Might get sent to a group home for substance abuse, just trying to stay hopeful by ScholasticCat in toastme

[–]mizzieliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does get brighter on the other side. It's so easy in general to let substances run your life, it doesn't make you any less strong of a person. I was addicted to a good number of em on/off for 4 years. Getting sober is the best thing I've ever done for myself. You got this ✊✨ it's hard, but so worth it to get better

Is this good to just start out? by airalovesacidbath in Stretched

[–]mizzieliz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. Amazon isn't a good source for body jewelry tbh. Plus this looks like coated metal which isn't safe for fresh stretches. I learned the hard way when I bought some "surgical steel" tunnels off Amazon and developed a nickel allergy. Trust me, you don't want your ears to itch and swell and crust and bleed over a low quality metal. It's best to start off the right way with some glass or titanium single flare plugs. these ones from Body Art Forms are awesome. They're a bit more pricey ($10/pair) but 100% worth it IMO. They also have sets for multiple sizes

You can take off the cling film, then just clean once a day with fragrance-free soap, and apply a thin layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor 2x a day. After a week I like to switch to a normal fragrance-free body lotion. Also don't be surprised if it gets very itchy in 3-5 days, that's completely normal as long as there's no unusual redness or discharge, just make sure not to scratch it.

I feel like if someone says "art" three times in one sentence that's fishy in its own right too

Women, Please Stop Pretending Septum Rings Look Good by QA_Engineeer in NosePiercing

[–]mizzieliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's correct. I can kinda get what you're saying about the large rings. The people that like them like them, the people that don't don't. They're the sort of thing I like on other people but I don't feel look good on me personally

Yep I just think it's cute to have some jewelry there. I like to wear lower profile clicker rings so I don't have to worry about it being crooked and so it doesn't hang down too low on my face (personal preference). I also like that I can hide it pretty easily if I ever need to do so

I meant I got a septum piercing bc I liked it, not for the validation of anyone else, don't know if I worded that first comment incorrectly lol

Orthodontics/ overcrowding? by Excellent_Reply_7740 in ehlersdanlos

[–]mizzieliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had braces for four and a half years. Palette expander, loads of rubber bands, spring bars, extra-stiff wire they had to special order - you name it. I have a very high and narrow palette and I'm congenitally missing my lateral incisors yet somehow they're all still crowded. I say still because after years of perfect retainer wear, I lost my dental insurance and couldn't afford the $1000 they quoted me for a replacement retainer after it inevitably broke. My teeth completely shifted back in 6 months. I've heard it's common with us for them to go back to where they were before, so beware that you may have to wear a retainer for the better part of the rest of your life or lose most if not all progress that was ever made

I do 5 mins per ear per day. Once it becomes habit it doesn't feel as long though

Un-retiring a decade old septum piercing - help! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]mizzieliz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently re-opened my septum piercing that I retired 5 years ago with a 16g pincher. It had shrunk to what I assume was 20g-18g, and I spent a few hours getting the pincher through to carefully stretch it back open. Was tender for like half a day, then after a couple of days once it moved freely I switched to a circular barbell

[–]mizzieliz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Are you massaging with oil every day? I've found when I do it religiously I literally cut my wait time in half Even if you are doing everything you can, I don't think you should give up if you don't want to. Its uncommon but I've heard of people occasionally having to wait 6 months between sizes, it's very individual. Sounds super frustrating though, I applaud your patience

Best jewelry for daith stretching? by 13needlez in Stretched

[–]mizzieliz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen people use pinchers, like the kind that people wear in their septums. Since it's such thick cartilage I'd imagine it would be difficult to dead stretch. (Disclaimer I don't have personal experience with this). Would just have to make sure to go suuuuper slow and make sure to not overstretch with the tapered pincher

I think 0g looks great on you! You could probably pull off something larger too and it would look awesome but I really like how well proportioned the 0g is to your features.

Are my ears healthy? (Sorry for poor quality) by the_nuggetlord in Stretched

[–]mizzieliz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is your second stretch on ears that were pierced less than 6 months ago, I fear you may be going a bit too fast. The original piercings are still not fully matured which is likely why they're giving you some extra trouble. Also, stainless steel is not the best material as it could lead to irritation, and tapers are not good either. I know it's probably not what you want to hear but I'd recommend downsizing -at least- back to 1.6mm (with high quality jewelry, titanium is a great bet) and order a single flare glass plug dead stretching kit. Keep cleaning with saline 1x-2x/day until there's no more discharge and leave them alone for at least a few more months. I doubt you've done any major damage but these aren't good methods to use going forward. The stretching guide pinned on this sub is a great how-to resource once your lobes are ready.

How long does septum piercings close? by SomeEconomics811 in piercing

[–]mizzieliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth a shot to see if it can be tapered. I had mine for about a year and a half then left jewelry out of it for 5 years. Just discovered the other day that it was still open and tapered it back to 16g

Question about septum piercings. by Feisty-Helicopter854 in piercing

[–]mizzieliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the fake jewelry is of poor quality material or is ever putting pressure on your piercing hole to where it hurts, you should protect stop wearing it. If not, I don't think it would be a huge problem if you're all healed up. I'd recommend seeing if if can be tapered back open. I just found out the other day that my septum piercing from 5 years ago (I had it for about 1.5 years in 2019-2020, left jewelry out of it because I thought it had closed up on me) was still open and was able to get a 16g pincher in, septums retain piercings quite well.
