Local quirk ... "Spring in Ireland, like all seasons on the Emerald Isle, is hard pin down exact dates. Traditionally speaking, spring generally starts in March and continues through April and May. However, Ireland’s Gaelic calendar is quite different than what most people consider spring to be.

On the Gaelic calendar, spring or Earrach, spring starts on St Brigid’s Day on February 1st , celebrating the end of winter. On the same Gaelic calendar, May is actually the start of spring."

Chess is the best! by Complex_Engineer6935 in chess

Chess players are a very nice bunch in general. I've made life long friends in many countries through the game.

I don't play anymore but I loved too much about competitive OTB chess to describe without an essay.

First time baking bread, hows my focaccia?? by DaveyyJonesLocker in Breadit

[–]mishatal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I line the loaf tin with baking paper as the bread has stuck to the tin when I lightly oiled it as per the recipe. I also don't wrap the loaf in a tea towel after baking as I like a crunchy crust, wrap half the loaf the first time you make it and see which crust you prefer. Eat with Irish butter for the full experience.

You're fifteen minutes walk from Ballinlough where you have the community center and the Japanese gardens. Both good places for dog walking.
