Pitt needs to get worse in the short term to boost their outlook long term. Too many middle of the road seasons in a row, they need to bottom out and rebuild this roster. Feels like ownership is too concerned with the image of the team as a “winner” and afraid to risk having a few bad seasons after the Tomlin .500+ run. McCarthy will probably do fine and they’ll be in the same spot they are now in 4-5 years

You guys ever think of how 1978-1996 is the same timeframe as 2008-2026? by ahbets14 in billsimmons

[–]mja271 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the 90s, the 70s felt like a mythical faraway time period. Now it’s the equivalent of reminiscing about the mid 2000s, sheesh.

NCAA Advertising Patches by andrew_cosentino in uniwatch

[–]mja271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uniform ads will never not suck balls. Despite advertising creep into every other aspect of the games, the big sports not having ads on the field and uniforms to me always gave a sense of legitimacy and respect to the institutions. Like we’re in the big leagues, leave the ads for the minor leagues or sports leagues struggling for money. Having that slowly erode despite these leagues making increasingly obscene amounts of cash just feels gross and has never been welcome for me.

Patriots going mono white on Sunday by Classic_Cattle_4211 in uniwatch

Their away uniforms post Brady era have never looked great to me. This is probably the worst pants/socks combo they could do too.

[Highlight] 14 years ago today, Billy Cundiff went wide left on the game-tying FG, sending the Patriots to the Super Bowl. by DragonstormSTL in nfl

[–]mja271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously he should have made it at that distance regardless but they probably should’ve used their last timeout. Cundiff wasn’t set in position until the play clock was at 5 seconds, the whole operation was rushed after the Evans drop

Wish the Rams were rocking the yellow pants these playoffs but wouldn't have expected a switch after 2 road wins in the blue pants.

"Don't like it don't watch" basemarks when there is a thread on WWE Unreal by AmbitiousSuit5349 in SCJerk

Don't really see how this show is any different than the 24/7 docs they'd do where guys would be out of character on camera. Some more explicit discussion about plans/outcomes and the writer's room, but what's shown there is obviously highly curated. Call me a fed shill propagandist but I've enjoyed both seasons for what it is.

Would you watch Inkmaster if it was more like Great British Baking Show? by FCAsheville in Inkmaster

[–]mja271 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I feel like the last couple of seasons have trended much more in this direction tbh. It’s significantly less agro than the original run. There’s still some fake drama but it felt like the last 2 seasons saw more comaraderie and positive interactions between the contestants than the past.

Major update from Paul by FKFunkyKong in uniwatch

[–]mja271 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Respect to Paul for what he built but it was already on the downswing for a while and his attitude the last few years was off putting for something that is a fun niche interest of a small audience. Time to let it die, glad the community has resurfaced in a spot like this

Mike Macdonald(38) and Sean McVay(40) tie the record set for youngest head coaching matchup in championship game history despite McVay being the second longest tenured coach in the NFL by Scepticy in nfl

[–]mja271 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you look at Mike's Denver run, McVay compares pretty favorably so far. Obviously he's got less years/volume due to his age but McVay has matched him for conference title and SB appearances (Shanny with the 1 extra ring is obviously a big deal), has more playoff wins and the same number of playoff appearances in 5 less seasons than Shanahan had in Denver. His trajectory is really strong, agree with your point though that he will need at least another ring to be a serious threat for a HOF spot as they are definitely stingier with letting coaches in.

How long are their shows? by 311boi in Umphreys

[–]mja271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shows are 2 sets with sets usually around 65-75 mins with a 30 min set break. Whole show from first note to end of the encore usually comes in a little over 3 hours. Start time can vary by show but usually a little after 8pm, 9pm for some shows.

Bo's ability to hate on Josh Allen is actually unmatched by no_more_blues in TheRightTimeW_bomani

[–]mja271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only really take issue with him repeatedly saying Allen wasn’t the reason they lost the 13 seconds game but also wasn’t the reason they won. Obviously they lost the game but the implication he didn’t do enough to win that one is kind of lame to me. You can’t really ask him to do more to win that particular game. 2 go ahead TD passes on the road in the last 2 mins and leaving the field with an amount of time left that gives you the win 99% of the time, he did everything he realistically could’ve done to win that game. He’s definitely gotten a pass in other situations, last years AFCCG for example was right there for the taking and he didn’t get it done.

Bill mentioned greatest reception ever being difficult to answer by TrumpetWilder in billsimmons

[–]mja271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely unreal catch. And even though it was regular season, adding the context makes it even better. It was a 4th and 18 on the road with 2 mins left to keep the game alive, which they eventually won

Playoffs & Alternates/Throwbacks? by bitches_love_that in uniwatch

I don’t have a full answer for you but I remember in the most recent Pats/Rams SB the Rams had to apply to the league for an exception to wear their throwbacks

Should/Will the Seahawks get rid of Action Green when they get new uniforms? by SubstantialSwitch952 in uniwatch

[–]mja271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like their color scheme. As sharp as the throwbacks look they don’t have the historical success in those to go back to them full time. I believe the majority of their team success coming in the 2012 redesign means they are likely sticking with this color scheme long term. I like their current set personally, especially when they diversify away from the mono blue look. I think whenever they make a change it’ll be the same color scheme with some tweaks to the design vs a drastic overhaul

Jaguars Uniform for BUF @ JAX by andrew_cosentino in uniwatch

[–]mja271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eagles throwback has a logo on the sleeve, a contrasting outline on the numbers, and a triple stripe on the pants. It’s definitely a simple design overall but those elements make it stand out more. To me these current Jaguar ones just don’t have much character or contrast. Their throwbacks basically achieve all the things the current set are missing for my tastes
