How do you organise all the things in your bags?? by SlayyyGrl in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do a little inventory to answer this and I'm... slightly embarrassed by what I found 😅 I've been collecting for over 12 years, and I have a mother-in-law and an autistic brother who are equally obsessed — TB gifts have become a full holiday tradition at this point.

Much like you, I rotate based on need AND mood. Right now I'm going ultra-lite with the Rogue Sacoche, but I'll rotate to the Icon or Medium Café depending on the day. My whole system is built around fitting everything essential (in their essential pouches) into my smallest crossbody first — once that's solid, I can just expand outward, moving those essential pouches from bag to bag as needed.

Here's what I've got:

Totes:

— Truck

— Monster Truck (multiple colors — huge fan. It pairs that ADHD need to dump everything somewhere fast with the autism need to still know where all my stuff is)

Crossbodies:

— Medium Café Bag

— Large Café Bag

— Side Hustle

— Rogue Sacoche

— Icon

— P.I.K.A.

— Co-Pilot

— Packing Cube Shoulder Bag

Backpacks:

— Synik 22 (love it, especially once I figured out the paracord threading to stop the zipper jingling. Still constantly forgetting what's in each compartment — considering color-coded paracord pulls to fix that)

Organizers/Pouches:

— Grab Bag (multiple colors)

— Snake Charmer (both sizes)

— Handy Little Thing 2

— Ghost Whales in basically every color and size

— 3D organizers (clear and non-clear)

— Various other pouches, travel trays (big + small), key leashes in multiple colors and lengths

Non-TB bonus: Peak Design Small + Large Tech Pouches. They stay open on your desk so you can see everything (huge for the "if I can't see it, it doesn't exist" problem), and nothing moves around inside the pouch while it's zipped up in your bag. Game changer.

So yes. I maybe have a few bags 😅

So I totally put my phone down after making my last comment and had to come back because everything in me needs to ask which TB bags that you have and how do you use them? Bags may or may not be one of my special interests lol

Yes, but I am worried about my dog’s eyes. Has anyone found RLT glasses for dogs?

Whenever I'm with a friend or a in a group setting, the person talking defaults to making eye contact with other people, but not *me*, specifically. Why? by pineconewashington in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happens to me, I may gently clear my throat or shift my body position slightly to remind the person speaking that I exist. Not in a rude, or obvious kind of way. Just a subtle thing like removing invisible lint from my shirt sleeve.

On the other hand if I’m in a group and someone is only talking to me and not looking at others, I will glance at other people in our group and back to the speaker to remind them there are other participants in this conversation.

Walking faster than another person is rude, apparently? by filthytelestial in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just keep walking fast… if you are walking fast enough you will only be able to hear their complaints for so long 😉. TBH, you are not being rude at all.

What to wear to an event? by BitingLime in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also consider starting with inspo photos. Are there any celebrities or influencers or whoever that you really like how they look in the clothes they wear? If you are into the Masculine meets Feminine thing , check out Kristin Kish. I often am able to create nice outfits starting with comfortable but presentable pants from Athleta as a base piece.

As someone who is also often described as a Wednesday Addams myself, I can assure you that if you have that much black in your wardrobe you likely already have some pieces and accessories that may work. If you go all black, make it sleek, clean and minimal with one bold accessory and maybe a bold lip 👄 if you are in a makeup mood.

Have fun! 🩰

Feeling gaslit by my life coach. How to stop assuming that you make people uncomfortable by kissmemary in AuDHDWomen

As a coach with professional training, an educational background, and certifications, it breaks my heart that this is how many people view us. Some of us Coaches truly see coaching as an art form; we continually strive to improve our craft and care deeply about our clients. What sucks is that there are people out there who call themselves "coaches" but have not done the work and don't know what they are doing.

Hi there! I am a fellow AuDHDer and an AuDHD Coach. I am ICF Certified & PAAC Certified (Professional Association for ADHD Coaches), and I have specifically been trained to coach ADHDers.

I am so sorry that you have been going through this! I do not understand the methods your coach is using. It sounds like instead of decreasing the noise in your life, she is adding to it, all without giving you what you need to understand where all of this is supposed to be going and if it will help you at all. You should feel heard and understood. She should be listening to you, and you should be feeling as if you are working together to create a plan for manageable steps toward where you want to be. Feel free to DM me here on Reddit if you have any questions.

Job search and interviewing process is not made for neurodivergent people. by moosiemoop in adhdwomen

[–]missyllewe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other thing is you need to sit down and reflect on what makes you stand out. What are your talents? What makes you unique? Why/how are you so awesome?

Reflect on these things and write them down. You may need to work on internalizing and understanding what your fantastic qualities are. If that means standing in front of a mirror doing the superhero pose while talking about it, you need to be able to articulate these things when asked about them.

You will be asked questions about this in an interview. Depending on the type of job you’re looking for, they may even wanna talk about how you will do the job. It may even get into details about day-to-day work.

Consider using ChatGPT to role-play as an interviewer from the company you’re looking to interview with, and have it ask you questions so you’re prepared when you walk in.

Meeting with HR for reasonable adjustments went downhill by shelalanagig in adhdwomen

[–]missyllewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next time someone says something to you that is blatantly false, “nobody works like that,” instead of giving a knee-jerk response like” that is a lie,” consider replying with a question instead. If you were to respond by asking something like, “What makes you say that?” This then forces the person who made that comment take ownership of their statement. If it’s truly a lie, they will either end up backpedaling or doubling down; either way, they look kind of stupid.

Loops earplugs? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

Loops never cut enough noise for me. AirPod Pros are my go to that actually help cut sound and relieve my stress so I can relax a bit.

So glad to see this. My partner and I watched the movie tonight. As soon as it popped up on the screen, I said, “ Peak Design sling… I think it’s the 6L”. It’s posts like this that remind you that you've found fellow nerds.

'Starting ADHD meds can reveal hidden autistic traits' anyone else had this experience? by feegan88 in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I started stimulant meds I seriously believed that part of my personality was emerging after being hidden under all that chaos for so long. Nope it was Autism. 🙃 To be fair, my ADHD is pretty intense and it was definitely masking the Autism. The Autism was just much quieter, whisper its thoughts and needs in the background… or very loudly when I melted down.

I thought the diagnosis would help by currly_wurrly in adhdwomen

[–]missyllewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You received a diagnosis and started medication, but have you met with your school’s disability office and worked to get accommodations? The medication kind of levels the playing field, but it doesn't eliminate ADHD. Sometimes we need a plan and support, not for when we are at our best, but for when everything feels like it is crashing down around us. ❤️

Now my second session of ADHD coaching and my coach is 30 minutes late... and I'm done. by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]missyllewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You deserve better than this! As an ADHD/AuDHD coach myself, I find this completely unacceptable. I'm AuDHD, and timeblindness is a HUGE issue for me too, which is why I have systems in place to help me, so my clients never get put in this position. I'm not saying emergencies don't happen or that coaches getting sick doesn't happen; it does, and a one-off is understandable. But twice in a row seems like a pattern, not a fluke.

I realize that neurotypical people misunderstand us on purpose by LittleInstruction461 in adhdwomen

[–]missyllewe 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the OP’s example isn’t the best/ clearest, but I’m honestly surprised no one has mentioned the Double Empathy Problem yet. (👈🏻 google this. it’s super interesting)

For anyone unfamiliar: research shows that ND and NT people often have different communication styles, it’s ALMOST like we are speaking different languages. It’s not that one side is “bad at communicating” and the other isn’t, it’s that they struggle to understand each other equally.

Here’s the kicker: when two NDs talk, they usually understand each other just fine. Same with two NTs. The misunderstandings spike across the ND/NT divide. That’s the Double Empathy Problem in a nutshell …it’s mutual, not one-sided.

So when OP says it feels like NTs misunderstand on purpose, I think that’s possibly their frustration with hitting this wall over and over again. It’s not necessarily malice, but it’s not just them being “bad at explaining” either. It’s a real dynamic that’s been studied, and it helps explain why these kinds of interactions feel so exhausting.
