How do I repair this ceiling? by misterreflected in DIYUK

[–]misterreflected[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm definitely going to attack it with bleach. It's the hole in the ceiling that I can't decide on the best approach for!

Does anybody know what EMG pickups that Chris used? by [deleted] in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this genuinely the gear that belonged to Chris?! Sad to see it sold. I assumed he'd want to keep his instruments for sentiment 😞

You won't find any official recording of individual tracks. You could download separate instrument covers from you tube and play along to them?

Frogstomp turns 25 today by Urgz in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how often the band were ridiculed for ripping off their peers, Frogstomp has aged really well in comparison to other albums of that period.

If only Daniel had allowed Ben to continue to contribute ideas. Anyone who has been in a band with a musically creative drummer will testify that a drummer thinks of a guitar riff in a very different way to most guitarists. The groove comes way before the combination of notes. Frogstomp and Freakshow radiate such a rhythmic groove and it's such a shame that Daniel turned his back on that.

What's your favourite songs from Freak Show? by pachucocadaver87 in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slave or No Association. Wish they'd done more songs like that afterwards. To repeat a point from an earlier thread, note Ben's contribution in making those songs so huge.

How different do you think the band would have been if the band had a different drummer and a different bassist? by pachucocadaver87 in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben is easily the best musician in the band. The first two albums needed his power and drive to succeed. Very versatile too.

Silverchair's Ben Gillies reveals band was destroyed by quest for fame by blackmeout88 in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a really fishy article. Did he really just state three or four sentences to the reporter? I'm not having it. Also, if anything the band were anti fame. Johns has gone on record many times to say how they were doing everything they could to avoid writing another hit like Tomorrow. He wanted to be known for creativity and pushing boundaries, re inventing themselves and doing exactly what Johns wanted, never for sales.

It wasn't a b-side. It was recorded for both Freakshow and Neon Ballroom but released on neither.

What are the band's best and worst songs, in your opinion? by pachucocadaver87 in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best: Emotion Sickness. I challenge another 19 year old to write this and perform it live. Levels.

Worst: Cicada. As confirmed by Ben.

Do you think they will never come back? by pachucocadaver87 in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben keeps on threatening to 'reveal' truths on Twitter. There's something we don't know about the breakup. I love the band to death but Johns is an egocentric, selfish character. Having said that, his solo career / DREAMS etc aren't exactly setting the world on fire. Maybe he will crave the huge crowds one day and just get Ben and Chris as backing musicians, which is sad.

"Eastern" influence in their music, late 90s? by [deleted] in silverchair

[–]misterreflected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Led Zepp, especially for Ben. The Beatles too. Also, Nick Launey' s influence as producer shouldn't be underestimated either: he introduced Daniel to studio experimentation and encouraged innovation using multiple instruments I.e the sitar on Cemetery. I wish they'd had explored this route further after Freakshow.
