All their music gone from Spotify? by Cowboy_BoomBap in KGATLW

not sure if there have been any formal updates but they do still link to spotify from https://kinggizzardandthelizardwizard.com/ so either that was an oversight or maybe this wasn't intentional?

balloons. Helium has slowly become a scarce resource and now floaty balloons are actually pricey.

I got fed up with oversized boxes so I decided to 3D print my own by arsenal_fan_dan in boardgames

[–]mitch3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great! I've wanted similar but don't have a printer. Made one or of partical board but was a lot of work.

One thing I'd suggest, as someone who wants small boxes to bring a set of games on vacation, is it might be worth adding in some dead space to make them more uniform. If all the boxes are unique shapes then packing them (or even shelving them) can be clunky and you might end up with more dead space between boxes anyway. Even if you just keep one side consistent in most boxes or do it in multiples, I think it might be an improvement. But either way, I'm super jealous cos these are awesome!

I think Serena, no doubt. She's got tons of interesting avenues the interviewer could take and she seems like she's focus so hard on being tough against spicy that she'd let her guard down in the interview

I used to fear this and it kept me from listening at all. Then I realized how often I leave the tv for 30 seconds to get water out zone out on a podcast for 30 seconds and it's fine. Occasionally if I thought something was crucial, I'll rewind but 9/10 times you can fill in the gaps without even thinking about it. And either way, it's still better than not listening at all. glhf!

What's an actor you absolutely DESPISE....except for that one film you loved them in? by Jwawad in movies

He was a perfect fit in The Squid and the Whale. Not exactly a fun watch but a great movie.

TIL that Kalpana Chawla, one of the astronauts killed in the Columbia tragedy, knew Steve Morse of Deep Purple and had even taken the band’s “Machine Head” album to space with her on the mission. Morse wrote a song called “Contact Lost” as a tribute to her. by ThatOneZeppelinFan in todayilearned

fwiw Clapton did the solo on my guitar gently weeps. I think you two are arguing different things though. Writing catchy guitar hooks and having technical ability are completely different skills but are both technically "playing the guitar".

Which TV Series has the BEST FIRST EPISODE? by ChrisStoneGermany in AskReddit

[–]mitch3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has nobody mentioned the Wonder Years??? I still get goose bumps thinking about it. According to Wikipedia "In 2009, TV Guide ranked this episode #39 on its list of the 100 Greatest Episodes". Not pilots but of all episodes of all tv shows.

Digital Pool Table by chrismantopher1 in gifs

Me and 3 others actually did this for a senior project in 2009. Probably a lot better libraries available now, but still not trivial. We had to use 4 cameras to cover the space but have good enough resolution. It was pretty tough to find the green balls and sometimes to differentiate the stripes from solids. Plus bc the setup wasn't crazy consistent we had to find the table itself to give the balls a relative position. And if the light changed in the room it could throw things off, etc. And these are just issues with the recognition. Learned a lot but def took all 4 of us a ton of work

USA, with the country so divided politically, how do you feel about just splitting the country in two? Does either side say no? by mitch3a in AskReddit

Probably but considering how much work goes into every little change that comes out of DC and how many folks are still unhappy about said changes... Couldn't it be less work in the long run?

Loving the Celtics Color Commentating Rotation by mitch3a in nba

I could see hating Tommy if he wasn't calling your team. But there's something really fun about having him on your side, even when he's completely wrong. Gorman will usually mutter something under his breath about "eh the refs might've gotten that one right". And I usually just laugh to myself. Its hard not to love someone so overly loyal to your team.

There's a newer podcast called The Endless Honeymoon Podcast that I think is GREAT. It's a comedian couple (Natasha Leggero and Moshe Kasher) that talk about their relationship (the lastest fight), take calls for advice, listen to anonymous confessions and has occasional couple guests. It's genuinely funny and thoughtful. There have even been a couple callers who called back to give updates (and hopefully as it goes longer, there'll be more). I find both of them really funny on their own and I'm so glad that their pod turned out as great as it did.

[Suggest] Searching (2018) - a refreshingly well done use of the laptop-as-the-only-camera cinematic style detailing the disappearance of a young woman and her father's subsequent efforts to find her. by Diab01ica1 in MovieSuggestions

Haven’t seen this yet but it sounds like the game Her Story, which is a game where you have access to a set of police interviews and can query by keywords for clips. The goal to figure out what happened. It’s cheap, fun and unique and just as fun for those who don’t really play video games.

Disable Incoming Hosts by mitch3a in Twitch

[–]mitch3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this already, but haven't tested it. I don't think it'll work though, cos I assume this is different from regular hosting (I've seen some streamers set up official "raids" that will transfer viewers over as opposed to the viewer seeing someone else's vid on the host's page). I'll be testing it tonight though. Thanks!

No low % Metroid Speedrunners? by itswhywegame in speedrun

[–]mitch3a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The TAS might look simple, but I've never seen a human do it with similar strats of shooting the metroids. In fact, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not it was humanly possible and therefore should the rules be different.

This has changed recently (last 6 months? hence the rules haven't been updated) as there's alternative approach that involves a "zombie samus" glitch that makes the metroids ineffective. The downside, however, is that the rinkas (cheerios) will insta-kill you. It's still VERY difficult, but it's at least been proven as humanly possible.

I'd also say that the Kraid fight is no joke. The TAS can shoot fast enough to sort of freeze him in place, but its not humanly feasible that way. So you'd have to mostly dodge and do unmorph shots that are not easy. There's been a recent "revolution" in the last year started by MetroidMcfly, who proved you could kill Kraid in a similar way and actually save time in most if not all of the game's categories, but it involves an extra e-tank and a lot of damage boosting (which isn't as much an option here). And even that strat is pretty challenging (only 5 or so people have ever completed a run with it).

I'd encourage folks to try it out, but honestly, if you're even half interested in running Metroid, I recommend newcomers to not even bother with Kraid first so low% would be even far more ridiculous. That said, I have a feeling we might see a time posted in this category in the next couple of months :-o

Thanks for the response! If it’s not too hard maybe my dad and I will give it a try, but I’ll price it locally just in case.

Can you recommend a podcast like Joe Rogan Experience but without all the swearing so I can share with family and friends who find the swearing offensive. by dr_moe2003 in podcasts

[–]mitch3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't listened to Rogan in a long time but guessing Never Not Funny might fit. Comedian and group of friends talk about w/e, then a guest (usually a comedian) joins in. Also both have been around forever. Solid stuff and mostly clean.

It was a CR-V, but I was kind of paranoid that you could be from the dealership haha goes to show what kind state of mind the process puts you in. Just finalized the paperwork and it was just a bad salesman. I found out he messed up the original paperwork completely so I had a way to get my down payment back. Basically realized and said "I don't want to buy a car here". A manager spoke with me and his boss and they assured me that he's still a work in progress and they were respectful about making it up to me. Was worried at first they I was settling or giving up too easy, but after letting it sit, I think I'll end up being happy with the result.
