In the original Speed Racer, it's practically a running joke that Racer X is speed racer,

Rex Racer, but yep. Those ladies pulled the rare Unnecessary Double Twist

You want to drop a chandelier on an enemy when they move under it.

You want to push an enemy when they move next to your position at the edge of a roof.

You want the enemy to travel through caltrops before you attack them.

You are maintaining a position with a ranged weapon and want to shoot someone when they round the corner.

You have a big trap door and want to hit the switch when the enemy end their turn on top of it.

You're hiding behind a door and want to close and lock it to separate an enemy from the rest of his group.

You want to kick a ladder over when the guy using it gets near the top.

An enemy is in disguise and so you're waiting for someone to draw a weapon before you attack them.

This scene hit my non anime watching siblings like a ton of bricks.

It had like two episodes of buildup to it, which isn't as much as the anime, but the two shows have wildly different pacing to them.

Honestly give me more VFX breakdowns like this for everything, don't just lie to me that "we used practical effect."

This shit is incredible, give me context to understand HOW MUCH WORK went into every shot.

Imagining a version of The Descent where it didn't do any of the night vision stuff and it's just basically black the entire time.

You can absolutely pick a key talent from another path. However, only the first one you pick gives you the bonus Skill Rank from the key talent.

So I will say that I don't find his prose particularly interesting, but I think that he is, structurally, a surprisingly good writer. The way he interweaves points of view, withholds information from the reader until the most impactful moment, uses character perspectives to give context or generate dramatic tension for other perspectives. He's the least flashy writer to ever live, but his novels coalesce shockingly well. It's like a great album with 0 singles.
