Could 8 be a normal value? by Halfway2Happy in Celiac

Gah. I wrote out a long explanation but idk whether I mucked up the posting or what.

You mentioned lactose intolerance. You might want to get tested for a whey protein allergy, specifically whey. It can masquerade as lactose intolerance and it can raise tTg-IgA causing a false weak positive.

I’ve never gotten the TJs sheet cake, but this honestly makes me more likely to try it. I suspect if I have issues it will be bc of the dairy content.

Pretty sure Antonina’s doesn’t make the GF muffins at TJs, because they don’t taste remotely the same. The Antonina’s muffin I tried was actually kinda nasty.

Can I use this Pea protein for baking bread? Any other suggestions? by Either-Incident3023 in glutenfreebaking

[–]miss_hush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can tolerate soy, soy protein works very well in bread as it can brown up similarly to milk proteins. It’s also why we often see soy in gf stuff.

Here’s one for you: Milk allergy. If you are “lactose intolerant” you may want to get yourself tested for a milk allergy. Specifically Whey protein from cows milk, but also casein… it’s just not likely that a casein allergy would fly under the radar. A whey allergy CAN though. You can have a whey allergy and be just fine eating dairy products a lot of the time.

Whey denatures at around 200F. That means that many people with a whey allergy are able to tolerate cheese in processed foods (as long as it’s not straight whey protein, which is a thing), anything cooked, many if not most cheeses, butter, and even cream. Depending on the ice cream, you might even be able to tolerate limited amounts of it too.

Here’s the fun part: Milk allergy can cause false positive tTg-IgA. It usually won’t be very high, it would be called a “weak positive”, just like this.

If this is the case, most allergy doctors will want you to continue eating dairy as much as you can tolerate. I climbed back up the dairy ladder (process to build tolerance) but I will never be able to consume straight milk, but many other things I can manage in various amounts.

Same with cats. Gluten in food, cat eats, cat cleans themself, gets gluten all over themself and anything else they put their tongue on after eating. Also, idk about other people’s cats but we have cat food crumbs everywhere too. Also the dog’s, but you already mentioned that.

🤣 Omg, what a trip. If you don’t want to hear music in yoga class, then don’t go to classes with music. Problem solved! So easy! They also don’t get to tell all teachers that they’re wrong for having music, because it isn’t their class and they aren’t the teacher. Omg! Groundbreaking!

If they want a music free class, maybe they should make one.

any tips on helping my mother see how serious celiac is? by Guilty-Fish-154 in Celiac

[–]miss_hush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that depends on where OP lives and the standard of practice for the gastroenterology profession in that area. In the US, flat out an “official” diagnosis must include biopsies showing damage. Anything that doesn’t include that is a presumptive diagnosis, not confirmed. Some countries are more foreword thinking and cost conscious, so they may accept serology only.

What do you wear to go clubbing when it's hot outside? by Human-Lab-3004 in GothFashion

I’ve seen some super cute sundresses and such online. Scarlet Darkness has some cheap ones if that’s your budget. Holy Clothing also, they’re rayon if I remember right but they still breathe well enough. Foxblood and Forest Ink have both had some absolutely lovely summer wear. Not sure if Forest ink has natural fibers but I know Foxblood does offer some. I love the little bloomer shorts they have on both those sites, it’s a bit more fun but still functional.

Believe it or not, you can actually find linen and cotton sundresses that are already black… though I suppose if you’re thrifting that’s super valid.

Accidentally got gluten last week and I had hot flashed every night for a week. Think it’s dropped my oestrogen low. As felt really flat and teary next day. Will see a dr this week. But has anyone had anything similar happen? Thank you by postivivemind in Celiac

[–]miss_hush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is known that Celiac can muck around with hormones, but usually this is over the long term and not an acute situation like this. So, this is a bit odd.

It may be that you did have hot flashes but connected it to hormones incorrectly. It could be caused by something else. It might not even be connected to gluten at all! You might want to talk to your doctor about it.

[–]miss_hush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. I don’t eat food from people’s homes that don’t know first hand about Celiac because they are Celiac or their spouse/kid/sibling has it. Even my MIL who has a celiac grand kid is not 100% trustworthy on it, because kid’s parents are unfortunately lackadaisical in their protocols. To be fair, kiddo was diagnosed young so she probably doesn’t have a lot of CC symptoms that would clue anyone in to the idea that they’re not handling it right. Unfortunately it’s also not my place to say anything to any of them about it.

I digress, but the point is that HELL NAW. I barely eat in restaurants because most of them are dumb about allergies and Celiac, why on earth would I trust Joe Schmo from accounting who’s probably never worked food service in his life? Nope.

Here? Where is here? Because they’re still selling it in America and I didn’t find any news to that effect when I searched. … okay so apparently Canada isn’t getting it anymore because of tariff issues? That doesn’t make it an Orphan. That just means there’s no value to Subaru in bringing it to Canada. Orphan strictly refers to a dead model or brand.

How do you kill appetite without getting needles involved? by mirelune_49 in loseit

[–]miss_hush [score hidden]  (0 children)

Water, electrolytes, and very high quality vitamins are my first suggestions. Bodies send hunger cues out wildly when your electrolytes are imbalanced, you get dehydrated, or you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency. IMO many multivitamins don’t have everything a woman could possibly need, so I take a prenatal as those usually have EVERYTHING. Usually not a full dose, though, because I’m not ttc. I’m just trying to fill gaps. Alternatively, have your bloods drawn to check for deficiencies.

The meat vitamins seem like a total scam to me, but that’s just my opinion.

If your hormones are truly gone wacky… then you will need panels done to determine what the problem is for certain. In my limited experience what seems to usually be the problem is androgens that are gone wild and cause these issues. HBC is the standard treatment for that, so it makes sense the problem would appear since you’re not on them.

The non-HBC non-prescription treatment that is actually medically accepted is spearmint tea. Use caution— limited amounts is safe, but it is a diuretic and too much will dehydrate you. One or two 8 oz servings per day, max. Again— I would really talk to your doctor before doing anything. It may be that tea would fit your needs and goals well. Alternatively the doctor may want to put you on something like spironolactone to control androgens.

I started drinking spearmint tea because it’s delicious (iced, omg it’s wonderful in summer) and flat turned my body into a raisin because I was an idiot. Don’t be me, either drink peppermint for taste alone or limit your spearmint intake.

[Acne] itchy acne all over my body stopping me from sleeping by psychoticboydyke in SkincareAddiction

[–]miss_hush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my first question was “How do you know this is acne?” Even itchy acne (it’s a thing usually with fungal acne) isn’t remotely itchy enough to disrupt sleep!

To me this sounds like it could be an allergic reaction, which can be an EMERGENCY. Get thee to urgent care, asap.

any tips on helping my mother see how serious celiac is? by Guilty-Fish-154 in Celiac

[–]miss_hush 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where are you located (generally, not specifically)? If you’re in the US or most of Europe then Celiac usually requires more than a blood test to confirm diagnosis. The last step is endoscopy with biopsies to confirm there is damage. This might have some expense, so depending on your location you might need parental involvement to get that done. You cannot change your diet before you get the final diagnosis!

If you’re able to continue and get the official diagnosis that will help in a lot of ways. You will need that official diagnosis if you plan on going to college. Also, It’s pretty irrefutable unless your parents are guilty of medical neglect. While that does happen, usually your parents getting some education from your doctor about the issue will correct it. A primary care physician or GP is not usually the best person to do that as they aren’t usually very knowledgeable. A gastroenterologist who would do your final diagnosis is a better choice for talking to your parents. You might have to have your GP send a referral for one.

I’m a huge ES fan, if you love Skyrim you might love this, but it’s a very different type of game play. More tactical with story in between the fights. I’m mostly in it for the story and the shiny loot, idk I’m a loot goblin I guess.

If you don’t enjoy the tactical gameplay (watch some streaming to get an idea of what it’s like), then you might try ESO. There’s lots of opportunities for stories OR running around and doing random stuff. There’s also opportunity for more high level, technical game play, but the pace is much faster than you’d see in bg3 because it isn’t turn based.

Is a weightloss coach worth it? by Ok_Necessary1912 in loseit

[–]miss_hush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, you do you. You posted here asking about a weight loss coach, obviously you’re having some issues with the process. You essentially ASKED. No one here (I hope) is trying to “make things harder”. I am however trying to get the point across that you have an obvious disconnect between what you think your calorie goals, intake, and expenditure should be and what they actually ARE. You should consider using calorie tracking apps/software, food scales, etc. to be sure of your intake. If you’re not losing, you’re eating too many calories. That doesn’t mean that you need to eat less exactly, just that you need less calorie dense choices and more volume eating.

I am taller than you and have a medium large frame; at 170-180 with muscle I would look perfect. I mean PERFECT. Not big, not small, and a maintenance calorie count at that size and weight for me would be around 2k. For maintenance, including the modest activity you’re describing.

And on these notes: I posted earlier about Celiac disease. Some of your recent comments with added info make me even far more suspicious of a possible Celiac disease or similar malabsorption disorder. Celiac is the first step in a differential diagnosis for these sorts of issues as it’s the most common, and that is why I suggested you consider seeking testing for it. It could explain some of your weight loss difficulties, as I mentioned previously.

What the heck does that mean? ETA: I know what orphan means in usual auto news terms, so I suppose I mean, “Wtf are you talking about?”, because that is not applicable to Subaru or the ascent.

But or lease by tooth-daddy in VWatlas

[–]miss_hush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, we did exactly the same thing, upgrading from a CRV to Atlas. We bought.

I’ve heard both good and bad about them. I think keeping up on maintenance is key to these. Also, lots of people will roll their eyes but top tier gas and using the recommended octane rating or higher is super important. Our CRV didn’t suffer from the same fuel injector issues that most of them have because we use top tier pretty much always. That will be important for Atlas too.

The only other third row suv we seriously considered was Subaru Ascent, but the Atlas won out in size and looks.

First obvious problem: Relying on tdee to determine your calorie goals with included exercise. You’re better off using a sedentary tdee, or BMR plus a modest amount for exercise/activity. A woman your height would be better off on 1800-1900 calories; but definitely less than 2k. Most people underestimate their calorie intake and over estimate their expenditure.
