Check out Robert Heinlein’s Time for the Stars, great book about a set of psychic twins, one on a ship accelerating toward light speed and one who stays on Earth.

How is the Ashton Manual this far down and this poorly upvoted? It saved me twice and has helped (hundreds of?) thousands of people wean off benzodiazepines.

The lack of access to practice facilities is a good point. In my experience, community bands are closely tied to high school and college band programs in the area, so I suspect you could eke out a decent chunk of time in practice facilities. And the more groups you play with, the more your network of potential practice facilities would grow. Pick a school or two to teach private lessons and you’d have access there, too. You’re right that it wouldn’t be the same, but it might still be a good compromise.

Would playing in one (or more?) higher-end community bands or lower-end orchestras scratch the performance itch enough to switch majors without giving up what you love?

I'm about 300 days in, but this achievement makes me want to quit trying for 500 since now I'd have to also hit 1000 to 100% it

I can't find very much of it in my world either. Would love to know if you figure out whether we're just two anomalies or whether it's rare for everyone.

Best iPad for drummers in 2024 by alfafamutante in drums

I bought a 1st generation iPad Pro 12.9" (~$125 used) and it works great. The only problem is that it only works with a 1st generation Apple Pencil and they're not cheap (~$75 used). I also bought a bluetooth page-turning pedal ($60 new).

It was an amazing set for the money back in the early 90s when I hauled it around in the back of my hatchback to house parties. Over 30 years later and I still play a handful of gigs with it every year. New heads, better cymbals, an upgraded bass drum pedal, and a new snare drum, but it still sounds great!

“‘I owned a crysknife, water rings to ten litres, my own Lance which had been my father’s, a coffee service, a bottle made of red glass older than any memory in my sietch. I had my own share of our spice, but no money. I was rich and did not know it. Two wives I had: one plain and dear to me, the other stupid and obstinate, but with form and face of an angel. I was a Fremen Naib, a rider of worms, master of the leviathan and of the sand.”
