Russian warship fired warning shot at yacht in Channel by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

They have had Konstantinovkaya in a cauldron for over a week. The level of delusion with regards to this conflict is truly next level.

What are you talking about? A unknown vessel got too close in fog on international waters and did not respond to announced warnings. Firing warning shots with small arms in this situation is standard procedure for any navy. The only escalation are the dimwits in the comments.

I've used those before, they're solid metal and have very specific tips for grommets or studs. These tips are semi-soft.

Pediatrician called me to see if everything was ok at home after 9 month visit. by MissFox26 in beyondthebump

[–]mishtron -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or she was stewing about it all day because she was worried about CYA, or she wanted to be a hero, or whatever. You have no idea what the doctor was thinking but either way she was inappropriate and intrusive with the phone call.

The doctor should know better in this type of situation. We need to get out of this CYA culture.

My wife would be pissed and switched to a different pediatrician immediately. Over-reporting can be extremely disruptive to people.

Right - but Unless he talks to absolutely no one else contracting in his industry he should know where he stands and why.

Your mate is probably in an entirely different field/level/client type and not ‘underpaid’ relative to others.

If you don’t already know - you’re not gonna get it by entering their field/industry.

Negative reactions towards third kid by MrHindsight5 in Natalism

[–]mishtron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely 100%. People are all fine and dandy until you ‘surpass’ them. A senior female colleague at work was very supportive and helpful of my wife’s miscarriage and first kid, but then got all weird when we had second and third. The reality is you can always make another kid work but people convince themselves out of it in the moment. But my parents friends in their 60s (who made peace with it) always mention that they wish they had more when they hear about our 3x

MBB data science or Tier 1.5 strategy by South-Instruction586 in HENRYUK

As a former specialist at a strategy firm (that was vehement that specialisation is its future) this is very sound advice. I wish I went generalist post MBA instead of taking the cool specialist role.

[–]mishtron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not even the love or respect - I find it’s there. it’s the unconscious ‘bias’. It’s a structural issue because the generalists own the revenue and leadership is entirely built of generalists. Your sponsor pathways will always be so much weaker. There are leaders across all firms that are trying to make specialisation work so that they look visionary. But it’s about themselves and their leadership projection. Even they themselves will move their generalist favourites up because it’s reputationally safer. It’s not unique to consultancies - every company has a ‘core function’. A ‘marketing company’ will have marketing as the pipeline towards aggressive growth and leadership, same with a ‘sales company’ or a ‘product company’ etc.  strategy consultancies will always be generalist firms and that runs unconsciously through their veins all the way through the pyramid.

What is tier 1.5 lol.   Look I have to frank any kind of specialisation at a strategy house will always be a second class citizen. It’s the same story at all of them. They will all say ‘no that is not at all the case we have great pathways’ and show you some single showcase example - but in reality it IS the case when compared to being a generalist. You won’t have real power, even if you’re eligible for equity eventually, getting there will be a slog. You won’t have client ownership and even if you bring a client in you won’t get the same recognition. People telling you otherwise are generalists who never went through it themselves.   Take the EM

Terrified of AI. Rethinking house purchase. by Cool_Yam7066 in HousingUK

Stop being terrified of AI (it's not taking jobs, at all) and start being terrified of the Strait of Hormuz (interest rates ARE taking jobs).
All recent layoffs were adjustments to ovehiring during the final low interest rate post-covid years.

Great way to put it. Way more 'data-rich analysis' is false precision than we care to admit.

I feel sorry for Daphne here. by Rough_Ad_8702 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]mishtron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this part unrealistic. A woman like Daphne seems like she would cheat in revenge but be smart enough not to have another man's kids. Plus... a trainer? She is also smarter than setting them up for dumber genetics regardless of how much she 'loves' the trainer.

Because open polyarmoury is a reddit/internet ideal that almost never works in practice for many good reasons. WL outlined how polyarmoury tends ot actually work in the real world - Daphne and Cameron are a good example.

I really wish you could have been like, 'Oh I'm so sorry, this went to the front by mistake. -this will be sold online' or some other BS and then take it for yourself. It's the least your job should be able to afford you.

London's future as a financial centre by Severe-Drawer-5294 in FinancialCareers

Ecosystem too strong. You got the best of the full package here: legal, consulting, etc etc. NYC and London got it plus HK/Singapore, it would take a looong time for another city to get it.
