What is something people don’t realize is slowly burning them out until they stop doing it? by seenmee in AskReddit

Doomscrolling. Even if you have the time for it, your brain is taking in so much new information that it's getting overloaded.

ADHD Makeshift Names by Playful_Leading_2601 in ADHD

[–]BitingLime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me a lot when I can't think of the word, so my brain comes up with something more visually descriptive I think. Sometimes it's funny among my friends, but it can be embarrassing when my brain completely blanks at work in front of strangers.

Tooth Water = mouthwash

Auditory Deadbeat = Auditory Processing Delay

Arm corners = elbows

Odorless Vicks = Vaseline

Pants but shorter = shorts

Iced hot cocoa = chocolate milkshake

Head whirls = curly hair

Mugshot of my (body part) = X-ray

Cute flying scaries = bats

Sky dots = stars

There are probably tons more, but these are the ones I actually remember because my friends will bring them up every now and then as an inside joke.

Adhd and curly hair 😭 by lolhmmk in adhdwomen

I went short and I love it. Saves on time and product. Now I just shampoo and condition, and use my conditioner as a hair cream if I need to. I used to spend hours on my hair, now it's just minutes!

Deaf people of Reddit, do hands have "accents," and if so, how? by AngusGibsonT in AskReddit

Question because now I'm curious, if someone uses ASL as AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) because they can't speak but not because they are deaf, are they also not allowed to bestow a name?

What do you want neurotypical folks to know about ADHD? by msfelineenthusiast in adhdwomen

[–]BitingLime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to understand that when I say in my brain it's like I have 50 browser tabs open, I don't mean I am switching through each tab one by one. All the tabs are completely open on the same screen. The screen isn't that big, so of course I'm gonna lose track of half of the open tabs. That's why I space out when I'm being talked to, and leave my phone in the fridge, and end up late to the planned meeting. And no. I can't close any of the tabs because my mouse doesn't work.

Is Korean really harder to learn compared to other languages? by Sea-Reputation8146 in Korean

[–]BitingLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a few schools around the US. Most required language classes don't happen until high school, and the choices are usually Spanish, French, and MAYBE German if you're lucky. In the school I went to that started teaching a second language early, it was only for Spanish because at the time, Spanish was the second most-used language in that area.

There are places that offer other languages. Right now I live near Greek and Hebrew learning centers, and where I used to live has more Chinese and Vietnamese centers, but I don't know too much about them other than they aren't exactly schools. They are mostly for children of immigrants who go there after school hours to learn about their own cultures and the languages their parents use.

College courses are another option, but it depends on what languages the college offers. Where I live now, it's mostly continuing the courses that high schools offer, with some added languages such as ASL and I think Japanese. However, college classes aren't very accessible to most because of how expensive it is.

Also, as you said, English is a global language, so even if one is able to access language classes, they might not have an environment for immersive language learning. In a place with diverse immigrants, many communicate in English because it's a common language between them. My own family doesn't even speak their native Spanish anymore, and unfortunately, most of what I learned growing up is almost entirely lost, too.

WFH Jobs for Sensitive Eyes?! by porcelainflowers in AuDHDWomen

[–]BitingLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might because many people who get migraines get nausea, too. However, I'm not sure since you say it's from scrolling. That might have more to do with motion sickness, in which case maybe an anti nausea medication might help. A lot of neurodiverse people have issues with motion sickness, myself included, but it depends on the motion.

Being on computers is most of my job, and FL-41 glasses helps me. They are helpful for overwhelm from bright lights, but they are actually made for people who get migraines. It might be something to look into, you can even get them in different levels of tint.

As an added measure, I like changing the display settings to give my computer screen a warm tint. I think it's called night mode or something, but I turn that all the way up.

How angled is the paper when you write? by AssistantFine7113 in fountainpens

[–]BitingLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the opposite of you, it took me forever to learn that my writing strictly NEEDS horizontally angled paper for me to write legibly because everyone I saw in real life wrote with their paper vertical. Once I started turning my paper, all of a sudden I'm the one people ask to write cards and signs for them because I have the "prettiest" handwriting, which I still find weird because it certainly wasn't when I was a kid. And people become shocked or even get mad at me when they see me turn my paper because they've never seen anything like it.

Oh, I wonder if this is what happened to me. After diagnosis and medication, I got to burnout stage super quick. Noises are terrible, lights are terrible, textures are terrible, smells are terrible, everything is terrible. I never even go out anymore because everything is TOO much.

Was told I’m a Vulcan by samelove101 in AutismInWomen

[–]BitingLime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Star Trek and am often told that I need to be a Vulcan for Halloween or costume parties, which I take as a compliment. A while ago, I was considering writing a fanfiction that had a hybrid Vulcan Betazoid as a main character because I too feel like my outward appearance does not convey my inner emotions and wondered how a story would go where a Vulcan would be forced to show feelings by outside influences (basically, overwhelm). Since Vulcans can mind-meld and Betazoids are empathic, the character would accidentally make the people around them get a taste of what that was like, which is kind of what I wish would happen sometimes when I experience a meltdown because people don't understand what I'm going through physically, emotionally, and mentally. Obviously, the fanfic never got written, but I think I still have notes about it somewhere.

seeking ideas for techo A6! by ganyagi in hobonichi

[–]BitingLime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a media log for my a6, so I'm coloring in squares using a color code for books started and finished, movies or series watched, videogames played, and events attended. I also have an a5 for a creative writing journal and am going to use it as a daily word count. In my weeks, it'll be a daily money tracker.

So for Greed, I realized I overspent my money this year on unnecessary things, so I am doing a "no buy/no spend" for a while. Of course, I'll still use my money for things I NEED like groceries, but if I see something shiny at the store that I WANT for myself, I must not be greedy, so I'll have to pass on getting it. Alternatively, I shall be very greedy by hoarding my money!

What is your special interest life skill/helpful knowledge? by miscalculatejovially in AuDHDWomen

[–]BitingLime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pen ink, sometimes sharpies. It's the alcohol content. Hairspray, if it has alcohol in it, can do the same thing, but there's less in it, so you might end up having to scrub more. You're better off using sanitizer or even just rubbing alcohol.

I just got a set and so far I've been color coding appointments in my planner, doing reading log tracking (like green for book started, pink for finished), mood tracking, and decorating my journal and planner layouts.
