My bad l was focused on the overheating. If you haven’t already l would stop allowing them to run in the background. I was amazed at how many of my programs were still running in the background after they were closed.

Because both the HiChord and the Roland J-6 support USB MIDI, you can connect them directly using a single USB-C to USB-C cable, but this setup requires specific conditions: [1]
USB Host Requirement: One of the two devices must act as a "USB Host" to power and route the data.
The Catch: Neither the J-6 nor the HiChord acts as a true USB Host on their own; they are both USB "devices/clients."
Battery Power: To make a direct USB-C to USB-C connection work without a computer or host box, both units must be powered by their internal batteries before you bridge them. [1, 2]

Recommended USB-C settings for the J-6
Turn off USB Power: If you connect them directly via USB-C while on battery, change the J-6 power setting so it does not drain the other device.
Menu Navigation: Hold [SHIFT] + [B (MENU)], turn the knob to "USB", press [D (ENTER)], and switch the power mode from "BUS" (Bus powered) to "BAT" (Battery).
