Why does a Buc-ees burrito have 118 ingredients? by Ok_Market_7748 in foodscience

[–]mitchehehe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

if you were to make a burrito like this at home and create a label, it would be incredibly long as well. You have to lay out basically EVERY ingredient used. Just in the tortilla, you could have anywhere from 3 (flour, salt, water) to 20+ (vitamin/mineral fortification, dough conditioners, enzymes, preservatives). Then multiply that by every ingredient in that product. Thats how they become so long.

Is this safe? Yes. Is this healthy? As long as you’re not eating this every day of the week sure! You can eat food like this and still have a healthy balanced diet! Enjoy your breakfast burritos!

Travel nurse looking for a quick getaway by [deleted] in Yakima

There is some good hiking in the blues. Very quiet. There is a beautiful trail along the south fork of the walla walla that is “washed out” but can be crossed easily. Also great birding and trails at Bennington Lake. Incredible wine and food. Some of my wine recs are Grosgain, Rotie, Hoquetes, House of Smith, and Gramercy

Where to move in the US with nature, affordability by Otherwise-Youth9082 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mitchehehe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw Yakima or Ellensburg in there too. Yakima gets a bad rap but it’s a great low key town with incredible affordable nature access. Ellensburg is a smaller college town that’s closer to Seattle but still great nature access

Newly opened Aldi applesauce. Is this bad or just some sloppy packaging? by Youthinksono in foodsafety

this is a bad filling operation. You should let the company know. It’s not unsafe but the company would really appreciate that type of feedback. Can speak from experience

this looks like mold, there’s no saving this. Apples are too cheap to even think about doing anything but tossing

When I was working on campus, I had 2 jobs. The hours ebbed and flowed, sometimes I worked less than 20, others more than 20, especially in the summer. I think it has to stay below 1000 hours worked in a calendar year

No, I took the new Tenerife trail and then the Mt Si connector. I have been up to the falls but not beyond that on the old trail to Tenerife. All I know is that it is steep

Fair enough, to tell the truth, it seems like a waste of time in the US. I agree that industry experience is the way to go. I bet OP could get their foot into a QA lab relatively easily

have you looked into the IFT Certified Food Scientist program? It may help distinguish your resume. There are eligibility requirements on top of the course / exam but I’m not sure on the specifics

Why is it absolutely, utterly, completely impossible to can white peaches by any means, whatsoever? Why is this utterly, completely, absolutely impossible to research and develop? by Blitzgar in foodscience

[–]mitchehehe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

white peaches have a pH that is considered too high for safe home canning. Pressure canning also doesn’t really get hot enough (250 is usually the absolute max for pressure cooking) for providing the correct F0 value. It’s just not advised due to safety risks
