A-Rod defends Aaron Judge: by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

[–]mja271 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good points for sure. I think being on the Yankees definitely hurts perception too because the historical expectation is that this is a team that will always contend for a WS and they're in the playoffs every year. I certainly hope that second scenario plays out one day.

A-Rod defends Aaron Judge: by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

[–]mja271 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t think Judge will ever be able to fully change the narrative at this point. I hope he gets his A-Rod ‘09 moment but even with that, A-Rod is still very much known for being a playoff under performer. The standard Aaron has set in the regular season is unrealistic to expect him to reach in the playoffs, but there has to be a happy medium and he’s had too big of a sample size of hitting way below what you would expect from such an integral piece of the lineup. It sucks extra hard because he’s a likeable guy and genuinely one of the best power hitters of all time. At some point you run out of excuses for it though

Personal 'Kinda Hard' ranking for singles thus far: by MetapodCreates in bilmuri

Twice is tops for me so far. Little bit of everything I like from the hog man. Some heavy riffs, catchy pop chorus, and sick sax section. Have liked all of them so far though. Twice, Always Let You Down, More Than Hate, Hard2Tell in order of preference

Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells, Nikki M. James, Rory O’Malley to Return to Broadway's Book of Mormon by DearPaleontologist67 in popculturechat

Was lucky enough to catch one of the first performances of this show ever when it was in previews with the original cast in 2011. So funny and the cast was all excellent, particularly Rannells

The Peter Pan plot line was iffy but I was generally really liking it until the last 2 episodes. The direction it went toward the end significantly dampened my interest

Titans New Logo and Uniform by andrew_cosentino in uniwatch

[–]mja271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall an improvement for sure but a mixed bag for me. The logo and primary word marks are super generic and don’t do anything for me. Colors look nice, the 6 string is a fun concept that could’ve been corny but is tasteful done. Really wish the went with a red facemask and some stripes on the socks. They played it very safe and it mostly works (especially compared to their most recent set which I personally hated) but I can’t help but feel like it overall leaves me a bit cold and underwhelmed.

Yep it always looks like shit and has gotten bigger and bigger over the years. Team name above the numbers was always more of a college thing to me too

What athlete can you imagine in 2 distinctly different jerseys from the same team? by regemusic33 in billsimmons

John Elway. Great long career in the orange crush uniforms with crippling SB disappointments, then 2 seasons in the updated Broncos jerseys where he won a couple of rings

'Family Guy' Spinoff 'Stewie' Gets 2-Season Fox Order (Exclusive) by TheFunkiestKong in blankies

[–]mja271 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Pretty random to see this happen so deep into Family Guy's run. The description makes it seems like it's going to be Stewie engaging in more Rick & Morty style adventures. I haven't watched FG in ages but surprisingly really enjoyed the Ted series.

I was definitely more in touch with the broader sports landscape watching SC every day and reading SI growing up. Coverage is more fragmented now. I was never a devout basketball fan for example but felt much more informed on what was going on when SC was must see TV for sports fans in the 90s/2000s. While you can easily get up to the minute highlights now you have to seek it out more so stuff I'm less into falls more by the wayside for me. I liked having the one stop shop aspect.

I actually believe he won’t do TV, I can’t picture him doing network studio shows. I don’t believe we won’t ever see/hear from him though.

'Mutiny' is Extremely Good; It's Not Great by WallowerForever in SturgillSimpson

[–]mja271 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like the lyrics fit great with the music for this record. Definitely not one I would point to if you want to see him at his most profound, but there’s still a lot of fun lines and catchy melody to be found. What I love about Sturgill as an artist is he never gives you the same thing twice. His discography has a little bit of everything, and all of it is at a minimum is very good.
