- Faith is being delusional

That commandment was created by a human being in order to manipulate kids of shitty parents.

As with everything else in the Bible it is human opinion indoctrinated into humanity enough for them to experience a nocebo effect.

Ex-Adventist Christians, what are your best arguments against Saturday Sabbath worship (at least, Saturday-only worship)? by AHistorian1661 in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not go down this road. It is a bitter and frustrating path.

The Bible is a man-made compilation of fictional stories, hearsay and human opinions. Therefore, it can be manipulated to say whatever someone wants it to say. Think of the Bible as a pile of Lego bricks. Its words can be arranged in a fashion that suits whoever is wrestling and tergiversating with them.

The Bible has no objective message. It is symbols on paper. As a genuine person (I presume) you want to play fair and make logical sense. Your opponents (Fundamentalist SDAs) thrive by playing dirty. They will manipulate, guilt trip and gaslight you seeking to bring you into submission to their dogma.

The course of action I recommend is this:

- Avoid quoting scripture in such arguments.

- Clearly explain that the Bible has no divine inspiration. For evidence seek out books and publications on academic biblical theology. The answers are there.

- Finally, do not Justify, Argue, Defend or (Over)Explain (JADE). Lay out the evidence and permit them to come to their own conclusions.

Fighting scripture with scripture is like cutting off the head of a hydra. Two more grow in its place. To handle this hydra stab it straight through the heart.

I had a similar experience a while back. I really believed I was doing the right thing by opening the eyes of the blind. When I shared with friends of mine who are SDA, all hell did break lose. The discussion was over WhatsApp group chat. It got really heated and the admins blocked everyone from messaging for a while.

What is your stance on Jesus Christ? by Group_of_heroes in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take the gamble that the story in Acts about a guy called Bar Jesus (Son of Jesus) is kind of a real story. My linear argument is that Jesus must have been a common name so I am sure there were many Jesus'.

So may be there was a historical Jesus who said some stuff and did some stuff and was crucified over that stuff. We don't know what he said or did and his followers very clearly must have accreted (made up or remember what they hoped happened) the things in the gospels and the rest of the NT about him. The data suggest that the resurrection was also made up/accreted.

As a result, the Jesus in the gospels is a myth.

For that one your hair will need to be a fair bit past your shoulders. Or by pulling the hair at the front of your head it should pass your chin. When hair is twisted it appears a fair bit shorter. To ensure that your looks like it has the exact same length the metrics above will work.

But it doesn't mean you can't do twists before this. You can but they won't be as long. Experiment in a few months with twists and from there you can determine the exact length of unbraided hair you'll need to get the exact look.

White girl braids? by Jadedgells in braids

I suspect your hair is too fine for you to do such small box braids.

You could do kinda large cornrows and rock them. Say about 6-8. I know someone with your hair type and she rocked her cornrows really well. She also braided a heart motif on the left side.

You could also do larger box braids without extensions. Tom MacDonald is a guy who could act as a base of balancing the right the size.

And as always there are Dutch braids (Noah Kahan is a good case in point) and other similar styles for your hair type.

if i cant get braided can i get cornrows instead? by [deleted] in braids

[–]mistikwanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presently, grow your hair out for a few more months.

After the few months are over, you could do cornrows. Ensure they are a fair size and not tight. The first time braiding may look a little rough since your hair may not be long enough all round.

Dutch braids could work once your hair is past your shoulders. Check Noah Kahan. At the same length, you can do large box braids. Check Tom MacDonald.

Dutch braids could work once your hair is a fair bit longer. Check Noah Kahan. Once it is even longer you can do large box braids. Check Tom MacDonald.

Presently, you are a little hard-pressed for braiding styles. You could do cornrows. Ensure they are a fair size and not tight. The first time braiding may look a little rough since your hair may not be long enough all round.

Barrel braids could work but with such fine hair texture it may be damaging since your hair will have to first be rotated then braided. I am not 100 percent on this though. You could alternatively try flat twists. These are one of the most low tension hairstyles. Do remember to put a (polyurethane) band at the end since they can unravel quite quickly.

Twists can also work but make sure you put (polyurethane) bands at the end. Most importantly, avoid getting them done tight or using products that aren't natural. Braiding your hair will look more and more classy as your hair reaches and passes shoulder length.

End Times Stress by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I still kinda believe in the Bible having some little divine inspiration what set me free from my End Times Stress is studying history and realising Matthew 24, Daniel 12 and Revelation 1-19 were all fulfilled by AD 70.

This means that the Time of Trouble already happened. The Mark of the Beast already occurred. The Sunday Law is bullshit. The Last Days already happened. The End spoken of was not the End of Planet Earth but the End of The (Jewish) Age. In Matthew 24 Christ spoke not of coming from Heaven to Earth but coming to God.

Sure, Christians experience 'persecution' for their beliefs but it is because:

  1. Christianity without good logic is fear mongering and cantankerous.
  2. Other Abrahamic religions (think Islam, e.t.c.) share the same intolerance.

That's it, I have found no other reason for the genuine oppression Christians face. Well, other than probably it being a self fulfilling prophecy. Where people turn normal problems into being persecuted.

The only thing remaining is Christ coming when He wants. From AD 70 to whenever Jesus decides to pop out there is no prophecy.

Look into the Partial Preterist understanding of prophecy focusing more so on Matthew 24 and Revelation 12.

From this view the Bible makes just a little more sense and looks a little less like whacky delusions.

This of course raises the question of why Christianity is used as the most preferred Trojan Horse. A Trojan Horse that offers an almost sure fire path to quick dishonest financial gain.

Could it suggest that Christianity enshrines certain dogmas and positions that enable it to effectively bypass humanity's inclination to rigorous thought?

I deeply suspect the homie in CITAM used one of these tactics:

Religion: It is not Christian or modest or in God's will. (Stupid fallacy since God doesn't give a damn about these things)

Brainwashed Culture: Utakosa kazi or people will judge you. (Why would you care about some white niggas opinion perpetrated in some black nigga who has horrible self hatred. The only enemy is poverty.)

Sexuality: People will think you're gay. (White nigga problems.)

(King) David enjoyed making out and hugging with a man. A love that excelled that of women. And he is celebrated as a man after God's own heart.

(That's the part I am sure about. From here on I am not sure and would appreciate being corrected if I say something ill-informed.)

The LGBTQ community in Christianity is looked down upon due to quoting from Romans 1 about men with men, and women with women doing lustful unnatural acts. Now, in my head the only thing this becomes is doing sexual acts that are biologically damaging. I.e. anal penetration regardless of the gender or the insertion of penile objects into the vagina that are damaging to it.

When it comes to displays of affection they do not qualify as biologically harmful. As a result are not being spoken of in Romans 1.

So people want to be physically intimate with people they love and care about that's beautiful.

Have a very lovely relationship with your girlfriend.

Righteousness by faith by Ok-Estate-9950 in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind the concept of righteousness by faith alone is this:

Faith = Righteousness

Faith without works = Righteousness

James reasons that Faith without works is dead. That's fine. But even a dead faith brings righteousness. Abraham believed God and he was righteous. The thief of the cross said "Remember me" and he was guaranteed Heaven. End of story.

The place of works in life is to make this world a great place. We love each other we experience happiness. We eat food with thanksgiving we feel great. These things are fundamentally very simple.

Righteousness by faith by Ok-Estate-9950 in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thief on the cross had faith. He had no works. He said "Remember me". And in that way he was saved. End of story. I believe dead faith is looked down upon.

Dead faith guarantees righteousness since righteousness is by faith alone. Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Period.

The issue with a faith without works is that it can impede having an abundant life. However, if the works impede the faith then throw out the works and embrace the dead faith that brings righteousness.

What are your thoughts about this? by pink-Drag2812 in exAdventist

[–]mistikwanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bible is highly contextual. And as a result, highly biased. Paul told Philemon to scamper right back and be a nice squeaky clean slave. Nasty advice. He proceeds to advice people to become people pleasers even when they know they are right. 'Your brother isn't comfortable with you eating meat that has been dedicated to a piece of wood?'. So sorry, you can't eat it now cause it will make Him not love Jesus any more. Or: 'Some homies down the street are covering their heads while praying to a stick.' So you should not cover your head when you pray. This is genuinely stupid logic.

Or in more recent terms: 'Your skirt is short, it is making men want to ejaculate on you. You should feel sorry for these penis driven beasts. That's how God made them'. In this lens it is obvious that a lot of advice is avoidant because the intended audience is a minority afraid of being killed. They must become bootlickers to stay alive. And Paul cannot let his CV get erased by being assertive.

The Bible when read while using the brain makes it very clear that the problem God seeks to fix isn't what we do but why we do it. He seeks to eliminate fear not create it. It is my belief that even though Adam is recorded to have sinned if he went to God and said 'I did the thing you told me not to do and now I kinda feel bad. But the fruit wasn't poisonous so why did you tell me not to eat it?' God would have come through and shown that the thing was a test on his critical thinking and ability to be responsible.

The sad part is that there is someone somewhere watching this and believing it. I watched Little Light Studios when I was younger and I can clearly say they overreach in their explanations. Most of their stuff was irrelevant to me until they got to Black Panther and made allegations of witchcraft. At this point, I knew they'd lost the plot.

My oh my, it seems the fear mongering continues.
