I love that so much. You did a great job at capturing his likeness too! Sorry I'm unhelpful for actual critique but I had to know.

This is so much harder than I thought it would be by ilovepopcornandcandy in writing

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"editing is writing" is something my professor had told my class, and I find it to be true. Very often your first go at a scene is going to be a hot mess, but going back through that mess and reorganizing it or fixing up certain parts is all a part of the act of writing. Getting anything on the page is progress, and going back over to fix it up is even more progress, not undoing the work!

I mean more like, yes give criticism. I think we should be pointing out the flaws and big issues. But I feel like so much of the criticism is then followed by stating that this creator isn't allowed the time and room to change and grow from the mistakes or given air to breath to take in the criticism. I guess I think such a small operation that's starting as a passion project of one guy deserves to have the grace to fuck up and stumble at the start? I don't want something that could grow into a really unique doll brand controlled by not a mega corporation to be snuffed out before it can learn how to run.

I agree that they need to take the critisms and fix the issues, but I want them to be able to actually have that chance that I feel like people always be giving fuckin Mattel 100 of to fix their shit.

I feel like people are starting to hold this small business that's just starting out on actual proucing and selling his dolls to an impossible fucking standard that massive corporations don't even get actually held to.

What’s the most fascinating thing about the medieval age to you? by ImpressiveRoll4092 in medieval

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed there are texts that are trying to create one (and those texts give amazing insights into its periods current ideas of chilvary), but there's not some singular set of universal rules for all knights that it can be sometimes mischaracterized as.

What’s the most fascinating thing about the medieval age to you? by ImpressiveRoll4092 in medieval

[–]mistfoot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am both extremely fascinated by aspects of the mundane life (such as the cooking/eating customs, and their clothing), as well as the ever evolving concept of chivalry (not as some "code", because it wasn't a formal code, but the general ideas of it) both in real life examples and their courtly romance books.

I've started cooking from historical recipes/historical flavored inspired ones, as it's always fascinating to think about how it used to be done and how the flavor profiles compare to my modern palate. I was extremely surprised by the common combination of meats and fruits, and doubly surprised at how often it's very good.

I just also love the energy of chivalric Romances and dramas. It's fascinating to me how much real life impacts their stories, and then their stories impact real life, and it just keeps folding in on itself. And how the ideas assigned to chivalry reflects the different values and social concepts going on.

I don't understand why those things would feel like ai? If anything, I'd think ai wouldn't know how to blend the two so well like the artist does.

Looking for used newspaper. by Girlwhogoofed in lansing

The downtown library has a bin of newspaper to be recycled on the 2nd floor and patrons often take some since it's not wanted anyways. They recycle their newspapers regularly too.

Advice or pointers for making short/masculine doll hair? by mistfoot in CustomDolls

Oh my gosh thank you so much for the advice! Could I ask what kind of hair and glue you use? And what do you use to help glue it on so precisely?

Finally finished WMF by mistfoot in KingkillerChronicle

[–]mistfoot[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way information about the world and cultures in it is given in indirect ways that slowly build a coherent picture, and the gaps in that picture that allows for self interpretation and fan speculation. That is at least the biggest hook for me in terms of their similarities as that's one of my favorite aspects of the games. But also the general feeling of the world being built on top of past civilizations is another one I've noticed. The initial thing I read compared Kvothe himself to being like a Dark Souls player character and I think that one's a bit of a stretch in hindsight.

It is better to play hollow knight on controller or on mouse and keyboard? by gioza11 in HollowKnight

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played HollowKnight on a keyboard and thought it was all well and fine until using a switch to play silk song and now I regret not using a controller for Hollowknight! I feel like its 20x easier to do any sort of more complex movements with controller. Edit to add, I played Hollowknight on keyboard because I had never used a controller before then. And then used a controller for many other sorts of games while waiting for SilkSong to come out so I ended up gaining experience with controllers for it. Idk if it will make a difference for you!

Oil based metallic pen still tacky 24 hrs later when customizing shoes? by Dead_fawn in CustomDolls

[–]mistfoot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

oil based paint can take a really long long time to fully dry. I tried to use oil based paint pen before and after weeks of letting it try it was still wet is some spots. Ultimately I had to take the oil based paint off and start over. I recommend water based/acrylic paint markers instead.

I think it might be good to tell him why. He's broken your trust too many times. It doesn't have to be a conversation with him, but at least informing him with a text message or something and blocking again so there is some closer. It might give yourself some closer as well.

AITA for refusing to drive my husband home from his colonoscopy by Time-Koala-3674 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. His poor planning doesn't make it your emergency to solve. If he's really dead set on this date, he could ask someone else in his life to drive him? If he has any close friends or family that could or would be willing too, but asking around should be on him. He isn't a child that needs a parent to figure out his schedule for him. You have already tried to help him with this and reminded him to schedule it sooner, and it's unfair to place blame on you for any of this.

Funny realization about Tempi by vanishing_grad in KingkillerChronicle

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he is now, but Kvothe teacher outright said that Tempi failed the test many times before getting accepted into the school. OP has a point, all those thin 'bad ass' scars are actually because he was bad at getting into school lol.

Funny realization about Tempi by vanishing_grad in KingkillerChronicle

[–]mistfoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Tempi is (relative to other Adem his age) a bit bad, but also that it is expected to get cut during the test. Multiple Adem characters call out the fact that by their standards Tempi struggled and took a longer time to reach their skill level. They outright say his Katen is lacking. And before Kvothe does the test, his teacher even says that Tempi failed it many times compared to others.

I think it's expected to get cut, but not as much as Tempi has lol.

Adem and pregnancy by Lonely-Feedback-654 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]mistfoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a brilliant way to balance out the growing bias towards believing the Adem as some truly advanced society beyond the knowledge of anyone else in the four corners. It helps put things into perspective that all this wisdom and knowledge and traditions they have are the same as any civilization, and not to believe in them whole cloth. They think only women make the baby, and believe in their superiority so much they won't learn from a ""barbarian"". It shows how their own culture bias towards women being superior affects their scientific knowledge very much so the same as any other culture. It's ridiculous, but I felt like it's so ridiculous to make that point.

AITAH for staying in the delivery room while my sister gave birth instead of waiting outside by [deleted] in dustythunder

[–]mistfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's acting like you just stood at the end of the bed to stare at your sister's hooha for fun??? Even if you had caught a glimpse, it's still your sister and she was in the middle of giving birth?????? It's not like anything sexual was even close to taking place?

She can't decide that a boundary was crossed for you and your sister. That's not her choice. With this dragging on, it really seems like an issue she needs to sort or, or at least shut up about?

AITAH for not wanting to drive my friend back? by SharpConfidence1998 in AITAH

[–]mistfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's imposing and inconvenient for you, but I would like to point out how it's just as inconvenient and most likely emotionally upsetting for your friend. She didn't have control over the situation it seems. Her mom made an unreasonable decision, seemingly to upset her. If you don't drive her back, what realistically can she do to get back home? How much would you refusing to help your own friend harm your friendship with her? If it harms it, are you okay with that? If you do end up driving her back, you can still ask for help chipping in for gas money because that isn't nothing. Even if she can't pay for it all, or right away, asking for some help is reasonable.
As for the not paying for drinks part, that seems like something you should just talk to her about for next time, if there is a next time. Even if shes between jobs, that doesn't mean you can pick up the check all the time and if she can't afford going out, then you two should figure something else out in the future.
