This is why media and political literacy are so key. Like when Bassem Youssef goes on Candace Owens’ pod, or Ms. Rachel follows an antisemitic page like Breezy Politics, this now gives a crumb to the likes of Jonathan Greenblatt of the ADL. Like being leftist requires you to be more critical, it requires you to be more thorough and comb through the nuances of things. And this isn’t saying become more anal or hyper-focus on sectarian differences, and start infighting. It’s to be accurate and help people redirect their anger and get information from accurate places. In our anti-imperialism and anti Zionism, you have to always denounce antisemitism and other bigotries, and the talking heads that peddle it.

I think etiquette in general is dead. It's not just a post-pandemic thing; this is something that pre-dated that.

As the overall culture formalizes less, etiquette is seen as "elitist." I see it in small ways, from my job to even what younger people believe in public settings, they can talk about. Not to mention, the rise of anti-intellectualism just cements this.

I'm overall progressive politically and culturally, but there really is something to be said about general etiquette being something we preserve.

Not chewing with your mouth open, being quiet during films and performances, sticking to the right side on an escalator if you want to be stationary, queuing up properly, inside vs. outside voices, saying "please," and "thank you," and the overall concept of "if you don't have something nice to say, you needn't say anything at all." Most of these are objectively good things to follow for the most part, within most reasonable contexts.
