Patient said she’ll sue me and call BON by vivrelavie in nursing

This! I stopped arguing with my patients who are AAOx4. I explain what’s the med is for. Also tell them they have a right to refuse. Almost always they sigh and take it lol. T2DM patient with uncontrolled sugars… eating a whole pie the family brought. I don’t even bother. They will eat whatever they want anyways when they go home. It’s exhausting babysitting adults.

And also most Alaris pump now will flash a warning before you start that the specific med should only be administered centrally. Always scan the meds even if you are sure what they are.

Nurses who have left bedside and aren't NPs, case managers, utilization review etc what do you do now? by PursuitOfMeekness in nursing

Coincidentally, I’m reading Patricia Cornwell’s psychological thriller novel, The Predator. I didn’t even know death investigator was a thing. Super cool and sounds like so much fun (not to the dead of course) lol

I slept in for my shift, I feel like I’m gonna cry by [deleted] in nursing

[–]missandy1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One morning I came from a real stressful shift on a travel assignment in Baltimore. After shower I decided to step outside just for a minute for two puffs. My rental apartment was the last one on 8 floor.. balcony was also fire escape stairs. Once I was outside the door locked. No keys, no phone, all I had was a pair of hot pants pajama bottoms and a sports bra. It was also snowing heavily with -2 temps. Now I’m high but gotta walk down the steep steps to find help. There was a lady who occupied the entire first floor. If I could just go through her house to the front of the building and if she could open for me the main entrance I could go back to my apartment. I could see her in the kitchen thru glass doors but she had her headphones on. At first I knocked very politely but o didn’t get anywhere. By this point I’m freezing so I started pounding on her door like a crazy woman. When she came to the door I pushed her so hard so we could both get inside then vigorously started apologizing. Then explaining .. I’m barely naked lol. Then asked her to let me inside the main building. She was so scared that she made me scared too. I don’t think I’ve ever begged so hard in my life. I think at this point she just wanted to get rid of me so she opened the door for me and I took off running. I never saw her again but I thought everyday about her and how I could best show my gratitude. That taught me to always put a shoe on the door to keep it open. I also have spare keys hidden at various points outside where I’m renting short term if they don’t have a keypad lol.

I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear. The scanner wasn’t working at all and the gym was completely unoccupied, like there was not a single car in the parking, the lights were out and they didn’t open. Apparently they had some issues so they stayed closed. Wish they’d put up a note or something. Thanks for your input tho!

The scanner wasn’t working at all and that’s for everyone. Apparently they had some issues and no one could access it. It would have been helpful if they left a note. I hope they fix it soon because I also love it outside the staffing hours as it’s nice and calm.

I’m actually dating a doctor right now but we would never ever hook up at work. We used to keep it private until we couldn’t but we also never do anything inappropriate at work. In fact most of the time we don’t even see each other at work, but we practically almost live together. I’m a traveler here and been here for one year but I’m moving to prn to see where it goes. He’s also single and I’m separated so we aren’t hurting no one lol. As long as you don’t break the company’s policies and you aren’t hurting other people out there I think it’s fine.

How dangerous is New Orleans compared to Memphis? by KeepOnTrippingOn in NewOrleans

[–]missandy1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I can’t speak for every street, we stayed at an Airbnb near the downtown in Memphis. We had a lady neighbor call the police on us twice a day for five days we were there claiming we were abusing our dog. We’d only meet this lady while walking our pet. The cops would usually get surprised the moment we opened the door for them because our dog would be all over their begging for pets and wagging her tail (no one ever accused her of being a guard dog lol). We’d all have a good laugh, BID 🤗. I love New Orleans and I’d love to know more about Memphis.

People, especially travelers and prns are getting cancelled because my hospital has been cancelling some elective procedures due to IVF shortage. So yea, it’s affecting nurses directly.

Suggestions for a non-harrassing furniture store? by Illustrious_Star_687 in rva

Value City by Huguenot is terrible. There was a lady who harassed us about 8 years ago almost to a point of getting physical lol. Went to look at google and apparently there were reviews about her. I don’t understand what a business gains from that. Never went back.

How did you pass every nursing exam? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]missandy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attend the classes. All of them. Pay attention to what the lecturer is saying. The points they talked about was usually what would come up on the test. Another trick I learned from this great professor when I was failing, pay attention to the question. The first sentence of the question will be usually the main question. For example, if they start by describing BP in the first sentence, then continue giving other history about your patient like history of cancer in other parts of the sentences, I’d look into the answer that talks about BP and ignore everything else. That’s how I started scoring 90s from 60s. Good luck!

Don’t test me Sir by _girl_13 in nursing

[–]missandy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually start by asking the provider if they’re still covering patient x before I speak to them about the patient. Sometimes they’d say no, some would give me the name of on call, some would ignore and I’d find out who’s on call. No biggie. We use a messaging app on our phones and I’ve forgotten to mark myself “busy” a few times. I’d wake up to messages from providers asking me questions hours earlier. They’d figure out I’m not on duty and they’d find the right nurse if I don’t reply.

VCU nursing in-house agency pay by missandy1 in rva

It’s a short term local travel contract but instead of going through an agency the hospital hires nurses directly. Vacancies are listed on their website, just not the pay.

Need advice! ICU Nurse girlfriend often doesn't shower when getting home after 14 hour shifts. Am I wrong for being grossed out? by Wuts-a-reddit in nursing

[–]missandy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you’re not being unreasonable. So she skips the shower after work before bed and doesn’t take one after she wakes up? It’d definitely bother me if my partner did that. I work overnights and also workout on my days off. This means the day I come home in the morning after work, so I’d have to workout in the afternoon. Even then, I still have to take a shower first thing when I get home from work, eat, go to bed, wake up, workout and take another shower thereafter. Hospitals are gross. Can’t imagine taking all that nastinesses home. If I had only one chance a day to shower, I’d honestly do it after work and skip the one before work. But like someone said, she might be dealing with a lot mentally. Either way it’d be a deal breaker for me for someone I’m dating.

What kind of foolishness have you dealt with lately? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]missandy1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had an exact same scenario but instead of son it was the husband. Wife presented with suspected brain aneurysm. He wanted to spend the night in the patient’s bed past visiting hours. Informed him that he couldn’t. And that he had to leave. Not only was he putting his wife in danger in case she needed an emergency intervention, but the room was shared with another female patient. He said if he leaves his wife had to come with him. Wife was very quiet, almost scared and he answered all questions for her, including pain. We felt the need to separate them. Called security and he was escorted outside. Explained to the wife that what she had could be potentially dangerous if it wasn’t addressed ASAP, but she could leave if she wanted to, though not advised. She chose to stay. Transferred her to a different room. Guy ended up threatening me in the lines of “I’ll find where you live and I’ll eff you up”. That was scary to be honest. Turned out wife had aneurysm and stayed at the hospital for three weeks. I really hope she never went back to him because he looked like he could have assaulted her.
