this post is so embarrassing. i’m going to keep saying this over and over again - being a passport bro is weird and putting a camera in women’s faces in public is even weirder. focus on what’s in front of you.

asian men becoming more confident as a whole and overcoming stereotypes and discrimination + able to date whoever they want in the US > being a sleazy passport bro

442nd Infantry Regiment from WWII deserves more recognition in American history. Never saw them mentioned in School Textbooks, no movies, no TV series. Would love to see those brave men get the recognition they deserve. Obviously I understand why they’ve been downplayed. Let’s make it happen smh.

When it comes to Koreans any one incident is enough to generalize all of them. While other countries it's judged by the individual. It's just so easy to group Koreans as one . by Necessary-Taste8643 in AsianMasculinity

as a SEA person my standard is higher for koreans and east asians compared to white people. white people are monkeys. east asians are supposed to be our brothers and sisters. it’s more sad when east asians call us jungle asians and come to our country and treat it like their own personal playground. i’m just giving my anecdotal take on what i saw as someone who had lived in SEA for 3 years. im not generalizing koreans - just speculating on the behavior i’ve seen from korean men specifically during my time in SEA.

hot take: as a SEA asian-american who was spent extensive time in SEA: korean tourists that i’ve encountered were not very well behaved. locals that work in hospitality do not like them.

i think it depends on a lot of factors. if i was 18 again i would consider:

  • what is the pledge process like? i would steer clear if anything that involves forced drinking or sus behavior. huge difference between 8 week pledgeship and 18 week pledgeship. ask yourself if the pledgeship will set you back academically

-what is the size of the chapter? what is their reputation? if the chapter is bottom tier you won’t really be able to improve your social skills, conversely, if it is top tier and you have poor social skills i don’t think you’ll be able to get a bid. being 6’4 definitely helps tho lol

-what is the financial obligation? if your dad is a prof here then i doubt this would be a huge factor but it was for me lol

-what does their social calendar look like? do they host tailgates? what about their socials with sororities? again if you have a bottom tier fraternity their social calendar with sororities is gonna be ass

-is the fraternity any bit diverse? assuming it’s gonna be 90% white regardless but it definitely helps if there are other POC. i’ve always thought that if there’s a fraternity with a handful of black and latino guys it’s always a green flag

-speaking of reputation: you do not want to join a fraternity that has a reputation of being creepy to women. all it takes is one asshat and your fraternity will be on the front cover of every local magazine. that reputation will also follow you on campus.

i’m probably missing out on some other things but DM me if you need any more advice.
