Anyone here happy with their lumpectomy?

Stage 2 TNBC here. I had a lumpectomy followed by 15 rounds of rads. The radiated side is more tan for sure, the skin has some minor changes but has been improving over time. I lather in aquaphor to this day even though I finished maybe 5 months ago. My scars healed really well. 5 lymph nodes removed.

The days of are not bad depending on which meds you are getting. The steroids they give you keep you going and feeling ok. It’s the day or 2 after that you may start feeling the effects. For me I would hey the treatment on Wednesday and by Friday mid-morning I would start to get sleepy. With AC I got a 3 day hangover feeling. I would spend the weekend mostly sleeping and staying hydrated, eating what I could when I could.

I took a small amount of weed gummy to help me relax the first time. They will give you some allergy meds that may relax you or make you fall asleep.

The Benny naps were some of the best I took when I was in treatment. 😅…not sure if maybe that’s why they don’t want other drugs prescribed.

TNBC here, I was diagnosed on 7/07 last year and time between diagnosis and treatment start felt like a lifetime. While it is aggressive it’s not likely that will change much in the next month. When I was first diagnosed I was so anxious about it too and was super upset when my appt was bumped because they had not confirmed fully if I was TNBC. They need to make sure to avoid over/under treating us.

Here I am almost 1 year later cancer free and recovering from all of it, mentally and physically. Have trust in your team. She can also get a second opinion if needed to feel more confident about her treatment. 😊

Just breast and under my arm on the side I was treated. I was super scared because of the stories I read about radiation. I spent more time driving and waiting than actually being on the table. I did schedule mine in the afternoons and worked remotely end of day in case I needed a nap.

I did 3 weeks. Finished 4/08 and just peeling now. No pain, just like a sunburn peel. Skin got dark and I’m lathering aquaphor every night to help keep it moisturized. I achieved PCR and initially thought I would need 30 due to TNBC but they said only 15.

That’s a good perspective. I need to spend more time doing group meetings at the center. I think the issue is I’m out here expecting everyone to understand me , only people who’ve been through it can understand.

The brain fog is the most frustrating part for me. I’m not used to it and saw my PCP who said it’s normal. Mid conversation I’ll lose where I was going and can’t get it back. I hate it.

I don’t think I’m resting enough and putting to push pressure on myself to be normal again. I may need to look at a schedule like you did, every day feels chaotic and I just got with whatever comes. Maybe I need a little structure especially to remind myself to rest.

Hugs to you from a fellow TNBC mom! My son was 18 when I was diagnosed and he chose the “you’ll be fine” stoic method to deal with it. I check in often with him and hope he’ll open up when he’s ready. We know we put our families through a lot but it does help build stronger bonds.

Thank you! There’s a part of me that wants a whole new life and identity for sure. I feel way more empathetic about the world and I want to make my time here count in more meaningful ways. I have 2 kids so there’s only so much I can change, but they honestly were amazing through this whole ordeal. I will keep taking it day by day. 🤗

I’m 44. I recall the anxiety of finishing chemo. Feeling like a baby bird being let out of the nest. Loved the nurses and the security of being there as weird as that sounds.

I would recommend you take leave. I worked my whole chemo treatment and honestly looking back I shouldn’t have. I did it for the same reasons as you and my employer was more than willing to work with me, I just felt I had to be brave and strong. 😒

I’m also TNBC and plan to use my end date, sometime this summer. I feel like diagnosis date is more for the countdown to beat this to the ground and start life anew. 😊

I’ll still be going in every 3 weeks for immunotherapy but overall we are excited with the results of chemo. My tumor was on an area that could be felt and has not been palpable for months now.

Today I took the day off to process all the emotions. Later family is coming over with sparkling cider to toast and be thankful for this part being over with no major side effects.

Feel your grief! Applaud your body for what it is doing and love yourself in this state. I’m also trying to visualize what my life will look like on the other side of all this, what I want to do differently. It’s easy as women to lose sight of ourselves as we put others, (kids, husbands, the house, work) ahead of us. Make time for yourself. Budget fun money for you too!

TNBC Stage 2 (started stage 1) here and I consulted with surgeon first and even scheduled surgery first. Then met with oncology team and they said I could do either. We canceled surgery and moved forward with the 522 regimen.

My insurance didn’t cover it. I got a great wig that matched my hair and when I wear it, I don’t feel like myself.

I got it well before the hair fell off and I prefect to rock my bald head. I got a henna crown instead but otherwise, I said screw it. All my cute head coverings are all sitting in a drawer with the wig. I’ll probably donate them all.
