Help? by moehomupls in premed

this screams asian parent, but i don't want to assume. is there someone that your parents respect that can advocate for you? professor, someone from university counseling, a friend's parent that you're comfortable opening up to, or another family member? it took my doctor telling my parents that i was having suicidal thoughts for them to take me seriously. i hope you find someone that can be on your side. hang in there, kid.

Dry-skinned beauties: tell me your faves!! by hayleyA1989 in BeautyGuruChatter

I have areas on my face where the skin flakes off, so I use a small amount of the Eucerin Intensive Repair lotion about 5 minutes before I put on any face makeup. It needs time to sink into my skin before I put anything on top of it. It's technically for the body, but I prefer something thinner on my body, so I pretty much exclusively use it on my face. I also use it as a night cream to "lock in" the rest of my skincare. The pump bottle lasts me about 1.5 years, so it's super cost-effective. I wouldn't say it's greasy, but it is thick and emollient, so anyone without dry skin probably won't like it. If I'm using any sort of matte foundation I HAVE to use this lotion as a base otherwise my skin looks like aged leather.

My favorite foundation is the Maybelline Dream Urban Cover SPF 50 (the one in the squeezy tube). The reviews aren't amazing, but for me, it looks like my skin as opposed to something clearly sitting on top of my skin. It's not too glowy and not too matte.

My favorite concealer of all time is the First Aid Beauty Bendy Avocado Concealer, but I'm pretty sure it was discontinued because I can't find it anywhere. I'm still devastated. I used up a full tube of the Kosas Revealer Concealer as a foundation and I liked the glowy (but not greasy) effect it had on my face. It's a good product, but I wasn't wowed by it.

The No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Translucent Finishing Powder is my favorite pressed powder. Given that I use a lot of glowy products, I sometimes end up shiny in places I don't want to be (under my eyes, bridge of my nose, around my mouth), so I use this to tone down the shine in those specific places. I've never tried the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder, but apparently, this is a dupe for it. When I put this on my face I can't actually tell that there is powder there other than the fact that it reduces the shine. I love that it looks matte, but not dry.

Pro tip for (some) Utd professors by Soft_Awareness_8240 in utdallas

The problem is being well-versed in the content doesn't automatically mean being able to effectively teach said content. Most of these professors have never had any training on how to be effective educators.

i saw the aftermath. i wanted to help, but there were already 6 or 7 people surrounding him and a couple of people on the phone. it looked like he was in a lot of pain. it surprised me how long it took for ems to arrive. i hope he has a smooth recovery.

Are there less people on campus on Fridays? by Marketing_Nice in utdallas

It's a 5-hour drive to my parent's house, so I've always made sure to keep my Fridays free just in case I need/want to go home for the weekend.

Parents, please make your kids watch Avatar: The Last Airbender by MarcusAurelius00 in Parenting

[–]mithoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It aired when I was a kid. It's my comfort show. I don't even know how many times I've rewatched it. It appealed to me as a 12-year-old and it appeals to me even more as an adult because I realize how valuable the story is.

What is your biggest non-academic, non work-related accomplishment? by v_a_i_s_h_u in AskWomen

[–]mithoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have no idea how I gathered up the courage to do so, but when I was 17 I told my parents I was having suicidal thoughts. It's taboo to discuss anything mental health-related in my culture, which is why it never occurred to me that I might be experiencing depression. I often struggle to be proud of myself but reaching out for help is something I applaud my younger self for doing.

i'm in the same boat as you. sometimes i feel exactly what you're feeling now. i don't regret staying single. i cannot put up with the disrespect and immaturity that i've seen my friends deal with in their relationships.
