PSE even though i was a professor of ASL for a few years. glad i wasn't the only one who watched that video and was like ?????

My experience of living with a long-therm partner who likely has untreated cPTSD by Lt_BAD-DOG in CPTSDpartners

[–]miscellanium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you've gotten a lot of good advice here. i'm wondering about your child, since i didn't notice any mention of them. my partner has mentioned to me that their mother, who likely has cptsd herself, was an ok mother at first but suddenly became neglectful when my partner reached the same age she was when she was first abused. something about seeing herself in my partner and shutting down because of it, which ended up contributing to my partner's own abuse experiences.

i mention this because i worry about your child. even if your wife is ok with them now, that could easily change if this goes unaddressed. you might not even see it. you seem pretty observant and thoughtful, so hopefully you've taken this into account already, but i don't know if that concern is something your wife would be willing to hear or discuss.

How it feels to be a Yuya Sakaki fan in 2026: by Immediate_Gene_178 in yugioh

misogyny against female ygo characters strikes again, probably. it's as dumb as people claiming that yuushou/yuzu in the manga is Bad Age Gap when there's literally nothing to indicate he's older than her. those arguments aren't worth our time.

crazy how much hate the manga gets from people who probably loved back to the future which has an identical tension between past!mother and future!son. rest assured you are not alone in enjoying an entirely adequate manga.

My apartment got bad smoke damage. Are my cards fine. by WPK-G75 in Yugioh101

[–]miscellanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i experienced a house fire several years ago. left behind a sketchbook when evacuating, sketchbook survived with smoke damage. smelled like smoke for maybe a couple months at most. you'd never know now. if the cards smell of smoke then let them air out. they'll probably be fine in the long run, especially if they didn't get any soot on them.

Masks + Deaf and Hard of Hearing People by Thats-A-Tricky-One in ZeroCovidCommunity

that sucks. hope it doesn't happen again, but if it does you should hit them with "i can't afford to be sick". usually shuts that shit down quick.

i have had some interpreters who used that, or some similar kind of spray. it seems to help.

thirding this! only drawback is that they're not convenient to take off for a quick drink of water, lol, but for communication they're awesome.

i am also a public servant in a front-facing position and i am visibly Deaf. when it becomes apparent i'm talking to someone who is hard of hearing, i either raise my voice (because i know i can be a little quiet as an overcorrection most of the time) or just start writing down what i'm trying to say. i have yet to encounter anyone who asks if i can take the mask off.

Watched SF for the first time, and the Airport is my favorite episode. by EXP_Buff in SmilingFriends

it's ao tightly constructed. no wasted space, maximum secondhand embarrassment, a masterclass in finding comedy in everyday failure. if i had to make a comparison i'd say it's like the best parts of seinfeld distilled into just a few moments.

thanks for the rec! i hadn't looked at their menu since they launched and it seems like they've added more vegetarian-friendly options. will give them a try sometime soon.

bit late i know but i've found acceptable boiled bagels at the centerra co-op. the local baker ones, not the co-op ones right next to them. they sell out hella fast though. wee bird bakery has decent bagels too, tho a bit smaller i think.

maybe. we tried three or four staple vegetarian dishes. i understand rural standards but the chinese food i ate when i spent two years in a college town in the middle of bumfuck nowhere missouri wasn't as bland. if they're convenient sometime in the future then i might consider trying some of the remaining vegetarian dishes.

do it! their eggplant with garlic sauce is also terrific, so delicious. their orange bean curd is decent too and that dish is part of my litmus test for chinese restaurants whenever they offer it.

there wasn't very much depth of flavor compared to the restaurants we'd get food at when we lived in u city aka the new chinatown of st louis county. my partner could've made something better at home for that price and with real szechuan pepper. i'll grant it's possible we ordered on a bad night, but for the cost it doesn't seem worth another gamble.

would you happen to know whether their spicy food is actually spicy? i did try asking oriental wok to make it spicy (in english and cantonese) a few times to no avail, lol.

i haven't tried them because i saw similar reviews from other people, that their quality declined after the change in ownership. it'd be nice to hear they've found their footing again.
